I’ll be honest, this is 100% better than a user manual. Simple breakdown in simple terms. Thanks!
awesome man, glad you like it, that’s what we go for, trying to break it down as simple as possible so folks can get to work!
Now…go setup your profile picture 😉
New member here. Thanks man. I bought maschine about 2 weeks ago an just set everything up the other day due to me redoing the studio. opened it and almost sent it back because i was completely lost. I am very software based. Reason and Pro tools are my bread and butter but this looks promising. Thanks again. Im glad I found you guys…..
Haha what up Vin!!!
cool man, glad to help, make sure to ask any questions you may have we are always working on new tutorials.
good looks as always man. but the one thing i couldent get to wark was the bars section…i want to make the rec. as long as pose. so when im makin a beat it just keeps goin….how do i go about that?
The bars here are just for your defaults, when starting a new pattern you can make it as long as you wish, but you still have to change the bars at the pattern level to match what you want, not sure what you mean by going on forever though.
Great tutorial, i’ve been producing with Maschine for a couple of months and i’ve learned some cool things with this one. I don’t like user manuals…i prefer your videos! Peace.
Awesome, that’s what we’re here for 😉
Saintjoe, this is really good man, no technical jargons. Just some straight forward approach. I like it.
It saves me the trouble and what not.
Joining this forum is a good investment in my opinion man. Well done,
Thanks bro! glad to help, that’s what we trying to do man, make it easy to master this Maschine!
I bought my Maschine off a friend who only used it a few times, and needed some money. I have literally had it sitting on the floor for 6 months, plugged it in and banged on the pads a few times.
If the first video is any indication of how much more I am going to learn on this site I can feel I will have it mastered in no time.
I’m super stoked.
Respect.
That is great! Welcome! Make sure you ask any questions you have, that’s why we are here!
I think im guna like it here
Great! Make sure you setup your picture so we can see ya!
Hey St. Joe, Is there something I can do in preferences to make the mashine software recognize the hardware quicker? Everytime I plug in my mashine (I’m running a macbook pro with snow lepoard) it takes between 5-15 minutes for the software to boot up. It’s crazy frustrating.
Hmmm, that don’t sound right. Is it set to scan your plugins on startup? You can turn that off in preferences. I also know your hard drive speed will play a part in that too. But it doesn’t have anything to do with the controller.
I’m not seeing a Defaults tab under my preferences. Or anywhere at that.
It’s there, on the general tab at the bottom.
I attached a screenshot of the Preferences tab at this link http://bit.ly/pJWuj9
Edit: http://bit.ly/nzqGKn
says page not found.
Got it. Needed to update the software.
cool fam, that’s whasup.
awesome job im a newbie here and to maschine and production as well. if the rest of your tutorials are as straightforward as this hopefully ill be laying down some beats soon ,looking forward to it,
mike
Glad to help, that’s our desire, to get you up and making tracks quickly 🙂
Nice! Throw the manual in the trash, this is way better. Thanks guys!
LOL Awesome! Glad to help!
Just in case anyone was wondering .. Setting your screen brightness and contrast will come in very handy if you have to perform or use Maschine in direct sunlight. Otherwise you will be angling your head to see it at default settings.
Im looking forward to exploring this site from top to bottom. Nothing beats a clear, concise and confident voice. Thanks for putting this together on such a high production level.
Yes indeed, I wish it had more of a “viewing angle” adjustment like on my emu mp7, it’s sort of a contrast thing but works to adjust it so you can see it better from different angles without having to look directly from the top, good stuff!
Just got my account. First video and its good. Very basic stuff but its nice. So far Im happy with my purchase. Nice job.
Cool man welcome, we have to cover the basics for sure, but there’s tons more outside of that in here )
If you don’t see something you need help with, make sure to ask
see ya around
Hey St. Joe, I got the mashine mikro and the preferences tab is a little different in the template part. I was wondering how to set up things the way I want it for the Mikro?
Are you talking about controller editor and creating templates and not the maschine software preferences?
The software preferences are exactly the same, the controller will not change the software itself.
Now the template editor will be different if that’s what you mean, and there, you just set it up to do what you want using the pads/buttons.
In the software preferences, when go to defaults, when template project. Under Standalone, I don’t have “Use Current” mine shows “Mashine Library/ Projects. How do I get “Use Current” so I can save my start up preferences?
Oh yeah, got ya. They changed it so you can pick whatever project you want to be the default. I made a request that they add the button back as well. So you’d make a project with all your default settings, save it, then go there and point to it. Sometimes saving it as “NewProject” will automatically put it in there.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! Man your better than the manual.
No doubt fam, my fault, I know you was probably like “dude is buggin” lol!!
I should probably do a new video showing this too.
just purchased maschine, i have no beat making experience but am trying to get my rhymes out there without being dependent on someone else to make beats for me. likin the videos so far! any recs for a very new beginner on getting started ?
Welcome fam! We’ll do our best to get you rockin!
I suggest starting with the 101, it’s not everything for beginners but it covers a lot of the basics to get you going, go from top to bottm and you should be good to go!

