What’s good MT fam! This is a tutorial requested by a member wanting to know how to pitch up your samples before you sample them into Maschine.
This is a familiar workflow for anyone used to sampling from turntables but with Maschine it’s just not as simple, you can’t really adjust the pitch of your samples on input, you’d have to wait until you’re done.
I was looking for different options for him, I saw a few plugins that I tried on my input, but it was hit and miss, I figured a virtual turntable would be the best option so I tried Traktor Pro and it works pretty good.
I will look for other dj software that is similar, but since I don’t dj, I didn’t know much about these softwares lol, I’m sure there’s a free virtual turntable out there somewhere, I’ll keep looking for one.
Basically I just use Traktor as a turntable to virtually sample the same way I would from a hardware turntable. It lets me seek through the files, pitch up and down, add fx, etc.
I will admit, now I want to get one of those x1 controllers to control my “virtual turntable”, really digging the workflow of sampling from Traktor over sampling from itunes or media player. Feels more like digging in the crates.
Anyway, check this out. Yo Daniel, I hope this helps ya out fam!

ok thanx SJ helped alot… now i can do what i really want with my samples.. thanx allllllllllllllot….
Dope bro! Thanks for asking the question, I have a new workflow now lol. I think NI should include a single deck version of Traktor with Maschine that shows up as an input for those that don’t have soundcards that offer internal routing. Just so we can have a virtual turntable for sampling mp3, wave, etc. Would be dope. I don’t need two decks lol.
YEEEESSSSSS !!! I Love that workflow. Dope vid man. It makes me feel like I am diggin again. Thats an important thing to be able to pitch the samples up or down before sampling. Thanks man !
Yeah man, I’m actually diggin it, glad he asked about it lol. I never messed with Traktor before lol.
Pleeeease get that X1 controller I would love to see a video with that integration.
LOL we’ll see man lol.
Doh … I have traktor pro and I aint even think about using the two together.
Thanks SJ
No doubt man, as I said, I’m not a dj at all lol, so for me it’s strictly a virtual turntable, it’s a nice workflow, I think the x1 would make it even better!
Nice!
I think I’d get something like the Numark Mixtrack Pro rather than the X1 tho – around the same price but much more like using decks, which makes a HUGE difference IMO. I’m not a DJ either but I’ve used both types of controller and there’s just no comparison.
All I want is a hands on way to press play and scrub through my track lol, I’m not looking for a deck replacement. Plus the x1 is small 🙂
I’ve founds some free software too, so I will follow up with another videos showing the freebies I’ve come across.
Cool stuff. I was not aware the Saffire could do that. Is that due to a “mixer” software application that runs in the background?
saffire is awesome lol, it has a control panel but it doesn’t run in the background. You just setup your inputs, etc, and it just works. Loopback inputs are on by default, you just set it to what you want it to listen to, I have it listening to the mix l/r.
Cosign.
Cool…
…but once you’ve played around with it, you’ll find room for it lol – loads of fun and a better experience altogether.

Look forward to the other videos tho man – if you just want a way to sample from your MP3s, etc., which I do, then ‘free software’ definitely is of interest.
I hear ya man, I wouldn’t mind a single deck version, I’ve never been a two turntable guy so I have no interest lol. But a small single deck that I can control my samples from would be nice 🙂
Yeah man, I’m finding some cool freebies, definitely can’t wait to show them!
did you check these guys
http://www.mixxx.org/
Yep
Cool 🙂 not considered working this way before as not a DJ but after seeing your post thought I’d go and have a look and it looked like it fitted the bill, free/cross platform etc
yeah it’s definitely on the list of freebies, it’s a cool workflow using a digital turntable as opposed to a regular media player like itunes or wmp
SJ you ain’t no damn good! i Just sold my Serato, now I got to go out and get traktor pro…you Killing Me! LOL…Nice video!
Don’t go buy it just yet, I have a follow up video coming with some freebies that will do the trick 🙂
dam joe i guess my little ideal was a big hit lol… love this site man
Yessir, glad you asked me how to do it, I tried so many things and figured I’d try Tracktor like I told you, even though I hadn’t messed with it before I had thought about doing it lol. But there are many free softwares that will work for this, I will cover them in my next video.
dope tutorial joe!
Stay tuned for part 2!!
u can slow down the tempo without changing the pitch in Traktor also….i will be waiting for part 2!!! good video!
Yep, using the key lock, which is dope too, forgot to show that part lol.
Ahh SJ.u a beast fo real.
Dope vid man!
I been tryna find ways around this and you saved the day again. Man I’m eager to see Part 2 now.
Thanks for spreading the knowledge fam.
Thanks for checking it fam! Glad you like it. Part 2 is basically just the same thing, only I found some free versions, I may just skip the video and do a post with the links to the free versions I found.
few comments on this since I use Traktor skratch pro in my set up a good bit. 1) Joe while you nad I both know the X1 is dope I just wanted to let you know you could get a lil $50 korg nano pad and easily map your start, stop , pitch up, pitch down, key lock, and even fx and cue points very quickly. for what you need or other users who like me wanna save our money for our larger purchases, and don’t need the lush landscape that is the x1 or even a cheapo behringer bcd3000… Read more »
man I saw a few lil controllers, one was a dj mouse, I like having the jog wheel/platter thingy so I’m considering that option, but who knows, I may just map maschine knobs to it lol.
Nah son… no knobs while diggin… thats a penalty..LOL
hahaha, man I want one of them young cdj joints, just with a start/stop, pitch fader and a platter, I’m good! lol, I found one I want too.
Could you just load it n a group and then record the internal output from that group?
i
yep, but you don’t get the pitch changing, timestretching, tracktor fx, or song scrubbing when you do it that way 🙂
Is this video available anymore?
Yeah, try it now, thanks.
Hey SaintJoe,
Brilliant series & your videos are top stuff always. Respect & keep it up.
Just wanted to check with you if the loopback feature is available in the Scarlet 2i2. Do let me know when you have any information on this.
Thank you.
Glad to help man. It doesn’t look like that device has the virtual loopback option.

How about the Saffire 6 USB model?
You may have to contact them and see as they don’t have that one listed on the comparison chart it seems. Usually it would mention it in the info on the product though, but I don’t see it mentioned on that interface.
hey, loving the site so far ! which saffire do you have ? i have the saffire pro 24 dsp. i have followed everything in this video so far, when i select the loopback under maschines audio routing i dont seem to be getting any in from traktor. do i need to select loop back on the saffire mix control ?
Glad you dig it fam! I no longer use the Saffire but in the mix control you have to make sure you have loopback setup to receive the output of your main mix. Here’s a video I did showing how to set it up.

excellent thanks !
No problem, thanks.
