This is part two in the Maschine in your Daw series.
In this one I get into how to setup the midi routing properly so it can be recorded into your daw instead of maschine
This is where it all comes together and where the flexibility happens, because now you can sequence in your favorite daw and have all the options for arranging, etc, that you have in your daw.
If you like to make tracks in a linear fashion, playing everything out, you can do that, if you want to arrange things differently, you can do that.
Basically this lets you use Maschine like a sound module, bypassing it’s sequencer.

ahhhhhhhh hahahahahahahahahaha yooooo your the freakin man bro…………..need more input!!!! haha OFF TO TRAIN
This should work for ya in Logic fam 🙂
Much respect and good looks big time man
i have a ?, how come i can only see some of the (vst’s? that may not be the right name but i don’t know what to call them) in my maschine? like when i use scarbee funk guitarist i don’t see anything in maschine interface?
You can open the interface if you want to edit it, click on the plugin name or the little arrorw to the right of that section.
Thanks SJ. That was quick. I think I speak for everybody, we appreciate your hard work and fast responses time man. Well I guess I’ll put the ski mask back in closet. LOL
Visions of ice cream trucks fam…. lol
haha….
Yeah man Ya gotta love this !!! Good JoB SJ !!! So much to learn with this great maschine !!
Will follow up with an audio routing one, and some more daw specific ones, because some let you send midi while in maschine mode 😉
i’m trying to get this to work in live… I can only get it to work on the first maschine group though…
check this one out bro
https://maschinetutorials.com/recording-midi-from-maschine-into-ableton-live-sequencer
I will also do another updated one for Live using this method.
This partially works for me in ableton, I couldnt get the controller to respond in controller mode. I think I may have set up the controller mapping wrong…
Make sure you have it setup properly in the Ableton Midi settings too. It needs to be turned on as a midi input device.
saint joe! i can’t get my sounds to be heard in midi controller mode in ableton? can you help me get it setup?
i repeated the controller template exactly as is and was sure i did the group to midi notes, and then opened the vst in ableton and couldn’t get any sound in midi controller mode??
Make sure you also turn on the midi input for the group you want to trigger
ok i’m confused by that, it’s probably real simple and maybe i’ve already done that but i’m not sure what you mean, can you explain a lil more? thanks!
i deleted all the other pads, just have group a, it’s at c3 as intended, i’m in maschine 2.1, selected in the maschine track in ableton the midi controller, aka maschine mkII…
if you mean arm it, i did that as well…
Like this https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-midi-drag-and-drop-in-ableton-live-9/
Each group or sound has an input tab, for the group you want it to be turned on, with a root note, and whatever midi channel you want to use. Then to trigger it you would send a midi channel to it or trigger it directly on that channel by arming it and having your controller in midi mode sending the proper notes.
oh ok i’ll take a look but u were referring to turning the midi input on in maschine then? correct?
The actual group within Maschine needs to be enabled for Midi input.
that i follow and did in maschine but still have no luck in ableton, i know i’m getting close!
email me a picture of what you have setup in ableton help@MaschineTutorials.com
ok, do you need a midi track in ableton to be able to play the sounds like you are playing in maschine mode?
it looks like in the video, you upload the maschine track inside of daw, set mk2 as the controller, set it to channel 1, hit sounds to midi notes, enable the midi button, “active,” is what i found, and wa la, should be playing sounds thru the midi control mode right?
Yes! Now I can use Maschine fully in my DAW when I wanna add something real quick.. I like how u can still have full control over it in “Maschine Mode”, but then switch to MIDI mode to sequence it in my DAW..
Genius
trying his in logic but having a problem. I get my first group to work ok but the second is acting up. Soon as I go into midi controller mode after loading a maschine kit in group b the drums play one drum sound at higher pitches accross my pads.
I see midi activity in logic but none in maschine.
What I am doing wrong here. Please help
good luck tiko……iv been at it all day in logic 9 pro….and im still at it right now……….logic sux when it comes to routing…..or i suck and dont no what im doing
Ignore my message above. Figured it out. Shout have created new track with same channel strip/instrument
sorry I meant to say create track with next midi channel
i have everything set up right but im still not getting any sound on the playback!!!!!! starting to turn green…….and rip out of my clothes
Thats funny Incredible Hulk
@Fadayz – Did you figure out yet? If not make sure your inspector view is active. This where you chose the midi channel to receive midi from in logic. Also go to you environment window by pressing F8 on your keyboard. Then select clicks and ports from the drop down on the left. This allows you set your input ports. You can use the sum option if you have several controllers but if you only use machine you drag a cable from midi input port for maschine to the keyboard icon. Press your pads in midi control mode on machine… Read more »
ok so i tryed this and got the same thing….one key @ a time…..is that right or should i be able to str8 go crazy on maschine and logic should rec. every sound?
