This is part two from the video I did on using Traktor Pro as a virtual turntable to sample into Maschine
I promised to follow up with a free version for those that don’t own Traktor, and I found some good ones.
I’m sure Traktor stands on it’s own for performance and djs, but for us sample heads/crate diggers who are used to having a basic turntable next to us, these work perfectly.

Good looking out SJ.
I’m luvin the virtual DJ freebie and will be on it tonight.
Keep em coming man.
1 Luv.
yeah that’s the one I really dig, thanks for watching!
great vid!!! I’m gonna get on that tonight most def!! Is there a way to play an mp3 at 45rpm??
Thanks
load your mp3 and increase the pitch to whatever you want.
Nice! All I need now is an interface that will let me use it! lol But I like Virtual DJ Home a lot so I’m gonna spend some time tonight to see if I can find a way to get that output into Maschine. I borrowed a mixer for a while and that got the job done, but I’d rather go straight in if possible. I gave up looking last time I encountered this problem but that is dope so I’m gonna try again. If I find anything that works I’ll let you know. Great video man – got me… Read more »
hahahaha, yeah I like virtual dj too, it’s really simple and cool with a bunch of features, really brings that diggin aspect to the digital world.
thats why your the Guru. Thanks Saintjoe.VirtualDj seems better to me the look the ease of use plus tells you what key the song is in perfect for those oldschool samples.
yeah, knowing the key of the sample is really cool man, I like that feature as well, definitely a dope workflow.
SaintJoe I’m really feelin the virtual DJ’s simplicity like you mentioned man, it keeps the creativity and the workflow at the forefront. Nice find. I was using Mixx for a while but I like Virtual dj better,
yeah, I like it man, my favorite one, love the interface and how quick it is to do what ya want.
Thats WAAAAASSSS SUUUUPPPP.
word son!
Great Vid SJ
Having problem bring V DJ into Maschine, its not in my plugins.
What am I doing wrong?
it’s not a plugin, it’s a standalone app, I have output routed into maschine because my audio interface allows routing from app to app, if yours doesn’t, you’d need to do it physically.
SJ what kind of interface do you have that allows you to sample internally via output being routed into maschine?
focusrite saffire pro 24 has a feature called loopback recording, let’s me route anything playing on my computer to anything else via the loopback input.
Ok Joe!
I’ll have another bash it this again.
im diggin the feature on the interface. curious to find out whether the inteface i have is capable of the same….And may have to giv the virtual DJ a try seeing as how I’ve been having some troubles with my physical turntable HA!
Thanks as always homie!
Not sure, depends on the interface, I got this one specifically for the feature, I need it for doing my videos.
yea i have the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. I will have to do some research to see if i can do the same… Pandora’s “Madlib” radio station is screaming at me to be sampled! internally ofcourse…
I don’t think the fast track does it, but definitely check and see.
yo SJ thats a great video i had download both these program like a month ago but didnt know i could use them wit the Maschine. Good Look Fam
no doubt fam!!
YO MT Family! SaintJoe The GURU! Knock The SINSEI! Fresh back from the abyss, I picked up a GEM while I was out there! Joe, thank you SO much for doin the cyber work to find VirtualDJ Home. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. You truly have no idea how much this integrates the way I like to flow thru my creative process. Peep, Knock did a video a while back called ‘How to sample what you hear on your computer into Maschine (#34)”. Although the way the Sinsei did it was dope, I have an Apogee Duet… Read more »
No doubt fam, it’s all about finding ways to work in your own setup, that’s a dope software for mac users, fam. And virtual dj home free is dope, glad you got that flow you looking for fam!
NICE !!! Thanks for that Bro !! And We appreciate the Love man. LOL..oh and on one of your post you forgot to Cloak at the end…LOL… But I let you slide.
P.S.
I forgot to include in my last post that because LineIn is Soundflower dependent, your sound WILL be interrupted after 12-15 mins. (at least on my system it does). For ME, this isn’t a big deal, as it takes approximately 2 seconds (really) to quit and restart soundflower, it’s instantaneous. Since I don’t sample for that long, I revert Maschine back to Duet as soon as I’m done sampling so I can chop em up.
that’s whasup fam, you should post that in the forum too under sampling, good stuff.