of course if you have any questions just ask
I am unable to load kits without patterns. I checked the pattern box and then unchecked it just to make sure. I also loaded kits on the hardware with the same negative results. I watched some of your tutorials but your hardware is always at the initial settings which I cannot seem to pull up. I need to know how to find empty patterns. Any advice?
Hey fam, to load a kit without the pattern make sure on the hardware in the browser that “patt” isn’t enabled with the check, if loading from the software make sure there isn’t a checkmark in the pattern box
check this video

just joined– thanks for your site. i’m a rookie but a quicker learner. question when i browse thru content and choose any of the banks in maschine mikro(except what came with mikro) like damage, kontakt, studio drummer west Africa etc i get this error message “plugin not found. please check the plugin path in the maschine preferences and rescan plug ins.” any insights would be GREATLY appreciated. blessings
No problem, you just need to activate them in the plugin directory, check this out

I Love You Saint Joe
Hahahaha lol no doubt fam!
Sup Saint, Just got into music production and I went right after the top dog 3days ago and got the Maschine Studio. Do you do private lessons? I’m willing to fly you out here for a day just to learn this. I’m one of those Marines that needs to be shown something to learn it. lol

Sup fam! Nah I don’t, but if you have specific questions feel free to ask, if you need specific videos just let us know!
ok, i was wondering why you don’t have a video on how to get started right out the box. I hate reading manuals. your first video is too advanced. I’m i suppose to just plug the maschine in my laptop? Cant see and sounds or anything on the mashine. i need a basic basic 101 start up. thanks for understanding.
Yes maschine is a controller for the software so you need to plug it into your computer with the usb cable after you install the software.
how do you hook the maschine up to my macbook pro and then start using it with the program?
I did that. You went to staight to assigning midi and whatnot in your first video. I need something b4 that. Like a video right out the box. when you take the maschine out the box. or some instructions thanks.
this is my first venture into the software world. Im coming from the mpc 3000 world. Got that when it first dropped. Don’t want to tell you what i spent for that when it dropped. but thanks understanding.
All good fam. There should be a usb cable in the box to hook it up to your Mac.
come on fam, i’ve done all this b4 i contacted you. it lights up but then I cant see any sounds in the boxes. maybe i need to be more specific. i have installed the software and see some some sounds in the program but how do get my maschine box to act as a midi controller?
When you asked “how do I hook it up to the computer” that’s why I answered that way. What do you see on the screens of Maschine? In order to browse sounds you have to hit the browse button. Do you just see “maschine” on the screen or is it showing some other parameters?
Just the home page. Maschine and groove production studio.
Which controller do you have? Sometimes you can turn the power on and off once the software is open to fix it. If not unplug it and reinstall controller editor software to make sure the driver is installed properly.
i mean the program up and running.
Did you already install the software that came on the disc with it?
come on man. give me some credit. i need to know the next step to step up machine and get it running with the software.
Maybe I’m not following your questions properly, I’m just using the info you’re posting. It seemed like you didn’t have the software running at all. You said “I mean the program up and running” I also asked which controller you’re using. Sometimes reinstalling the controller editor software will fix it, it sounds like your driver didn’t get installed properly if you have it plugged up and you already have the software installed/open.
I got a maschine mk 2. i can open the program up but it doesn’t seem to b communicating with the hardware. can you maybe take me through the next step. like what buttons to press. thx
i need a step by step process on how to get off and running using the maschine.
That definitely sounds like an issue with the driver, there are no button presses needed, as soon as you open the software the controller should notice it. Inside of the software in audio/midi preferences do you see the Maschine controller? I suggest logging into your NI account and downloading the controller editor software again so that you can install it, it will install the driver. If you want and have time tomorrow I can remotely connect to your computer and see if I can locate the issue. Hit me up at help@MaschineTutorials.com and I’ll let you know how we can… Read more »
Joe I have the machines studio, I just recently got it… For some reason the driver 3.1.2 wont install right and I cant import my third party samples library into the tagged base system of maschine… Can you check it out for me? I really want to use my organic drum kits but I cant. Also massive is not working and my plug in solid bus comp says could not load 1 or more plug-ins! same thing massives says…. It’s very complicated to come off the cash for the maschine studio and then turn around and spend some more on… Read more »
Make sure your plugins are actually setup in your preferences, you’re loading the presets but if the plugins aren’t checked in the plugin manager Maschine can’t use them.
Check this out: https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-understanding-the-preferences-menu/
As for the thrid party kit, how did you try to add them? I would add them through the preferences by adding the folder to your user library, then going into the menu and clicking “Import 1.x format” and they should work.
If it uses an alias make sure you add that, check these two videos out:
https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-import-user-kits-samples-and-libraries-in-maschine-2-0/
https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-importing-third-party-expansions-that-use-an-alias/
Will do Joe, thanks…
No problem man!
Will you guide me to a set preference for MK2 setup?
Not sure exactly what you mean, what are you trying to setup? The software is the same no matter which controller you have. If you’re using version 2.0 use this video https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-understanding-the-preferences-menu/
No I was using the one on this page. I will go to the link you sent
What’s quantize? What does that do?
Quantize aligns your notes to the grid so if you play off beat it will fix it.
Thank you sanitjoe
No problem fam.
my preferences don’t look like this under pattern length my bars look like this 16:0:0
This is an older software version, check this one