I got logic open… got maschine in controller mode and each pad plays a different sound just like when i have it in maschine mode. Is this what you are trying to do?
yeeeees sir…..but i want to just go…..not tape one key at a time on my mpk
@Saint Joe, I got those primo sounds too. thats what I am testing this with. The sounds are sick.
Did you merge the all in one folder when you got the three separate parts
I have the actual disc so it came with all the sounds together, they are dope for sure! I love eQuipped music libraries been using them for years since they were elab!
Quick question SJ
If I change the midi batch setup channel to 2 in my new group why does my first midi channel revert back to channel channel 2 when i previously set it to to 1
Don’t worry bout this, it’s a cosmetic flaw, the channels actually remain the same as to what you set them to but the interface only shows the last one you set whenever you open that panel, we’ve reported this a while ago so it’s a known issue but doesn’t effect the midi routing.
wuz good peoples……im still hard at work over here using what saint joe and tiko ran by me…..and sstill i cant get maschine to run str8 into logic and record sound…………….stuck ona island!!!!!!!! S.O.S ina sand
you are trying to do what SJ did in the vid right? Have maschine in control mode and hit the pad to play the actual maschine AU thats loaded in logic?
yes…but you have to do like 10 more steps in logic…….not happy at all…..is there a program close to logic that i can get to work it better….it seems only logic has this issue. i got reason but nooooo idea how to use it yet haha
hmmmm thats odd….it took me like 10 seconds to get it working… no 10 steps involved.
Go to Reaper.fm and download REAPER, has always been less headaches for me!
And is a good, stable, and lightweight DAW that has a lot of features
Do the pads feel different in midi controller mode. Almost feels like the sensitivity varies?
yes…..i have the same issue
Yes, I just adjust my settings, i do think there is a little bit of sensitivity changing, like anything you just have to figure out what’s different and play accordingly, I just had to get used to it.
The sluggish pad reaction was down to ADSR. Once i messed with my release, It was all dandy. Only had the maschine a week so still trying to figure what is doing what.
Cool, I usually have mine set to one shot so didn’t experience the same thing, I was speaking more on the pad sensitivity in relation to velocity 🙂
Hey Knock- Fadayz is trying to work with maschine in midi controller mode. just as SJ did in the vid
I am triggering the sounds but see my midi notes are cutting each other off. Still testing
when i get it to record its super slow motion…not up to speed at all……hey tiko and knock….may i ask what you two did to point maschine to logic?
you dont have logic opened up in standalone mode do you?
that i do….is that wrong? thought the were both post to be in stand alone……..wait! is this the past when i getta pie thrown in my face?
open maschine up as a plug in. then after adjusting sound to midi like SJ did in vid..evey pad you hit will control that sound thats on maschines pads
trynin that now……by the way good looks to everyone………being the rookie in here aint eazy at all haha i need to catch up
Knock, do me a favor and please check if this happens to you
If I change the midi batch setup channel to 2 in my new group why does my first midi channel revert back to channel channel 2 when i previously set it to to 1
My pads react sluggishly in midi mode is that midi data clashing?
You shouldn’t have a sluggish reaction at all, I don’t have logic to test but it shouldn’t be, unless you have some quantize in logic working behind the scenes or there’s a midi buffer thing going on.
got it! been at this all day and it was worth every sec…….good looks saint joe…..tiko and knock……..man this is the place to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!
it is now my turn to kill sheep…………i will be back 2m to get on you guys nerves once again haha (300) thnx fellaz
LOL…its after 2 am here…im about to crash. Tomorrow I am going to explore Logics Environment section. From what I heard learning Logics environment section is the key to opening up things you never knew it could do. Maybe I can find some other way to use maschine with it.
Hey Knock I”m new to all this can you do a vid like SJ did but for mac and logic heads. Would appreciate it if you can. Cuz Im having problems getting this to work in logic also. Probably cuz I’m still fresh behind the ears. LOL.
