After Knock showed how to do multi channel reason sequencing on the mac, I had to figure it out for PC.
It’s pretty much the same as I’ve done in the past, except now we have a way to get the sounds back in Maschine via the rewire plugin.
This process for me is pretty much the exact same way I use external modules and synths.
I used to use loopbe1 for this type of thing, but it jacked me up when I installed it on my desktop a while ago so I needed something else.
I found it, download it here: http://copperlan.org/ It’s a virtual midi cable/system for PC and MAC

LOOOOVE IT !!! I knew you would come up with a way. This is perfect. Both Mac and PC covered now ! The workflow is crazy.
thanks for reminding me about it man, I didn’t even think about it since I stopped using loopbe, but this workflow is exactly how I work with external modules, it’s perfect…now…do I buy Reason 5 or not….? lol
Man..I am glad i upgraded to Reason 5. You should get it. With the combo of maschine and Reason its crazy power (in my humble opinion)
Stop tempting me knock! lol
Great for the PC user! You definitely need to do the external modules. I’ve been wanting see that forever! Good job. Peace.
Cool Vid. Nice, straightforward and elegant solution.
Yeah yall, I like this new virtual midi solution, much better than loopbe was, really good for the workflow. I was using virtual midi before, but with no vst support it wasn’t as fun, now with vst support this rewire plugin opens the door up a lil bit 🙂
I like the vid bro. I have a question for you in reference to Rewire VST and Maschine. If I were to use Reason 5 with Maschine is it possible to drag & drop the midi from Maschine that is controlling the sounds in Reason and convert those sounds to audio without having to sample each track? Or would that not work because you are going through the Rewire VST to the the Virtual Midi? I never messed with using Rewire much but in Studio One I know I can bounce Reason instrument tracks to audio quickly just wondering if… Read more »
Well, the thing is, Maschine isn’t multitimbral, so all the audio is coming through the rewire input. So drag and drop doesn’t work the same as it would in studio one where you have multi channels where midi = a specific audio channel. And if you’re doing it this way, it really has nothing to drag/drop. Since the rewire vst is just acting as an audio input, the midi data isn’t on the same track as the audio, all audio comes through the vst but the midi data is coming from the other channels. so if we had multi channel… Read more »
I see. Thanks for the quick response bro.
no problem fam
cool
glad you liked it fam
Thanks for that, I am loving the addition of Reason to my Maschine arsenal. Since watching this vid I am thinking I would like to track out some older Reason songs to Maschine. Would the sync record, be suited to this or would you do it some other way?
No doubt, you could use synch record if you wish, just remember the RewireVST only has one output, so you’d have to solo each track you wanted to have them as separate waves in Maschine, but it would work.
I just purchased Reason yesterday because of this integration lol.
Cant wait to get home now and have a go. Thanks for the schooling its much appreciated.
no doubt fam, lemme know if you have any issues.
hey i don’t know if any one else has this problem, but i can’t open reason or maschine at the same tym with the midi working…
either one works alone with the midi but not at the same tym, I was gonna uninstall reason, but thought i’d ask first.
are you using the rewire vst? and you only need the midi output turned on in maschine, not the input, if you have the input on in Maschine then it won’t work since it will be in use
hold up let me run dat…!
Yeah im doing it by the vid, so i got wht u got, and that fix the problem. The midi in was on…Thk yo… let me finsh with the vids next steps i’ll hola fo sho…..
aight, glad you got it fam
HAd to take a quick break to thk u Joe. Blessing many many blessing famz……!
Now i got to see what reason got for me, i’ve had this program for like a month and a half and have never used it. But now i can see it’s gonna be a bigg part of every track i make. I’m even going back to track number 1 cause i got 16 of them now, starting today and seeing if i can put that touch in thats missing in them all.
Nuff luv n respect…….!
dope fam, that’s whasup!!
hey how u get that piano sound out.?
what piano sound? make sure microsoft gm midi synth isn’t turned on in your midi out settings for maschine
That was it too Joe… way to go famz, luv the hook up rewire n copperland…..
word, glad you got it!
Nice. It’ll save me a lot of trial and error, thanks.
No doubt fam
You saved years of my life with this! But the biggest thing is that i don’t want to sacrifice the crazy features of Maschine just so that I can integrate reason/record (a must!). Like what about the step sequencer of Maschine controlling sounds in Kong? How would you change sounds and build up the beat for instance?
I am a newbie and any help is welcomed . thanks
all of your sequencing is still done in Maschine so you can use all of it’s sequencer settings.
I figured. Thanks man. But would you need to mess with the controller editor in order to allow Maschine to switch sounds when using the step sequencer? What I meant is that when using reason through Rewire, and I want to use the step sequencer on the Maschine hardware, the lights start running across as they should. The prob is that it only lets me program one sound on say pad 1. Then suppose you want to throw on snares, which requires a switching pads. Would controller editor be the solution. I’ve been trying for days! Guide me o knowlegeable… Read more »
lol, if you want to switch, you have to change the “base key” to match the pad you want to input on, but it’s not as clean as having different sounds on each pad because it’s hard to overlap sounds.
