Hey what’s up MT Family! I’ve been getting some questions on my original Logic sequencing video from some members saying they’ve followed it and it’s not working.
I wasn’t sure if there was something I may have said or didn’t say that caused some confusion so I’m doing another video where I setup it up completely from scratch after reinstalling Logic on my iMac.
So this video is the step by step way I setup Maschine in Logic for proper sequencing for those that had issues with my original video.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you… You finally made a video that’s idiot proof. I got it to work finally. 🙂
No Doubt.. I am glad it helped. I am sorry if I somehow confused you with the first vid..i was talking a lot..lol
Yes. Yes.Yes. And One knock!
Hey sorry, but I have Mark 2 and this does not work. I did everything you said and all the groups play through channel 1. Do you know how or where I may go to locate mark 2 tutorials? thank you.
Michael. You see that i have the Mk2 in the video also right? I am not sure why you mentioned that since I am using it also…but the setup in this video does indeed work. I am not sure why it does not work on your end. I did this vid right after a clean install of Logic so it is nothing out of the ordinary that i did other than what I did in this video. Are you making sure that Group E is selected AFTER you go into Controller mode on the Hardware. Also… have you used maschine in… Read more »
Did you possibly watch another video on Logic here and maybe replied in the wrong video. IF you see the MK1 in the video you were watching..its not this video.
Sorry I must have been confused with another video. That said, this method simply doesn’t work for me. I’ll keep trying. will let you know.
Thank you
hey Knocksquared, I must be missing something here. I’ve done everything you say step by step and it doesnt work. You mentioned make sure group e is selected after i go into controller mode. if I do that its just another group highlighted in the maschine software. my sounds are on group a and b. when i shift control to come out of controller mode the group e is is lit, but i can’t trigger anything whatsoever. i’m using the mackie control template found in the controller editor. should i be make changes in controller editor? i’ve been using logic… Read more »
Hello, I am having the same problem as Michael. I have tried every single video online and cannot get this working. In my case if I press Shift Control and light E as you say, then nothing works. No control from the Maschine pads. Just from my external controller. So basically the midi set up is there. If I use my Novation keyboard I can drive all the sounds by midi channel. But that defeats the whole reason I bought this thing. The pad controls don’t work for me. I even tried all the other videos on Youtube same results.… Read more »
Kelly… can you open up the controller editor software and see if group E on pad one is C3? First open Logic then open maschine inside logic…then open up the controller editor software. I have to ask… have you made any custom templates in the controller editor software? I am not sure at all why this does not work for you because it works every single time i do it….exactly as I did in the video.
i must not have my controller editor set up wrong. i have selected the mackie controller as per an earlier video “how to set up transport control in logic” i’ve ensured that group e is selected. pad 1 is set to c3 and so on. when i follow your steps and hit shift control. pad one makes my logic screen minimize. i clearly don’t have the editor functioning right. i’ve shut down and restarted. perhaps a good tutorial for us using mark 2 is one with respect to setting up a logic template as the mackie dosn’t seem to be… Read more »
Host transport control is not the same setup as this. The mackie template isn’t setup the same way as the default template. That may be what is causing your issue.
Ok so I did the reinitialize without 32 bit checked (this comment came from 400 for the video on how to set up maschine for transport control in logic). I have an axiom pro 49 which I think was messing things up a bit. Anyway, after some trial and error Its working for me. I had to set my in and out ports in logic’s controller set up screen to Maschine Mk2 virtual. Set my Axiom to Hypercontrol in and out. I also went into Maschine’s stand alone app and turned off all the midi in and outs aside from… Read more »
hey disregard my other posts. i got it working, but i had to delete the mackie control in controller editor and make my own logic control template. i then went into controller set up in logic and deleted the mackie control as well. then went to controller assignment in logic and mapped my buttons. all good now. i’m sure your way works fine, but wasn’t for me since clearly i missed something. all good now. now i can make use of your awesome site!
cheers,
mike
Yeah the issue was you were mixing the mackie template with creating your own, the mackie template isn’t setup for sending midi like a general template, it’s mainly for control and no so much sending midi notes/data.