2am. its 6am here in the uk .See you all 2mor.peace
Did u get that lag worked out bro?
peace
Glad this helped everyone!!! I wanted to show a way that you could use no matter what daw you had 🙂
Have fun!
So thankful for this vid man…….it took me the whole day but I got it finally witda help of u 3 and my brother…….felt like I was at the hot gates for a min.
Very cool can’t wait for more!
I still have a question peeps. So if you use this work flow will I be able to effects in logic. I ask because this system means I am only using one instance of the Maschine plugin and if I go to the mixer I only see one mixer channel. meaning I have multiple miidi tracks but 1 mixer channel.
you can setup multiple audio routing in your daw from maschine, that will be covered in part 3 🙂
ahhaa! Love it. cuz I am looking at machine and wondering why on earth are all outputs single outs. Can’t wait
Thanks SJ
Yeah you have 16 stereo outputs now, you can route them in your daw as you like, previously we had 8 stereo outputs.
Hey SJ, are you going to do a vid on working in Mashcine then tracking your groups and sound out to your Daw using the outputs like the Mpc days? I think this is a great way to work with the Daw but I like to do everything in Maschine and then track it out to Pro tools. Let me know, thanks.
Part 3 will show audio routing, which works in any situation where you want to route the audio into your daw using separate tracks/outputs.
Cant’t wait! Thanks.
I got another pie ina face question…….when u open logic 9o pro with maschine as a plug in……and the maschine face shows up and the logic face dont……how do I get the logic face to pop up?
Not sure what you mean, but you can just close the maschine plugin, it shouldn’t be bigger than logic though, it should just be a window floating inside of logic.
Keep in mind ima rookie…so when I break it down its gonna sound like a kid talkin bout this haha…..I did what u said…and started a beats but when I went to open it 2day…the maschine ina face opened and the logic’s dident but it will play what I started…..and open logic prefrences
where did you open it from? Logic or Maschine? It should be a logic project that you’re opening. Make sure logic isn’t minimized. I don’t use logic so not sure, I don’t even know how you can have the maschine plugin open and not have logic open lol.
I opened the file and the both opened but the logic screen won’t come up….only maschine……funny thing is I can access all of logic but not the recording screen
it will even play the beat haha madness
Open logic directly, then open your project from within logic
Yup…opened logic…the opened the projected but the logic interface dident show up at all
Got it….. it was in the windows arrange……pie in the face
Yeah I was gonna say whenever this happes just press one of the numbers …like press the number “1” and it should bring up whatever window is set to that number. I can relate because say for instance right before you saved you accidentally pressed (for example the number 5) and number 5 happens to be a screen that doesnt have the recording environment..but just the plug-ins . You could get confused …when its just a simple thing that logic is showing the window it thought you wanted. Not a rookie mistake bro… happened to me also…lol
Good looks bro. And when u go throw one of ya beats up on here…….that tease….was dope bout I know u and knock r monsters…..let’s. Hear it………
Good looks again for this site bro
lol, I throw my beats up in the vids 🙂 Glad you like the site fam, we just trying to keep it growing and keep adding more stuff to help folks
In Live’s settings, I have turned the Maschine input on, I receive midi data when I push any button on the controller, I can even map the some of the controls to it, but I just cant get my pads to respond, I also have an axiom keyboard controller that does respond to my maschine but the only part im still missing is the actual pads to provide sounds…
Did you create the template like I said in the first part?
I like how you have this setup. It’s gonna be very useful once I’m up and running again.
word fam, can’t wait to see ya back man!
Yes I did SaintJoe… Weird part is, when I have the template “On”, I could map the pads (through live’s midi edit) to do other things such as activate clips.
One question, when you are inside of maschines controller editor, how do you save the template once you are done setting it up? maybe I saved it wrong?
no special way, it actually saves it automatically but I usually do a save as then delete the second one it makes.
which version of live are you using? I’m using live 7, actually in live you dont’ even have to do it like this, you can do it like the video I posted previously, but I will do another vid on live because it should be working for you. Make sure you are setting the midi inputs on the track properly as well.
I’m on live 8.2, this is odd, ill keep messing w it… good looking for the advice!
Aight bro, you gonna make me purchase the upgrade now just so I can see whasup! lol
you’re eeeeeeviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil lol ahahahaha
lemme know man!
HAHA you should check the 8 free demo!
I even downloaded the template you posted and got the same result.