Just did a video for ya man, check it out!
https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-and-kong-pt-2-individual-pads-in-maschine-mapped-to-pads-in-kong
That probably shouldve been a PM…
nope, this is the right spot fam!
A video???? For me???? Man I’m leaving work early to go check it out! For real, if I can’t, then i’ll quit, it’s that important! lol….good looking out, i’ll check it out an get back at you
No doubt, hope it helps man.
Thanks for the video joe.
You got it bro!
Ok I know this ones old but let me get this straight, U use Jbridge cause you are bringing 32 bit Reason into 64 bit Maschine and you also need rewire vst FOR SURE. Copperlan is for bringing in multiple Reason instruments into Maschine but do you need to sample the Reason instruments onto other channels in the group or can you just simply press record and they will be in the scene you recorded in. Sorry for the long question 🙂
Not old :), and yes, copperlan is only midi, rewire vst lets me get the audio into maschine. Of course, I could resample with my soundcard since it supports stereo/loopback recording but the rewire is dedicated specifically to Reason or whatever rewire slave I’m using.
So when exporting your track you would have Reason turned on in rewire vst mode while exporting to get its sounds from Reason onto your finished track or you can resample onto other channels in Maschine and have reason off while exporting? You have both options? Not sure about the loopback thing you may have mentioned it in a tutorial I think can’t remember.
Thanks SJ
I just sample Reason sounds onto pads as I go
I have everything mapped in Reason and working, but when I go to use the samples all of them have different BPM.
What samples are you speaking of? Maschine doesn’t have timestretching.
Very Nice.. Thank You
No problem, glad you found it useful
Just downloaded the Copplan and everything is on point. The info you give is priceless bro. Good looking.
dope fam, it’s a nice tool for sure!
I have Reason 4 but when I try to open up Reason using the Rewire VST there isn’t an option in the plug ins drop down menu in Maschine showing Rewire. Do I have to purchase Rewire separate or is there a step I’m have overlooked?
Rewire VST is an extra plugin, it’s not default in Maschine, http://www.energy-xt.com/index.php?id=0115
on MAC you can use Maschine’s virtual midi output, you don’t need copperlan.
Oh ya, by the way…I’m using a Macbook Pro. Not sure if I should download that Copplan for routing purposes or being that I’m using a Mac I don’t need to use Copplan. Please help! Thanks!
I purchased and downloaded the Rewire VST and followed the install instructions but the Rewire Plug In doesn’t show up on my Plug In drop down menu inside Maschine. I went into the preferences and re-scanned for new Plug Ins but that didn’t work either. Not sure if there is another step involved in this process that I have misses.
FYI…..When I go into the Preferences…Plugins…..32 Bit, the Rewire VST shows up on there but not under the Plugins…..Manager list. I’ve been messing with this for over two days now and it has my head spinning. I just can’t seem to get in to work properly. Please help! Thanks!
You are running maschine in 64 bit mode, rewire vst is a 32 bit plugin, you need to run maschine in 32 bit mode. On mac, click “get info” on the maschine icon, then set it to “run in 32 bit mode”
How do I export the sounds from Reason when using Rewire vst? All of my other sounds can be heard from Maschine except the ones from Reason. Can anyone help please?
What I forgot to mention was the group that contains the rewired Reason sounds will not playback the patterns in that group when I try to export the finished track.
You would have to record the rewire sounds into Maschine through the rewire plugin and have them in maschine as samples.
YOUR THE MAN!!!! Thank you! This is the best subscription I’ve ever paid for! Quick question….will running Maschine in 32 bit affect the sound quality of any previous tracks I’ve worked on?
No, it doesn’t mess with the sound it’s just how it integrates with the operating system. It’s a code/programming thing, not related to the actual sound itself.
Good look bro.
Reason is linked with Maschine but I’m not getting and Midi signal to the Maschine from Reason. When I playback in Maschine Reason also plays but no signal. I set it up exactly how you did in this video except I’m using Maschine Virtual Output instead of the VMidi1. This is frustrating dude but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Nevermind. Got it working. Thanks man! I appreciate the help!
Glad you got it fam!
I’m having a lot of trouble sampling the midi from reason into the maschine. It samples but it plays very slow and distorted. Is there any way to export out of maschine the track without sampling all the reason sounds?
How exactly are you sampling it into Maschine? You may have to normalize it once you get the samples in. There is no way to export the Reason sounds without sampling them, this is how rewire works.
When I sample I can play back the sample in the lower left hand corner of the sample window and it’s there but when I paint it in the grid window it doesn’t play.
If you have the sample in Maschine you should be able to play it like any other sample, as long as there is an actual sample file there for you to play.
Yes, I’m sampling it exactly as you demonstrate in the video and I see the sample but it will not playback. I did everything by the Maschine Tutorial book and for some reason nothing playing back after I sample. Strange!