Glad you got it working 🙂
hello, so I have followed all the steps and the I can record trigger notes just fine. My problem is only the root note is playing. The notes are not spread across the 16 pads. Except for pad ‘1’, the other pads do not trigger any sound. I am in group ‘E’ when doing this. Does it ever happen to you or do you know what the problem might be ?
What do you mean by spread across the pads, are you trying to trigger a single instrument instead of a drum kit? If so, you need to setup that specific pad to have it’s own midi channel using “sound midi settings” by right clicking on the pad, and giving it a midi channel. Then it will respond to your midi channel on all notes. For kits you use “midi batch setup” and set “sounds to midi notes” this lets you have a different note for each sound, but it will only play the root note of each sound.
Yes! I was referring to some violins. It works great now, thanks a lot.
cool, glad to help!
I have one more question hah So I have 3 midi channels right now, 1 kick 1 snare and 1 clap. I want to insert a sample delay only on the clap. Is there a way of placing an insert on the clap ‘multi instr’ without putting it on the maschine instrument and affecting all 3 sounds ?
You could add it directly on that pad in maschine or you can route the audio into logic and add fx in logic.
Nice one knock got everything working fine in logic Thanks. My ? is how do you break out say your drum pattern so it will have a mix channel for the kicks a mix channel for the snares and so fourth. Right now its all on one mix channel but I would like to mix it a little better with its own channels. Thanks Fam
Hi Guys,
i love the site so much i keep coming back. I am trying to connect Maschine and logic as in the video.
I’m stuck at the equipment page. There is no Maschine in the mixer. Even when I connect maschine to a midi instrument channel.
From reading the comments I have the wrong template. I am using Maschine as the mackie controller. I read that folk above are using a different template, the group E template info I’ve no idea about. I’ve looked for videos on this but I’ve not found anything.
Could you help me?
When you hit the Group E button look on the Maschine controller and it should just say TEMPLATE in the view window. You may want to try the arrow button to scroll through it if it is not visible at that time. As Far as equipment you must hit the I/O button in logic to insert maschine as a plugin. When you hit the I/O button go to native instrument, Maschine, 16 Stereo out version and that should do it…
Yep…what Brick said 😉

Brick..whats up man…. did you see this vid https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-in-logic-pro-tracking-out-audio-in-real-time/
See if thats what you are looking for… if not..let me know
That’s what I’m looking to be able to do but I have Maschine loaded as a plugin like you did in this video. When you play the pads on maschine say group A you create one midi track. So when I create my drum track say kicks, snare and hi hat it’s all on one midi channel combined together. Is there a way I can explode that and have each drum sound on it’s own mix channel for better mixing and eqing. hope that makes sense bro. Thanks…
Magic video, thanks.
I have a question about mixing once all your tracks are recorded in midi into logic. I am a midi idiot just for the record…
When I turn one of my 6 midi channels up or down it also drags the ‘master’ fader volume for the Maschine channel strip. This makes mixing the recorded midi near impossible. I need to have control of each midi channel separately, independent of the master maschine fader. I’m guessing it’s a setting in Logic not machine but any advice or help would be great.
Cheers.
for mixing in Logic you will probably want to also route the sounds to their own audio track/channel and not just the midi, then you will have more control over the sound.
Nice one, thanks.
Hi,
I’m trying this on Maschine Mikro MK2 with Logic pro X but having no luck. Any suggestions?
This works the same on any Maschine as the software is all the same. Exactly what part isn’t working for you, so we can figure out the step you need to take to get it going 🙂
I think we require a Logic Pro X vid down the line. Track stacks?