Thanks Joe. You, Knock and the site are definitely helpin me to bring it all together.
thanks fam, that’s what we here for!
HAAA Knock!
You caught my cloak slip! Glad you had your joint set to STUN…LOL!
Joe! definitely gonna post this over on the sampling forum. Matter fact, gonna do it right now.
Yo Knock!…..I’m cloaked
Dope son! Only thing I wish…is that I could set it to only have 1 deck lol, a slim 1 deck layout, I don’t need two. Seems no one makes a virtual turntable like this lol, they all have at least 2 or more decks!
hey sj you can down load serato and it has a 1 vj deck but it is pretty big interface as i know that you said that you don’t like the big interface. but the program works as one deck to set up loop points, and cues, it only moves to the full program when you hook up the sl-1, 2 or 3, 57, 56 to the computer. the reason serato did this is becuase when your editing your tracks you are not always at your dj set up, and it allows you to work out your playlist while you’re… Read more »
thanks for the info fam! what the name of that program? Gonna check it out fam.
the program is http://www.serato.com
Also somebody was looking for the pc version of “Soundflower” i believe that this is what they are looking for: http://jackaudio.org/applications
this program also works for the program that you sugested.
http://www.mixxx.org/features.php
I haven’t used it but i’m ging to take a look at and see how well it works
naaaah brotha lol, jack is wack on windows lol, far from elegant in setting up/using.
oh word, didn’t know! i just saw that it worked with mixxx. thanks for the head up!
the name of the program is http://www.serato.com
yeah, but they have a bunch of programs, I just downloaded itch and scratch lol
oh ok i see what you mean, i’m slow. but the program that i was talking aobut is scratch. sorry about that
cool, thanks.
Hey SJ I was messing with this virtual DJ. Is there a way you can map the turntables to your bender wheel on your key board for scratching purposes instead of using the mouse on the PC????
I don’t know, haven’t messed with the mapping etc, I just used it as a way to sample my songs lol.
Wow didnt thin of using it for that. Good tip SJ
yep, that’s what this post is about, using it to sample your stuff into Maschine 🙂
Hey SaintJoe What Sample is that ? I heard somthing in the groove I’de Like to use if you dont mind. Hit me up in A Message!
Its a collection of samples I bought from the creator, he used to do stuff for film/tv music. I bought it out from him.
Not something that’s on the market or records, etc 🙂 It’s the type of stuff I like to use so I don’t have to deal with royalties and such.
Mac users can also use the algoriddim’s program Djay for this. Basic but really looks like 2 turntables. u can also hit record and it will send the recored parts to your itunes library. The recorded parts can be change in the prefences to aiff.
cool fam, thanks for sharing.
maschine fam…can this be done with Torq LE as well?!…have a copy of it…don’t use it much at all…but it could come in useful for exactly this purpose…
yessir, as long as you can route sound from it to maschine it will work
thanx much SJ…one love…
no doubt fam, no doubt!
i’m thinking i’ll have to make use of soundflower…to route the audio from torq le to maschine for sampling…as i’m working on a mac…
yeah soundflower is an option
Saintjoe First off let me start by saying thank you putting up this site. $10 is a great price for all the info and samples you provide. Anyways I’m having trouble recording my samples. Can you walk me through what I’m doing wrong? I run Window’s 7 with a RelTeck Sound Card using Serato Scratch Live with an SL1 box. And i wanted to know if i can sample music with my CDJ’s through my Behringer DDM4000 mixer & Serato? Or do you have to run some type of 3rd party program like Soundflower? Which I know i can’t use… Read more »
Hmmm, I don’t know what a few of those are, but how is your audio routed, you should be able to sample from your cdj into Maschine I would think, with no issues, as long as Maschine can see the input of your cdj or mixer you have it hooked up to.