That’s very weird man, if you sampled it into Maschine you should be able to play the sample in maschine, no extra settings to make
Ya dude….no luck. I’ve been trying to get this shit straight for two days now. Still no luck.
you don’t have problems playing anything else in Maschine?
Not at all.
Got it working but now the levels are way off and I can hear the sample skip at the beginning when it’s playing through each scene. I normalized each sample and all that and all the levels coming in from reason are the same as well as in the maschine but when I sample it the levels are way off.
There’s got to be a step being missed here, or maybe just something weird going on with your setup and how it is recording as I have never ran into any of the trouble you are having. Do you have the ability to post a video of what you are doing? It may help to see what’s going on, other than that I’m just not sure what else your issue could be if you’ve done everything exactly how I outlined in the video.
Yessss! Now I can use Reason & Maschine 2gether…MaschineTutorials.com is the Best!!!
No doubt, have fun wit it!!
Tight tutorial. Hopefully you picked up Reason 6. Cuz as you know it has that “SSL” board in it. You already know what it is when you transfer Maschine tracks to that board to mix down. I use this method for Ableton too, and the sound is AMAZING. It sounds lush and warm. So what I did was go to a friends studio who has a SSL AWS 948. He uses Protools and Logic. I plugged in and told him to do a quick mix in Reason 6. The look on this cats face was shock! He looked at my… Read more »
Glad you dig it man, I’ve tried to get into Reason multiple times, I just don’t really jive with it man. But I know many love it, and that SSL mixer is nice for sure.
wassup SJ. messing round with this CooperLan thing. never used it before. trying to understand the whole virtual MIDI concept. anyways, i went to the connections tab & for some reason, i can’t establish a MIDI connection. what’s should i do?
Everything that is required I did in the video. What exactly is it not doing?
well, i pulled up CopperLan. i saw the MIDI boxes in both the overview & the connector tab. i also saw the 4 midi ports. but i can’t make them connect. (???)
you gotta click on the lil square in the first box, then the second one, then the plus sign on the third one, then put a check in the last one
Even though this is an older posting I still wanted to say thanks to you & Knock. The possibilities of this workflow with Reason has got me constantly daydreaming about stuff to do *lol*.
great, that’s the plan!
Hi SaintJoe, I’m having problems getting Copperlan 1.2.6 to work. When I open it in the Overview tab, I do see the Midi box with my computer name. The only way I can get anything to appear in the Connect tab is to first go to the Edit tab; and under the MIDI to CP Interface option, switch my audio interface(3-Scarlett 2i4 USB) to ON. Once I do that, if I click the Connect tab, it shows MIDI> 3-Scarlett 2i4 USB> then the choice to add MIDI virtual cable; but I never get the VMidi 1 – 4 choices you… Read more »
Yeah I think they may have changed it a bit, you can also use loopmidi or loopbe to do the same thing, and they are a bit easier to setup
Cool, I will give loopmidi a try. I think I will stay away from loopbe since you had issues in the past.
Thanks!
Yeah as OS updates and software updates happen, things change a bit lol. I noticed copperlan is a bit more complex now, but it still works you just have a few more steps in the software to get connected. You could also just use the rewire now, with multiple channels https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-routing-multiple-channels-of-reason-7-audio-and-midi-using-rewire/
Joe….can’t we eliminate loopbe and loopmidi out of the equation altogether now (with Maschine 2.0) since maschine can do multi midi now?
That’s what I linked him to 🙂
Hi saintjoe/knocksquared, Well I have struggled with this for the past couple of days. I wanted to duplicate what you did in the video using tonespace to produce chords with other packages eg. Kontakt. I followed your suggestion of using ReWire from the link above. I downloaded it and installed it in the VST folder. When I open the 32 bit version of Maschine, it does appear along with tonespace. I can can launch tonespace from Maschine; but when I launch ReWire from Maschine – the ReWire opens but it says: “ReWire not available”. I can’t progress any further because… Read more »
You don’t need rewire for using tonespace, and if you don’t have any rewire clients (like reason) nothing will show up in there. Also, Reason 7 is 64 bit so you would have to install the 32 bit version to use it with the rewire plugin.
Ok, cool. So, let me recap. I wanted to duplicate exactly what you did in your video for making tonespace produce chords through other packages like Kontakt. I first tried to use Copperlan as mentioned in the video; but it has changed and I couldn’t get it to work so you suggested loopmidi or loopbe. But then you also said I would not need either of those, and that I could use ReWire. So basically I’m asking what do I need to do to get tonespace to produce chords in Maschine through a package like Kontact as described in your… Read more »
Yeah, since this was about reason/rewire I thought you were trying to use Reason, that’s why I suggested rewire, as this video didn’t have anything to do with tonespace.
Tonespace still doesn’t work great in Maschine, and you would need a virtual midi cable at least, like loopbe, loopmidi, or copperlan, as shown in the original tonespace video I did.
Understood. I knew I probably confused things :). I will try loopmidi.
Thanks again!
