can you guys put a video up for LOGIC PRO?
I Think Saint Joe is a PC guy. Maybe Knock might be able to help cus he uses a Mac I believe. Not sure if he uses logic but it might be worth asking him.
Yep, I’m straight PC, for sure lol, will see what we can do about Logic
I have a mac and can’t figure this out at all 🙁 Any specific steps for a mac?
Also to note I have what I think is a similar setup except where it says Audio to: there is no option for master :-\
On a mac you would use Maschine’s virtual midi output, make sure it’s turned on as an input inside of Live. All audio is handled inside of Live. However this is really obsolete with the latest version of Maschine, since we can host plugins. But if it’s a Live exclusive plugin then you may still want to use this method.
I prefer to use Maschine standalone vs a VST. My ideal solution would be able to use Maschine standalone and route audio to one of Live’s channels using Live as a sequencer, is this the best solution for that?
This video is about using midi from Maschine to play plugins that are in live, not about routing audio or using Maschine as a plugin. Only way to route audio into Live’s channels is by loading Maschine as a plugin after you’re done making your track. So make your track in Maschine, then load it into Live as a vst and route the audio channels. I don’t use it as a plugin either, I’m all standalone. YOu could try JackOSX or Soundflower to route from standalone Maschine into Live, I don’t have any experience with that as I’m on a… Read more »
Cool. I’ll look into a JackOSX setup. If I figure it out I’ll send you info on how I got it working. Thanks for the heads up dude!
Yeah, I know you can do it with JackOSX I believe you can make as many outputs as you want, then you’d just enable those outputs in Live as inputs and enable them in Maschine as outputs and it should work. I just don’t have it as Jack on windows is horrible lol.
What I’m going to try to do tonight is route audio from Maschine to one of my soundcard’s outputs. Then with a cable link that output to one of my soundcard’s inputs. Then in live on one of my channels have it listen to audio from that input. After that I’ll try and midi clock sync Maschine and Live via a hardware midi device and midi cable. Hope it works! lol
Yeah, that’ll work, I just thought you wanted to have multiple outputs from Maschine into Live.
Are you trying to do it with a finished track in Maschine that you want to record into Live? If you already have the track done, again, it may be easier to load Maschine as a plugin and just record the output.
I don’t use Maschine as a plugin to make the track, but I know many that load it as a plugin to record the finished product into their daw.
Essentially I just want to create loops in Maschine and then record them into Live. I also use other VST’s in Live but prefer Maschine when creating drums loops. I use Live to compile loops into tracks. Also performance wise I want to use Maschine with Ableton Live and figured this would be a great way to do it. It would be awesome to be able to launch drum loops and anything else loaded into Maschine with stuff I have in Live and all in sync.
Got ya, why not just drag the audio from maschine into Live? Like drag the loops instead of recording them? It’s really quick.

I’ll check that out, thanks dude!
No problem!
Alright so…I have a midi cord from my out in Maschine to my In in my soundcard. How do I set it up to drag and drop into ableton? I can’t figure this out for the life of me :-\
you don’t need the midi cable, watch this video
https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-drag-and-drop-audio-or-midi-from-maschine
You want to drag the audio loops, so you can mix them with your vsts in LIve, instead of trying to record the audio in real time.
Missed the step where I had to keep the mouse button pressed lol
Lol, it’s all good fam!
sorry if the following is a dumb question; ableton is not a vst, I can’t turn it on like a vst… with maschine in standalone mode, how do you turn on ableton as a vst rack? you don’t mention anything regarding this in your video. i understand how to set it up, so that it works the way you’re describing it to be, but I don’t know how to turn on ableton with maschine in standalone mode. i’m using one soundcard only, so both in standalone doesn’t work, they can’t share the same drivers. please help!
I actually explain the entire setup in the video. But if your soundcard can’t use multiple apps at once, it won’t work. You could try to download the asio multi client driver, or you could use the rewire vst, since ableton can load as a rewire slave.
I’ll try the asio multi client driver… Can you recommend a rewire vst just in case? Thanks.
there’s only one, it’s called rewire vst, made by energy-xt
This basically became unecessary after the 1.6, right? Except for Ableton Exclusive instruments.
Yep, I did this back in the day because I couldn’t use plugins in Maschine lol…remember that? Daaaaaaaang it seems like ages ago lol
I have a mac and your right it comes with an virtual midi out. I have one problem. when you assign a plugin say massive to a midi track and play your performance, How do you go back and tweak the sounds after you assign it in Ableton, for instance messing with the oscillators It refuses to reopen. I love this workflow, I have been trying to implement this for years. Now i can play my guitar live in Ableton using guitar rig and looper while i make my sequence without sampling into maschine through effects. This solves all my… Read more »
You should be able to open it as normal. down in the device area, there is a little “wrench” icon that opens the plugin editor.
you can also do a ctrl+alt+p (on windows) to show it, I think it would be cmd+alt+p on mac?
really loving this serie of tuts !!
thanks !
Pieter
good news!
I like this work flow, I’m gonna finally start using Ableton Live, only question I had was with regards to the tempo.
I noticed that the tempo in Live get jumping around? and it wasn’t staying set at the same tempo as Maschine….
Why is that?
That’s just how it is when using the midi clock between them. You can load plugins inside of Maschine now so no need to do it this way if you don’t want. Or you can load Maschine as a plugin inside of Ableton. You can also just use midi between the two and not worry about syncing the clock…really depends on what you want to do.