I think Knock will be picking up Logic X so some videos will most likely follow 🙂
Hey Guys I’ve been using Machine with Logic for a few years now and have always resorted to writing my drums in Maschine, then drag and dropping the audio of each individual part from Maschine into Logic for further mixing and arrangement. I have found though I am stuck with my initial drum arrangement and when i want to add extra parts on top i then have to go back into Maschine, write the part then drag and drop it into Logic, which does interrupt the work flow. So being able to write directly into the DAW is useful. However… Read more »
Unfortunately that’s one of the drawbacks, you loose total control over Maschine when you put it in MIDI mode.
hey i was wondering if it was possible to make a new video on logic pro x and machine studio 2. i just started using logic and machine. converting from fl studio, and one thing i hate about logic is the ultrabeat thing, i hate how it looks how hard it is to add my own samples (kicks snares etc) and one thing i hate about machine is the arranger, so i want to be able to sequence my sounds from machine into logic via midi while having the sounds come into logic mixer. (ps if i add an fx… Read more »
You can’t use note repeat and other Maschine functions when recording MIDI into Logic because you have to put Maschine cotnroller into “MIDI mode” which doesn’t have access to all the same parameters of regular Maschine mode. If you want to use note repeat and others it would be easier to do that in Maschine then drag it into Logic. Did you watch the newer video for Midi in Logic with 2.0? https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-midi-sequencing-in-logic-pro-x-with-maschine-studio/
Hi Knocksquared and Saintjoe, I succeeded in setting up Maschine 2 as a plug in, in Logic Pro 9. Al sequencing stays in Maschine 2 while syncing with a Movie loaded in Logic Pro. Aim is to create a sound track for this video. I think I got a workflow that kind of works, not perfect but ok. So now for my question. The light quide on the S88 works in Maschine 2 and works if I use Komplete Kontrol as a plug in, in Logic Pro, but it does not work with the Machine 2 plug in. Can this… Read more »
It will work if you “tie it” to the Maschine plugin. So in the plugin, once you’re focused on the Maschine track, click the little keyboard icon in Maschine at the top to switch it from Komplete Kontrol to controlling Maschine.
Wow Thanks I love this place 🙂 I can try tomorrow.
Next to the multi track set up, a 1 track set up in Logic Pro seemed to be enough for my needs. New empty project, 1 track, Maschine 2 as a plug in, Set Midi to Notes, open Movie in Logic Pro, create a scene with the length of the movie.. That worked. Is there a catch? Multi track set up with track per sound and every sound in Maschine a different midi channel a better idea? I/m not arranging in Logic. all in Maschine. Thanks!
For multi track you would need to enable midi input for individual channels and route a midi channel to Maschine only on the individual channel you want to trigger. So for the input on each sound, you’d have to enable MIDI and give it a channel. If you’re using them all in one group you can right click on the group and select “sounds to MIDI channels” to give each pad it’s own channel. Just remember that you only have 16 MIDI channels in total.
I’m struggling because of my lack of Midi knowledge. I’m asking myself if a multi track set up is necessary. It looks like the one track is sufficient when Logic only syncs to video and Maschine does all the work, but I might be missing the point completely
Yeah, for what you’re doing I’m not sure multi track is needed, however, it will not hurt to try it and see if you like it or not 🙂
Thanks Saintjoe! Maybe a hard one to answer, but we thought to be in luck having a Logic Pro 9 in the Apple Store purchased some years ago. Do you think we should buy Logic Pro X anyway? If it means less stress on the CPU, more stability, better connectivity with Maschine 2 and so one, we would buy. But all the functions we are using are available in 9. I did notice that a somewhat larger movie file is unworkable in Logic Pro 9, but that could be a quicktime issue that remains in Logic Pro X. Any view… Read more »
No problem. I’m not a Logic guy so I don’t know what has changed between the versions, but if you can do everything you need to do already I’d say probably no need to change. I’m not sure about any improvements to the internal routing that would make it smoother to work with Maschine, the setup seems to be the same in 9 and X from what I can tell…but again, I’m just watching the same videos you are as I don’t own Logic 🙂