Well Joe, I can see my audio input in the audio & midi settings in Maschine. These are the settings i use
Maschine Out 1 L- Realtek Digital Output L
Maschine Out 1 R- Realtek Digital Output R
Maschine Out 2 L – Speakers L
Maschine Out 2 R – Speakers R
As you can see Joe I do not have it set for looping.
I don’t what I’m doing wrong?
How do you get sound into your computer? That’s the routing you need to check, your output doesn’t matter, it’s what’s coming in that you need to look at. Look at the input tab on the routing preferences, it should have an input setup for however you have your cdj hooked into your computer, no looping needed as you’re not going from software to software, you’re going from your cdj, external, into your computer.
Okay, I think i follow. I looked at the Output and they are set to Maschine in 1 L Microphone L
Maschine in 1 R Microphone R
Should i plug into the Microphone input ??
you can use the mic input or the line in
I do not have a line input. so it will have to be the Mic.
But if i plug into the mic i can still hear music out of my laptop?
How is it going to pick up my sample through the mic input?
Thanks for your help SJ
Your mic is what goes in to your computer, what you hear is what is at the output so plugging into the mic doesn’t effect your output. You can monitor what you’re sampling directly in maschine if you wish. What you really need is a dedicated audio interface with the proper hookups, but if you have the cables to hook from your cdj/mixer into your laptop then that’s what you will have to use to get the music into your computer
Just to be clear i have a 4 chan. mixer
Chan.1 has an Aux plug going into my Mic input on my laptop
Chan.2 is hooked up to my left CDJ through my serato box
Chan.3 is hooked up to my right CDJ through my serato box
Chan.4 Nothing
Well… Still no luck. Perhaps I need a different type of cable to sample? but i don’t see why?? Man this sucks lol
SJ do you have any other suggestions or people i could talk too??
how do you have your mixer hooked up to your computer?
My mixer is hookup threw my serato SL1 box which is pluged into my laptop with a USB cable
OK, you need to make your serato interface your default interface for maschine and hook your speakers up to your serato/mixer
Okay I do not see Serato as a option for my audio interface
Under my Driver tab I have
-ASIO
-WASAPI (Shared mode)
Under my Device tab I have
-Guitar Rig Mobile I/O
-Guitar Rig Session I/O
-Rig Kontrol 3
can i record with guitar Rig? or is that only for guitar sampling.
Hmmm, maybe the serato can only be used with serato? As for the guitar rig, if you have a guitar rig interface you can try it, really need a way to get your outside audio into your computer, and it seems like you can’t use the serato device as an auto interface. It doesn’t show up under wasapi mode or asio at all? If you had the proper cable, most likely rca to 1/8″, you could connect the output of your mixer into your realtek mic/line in port
I did some searching and it seems hit or miss in terms of using the sl1 as an audio interface. It should be showing up under asio, but make sure you have serato closed. The asio drivers should have been installed when you installed the latest version of serato scratch live.
excellent info thank SJ. So if i understand correctly i will not be using the Serato program to sample from?
I will have to use Mixx or Virtual DJ?
If I’m using Virtual DJ for example i would select config, and in the sound set up tab Laptop (with USB soundcard)?
If that makes sence?
I guess I assumed you were trying to actual sample from the cd in your cdj 🙂
If you are trying to sample from the software to another software then I don’t think your audio interface supports this option, but again, if you could get a cable to go from your rane/mixer into your realtek, it would work.
haha ya probably should of mentioned that sorrry bout that.
Yes that’s what im trying to do. 😉
At any rate. To accomplish what I’m trying to do i think would have to use Native Instruments Itch instead of Serato. There just seems to be a compatibility issue. I’ll try using a different cable. Perhaps that will do the job.
For now i need to start watching some of your 101 videos!!
Thanks Fam.
Yo SaintJoe! Quick question– can these virtual decks be midi-mapped with something like Numark Mixtrack Pro? Would be great to be able to use a controller like that with these free decks…. let me know, thanks bro!
I believe they can but I’m not 100% sure, I don’t dj so I never really messed with it like that 🙂
Str8 Dopeness!
This is a classic one man, glad you dig it 🙂
