This is a follow up to the tutorial on how to use Reason as a plugin in Maschine.
This shows how to set it up so that it triggers the KONG drum machine properly, by default the pads don’t line up right and Maschine will trigger the same drum on 3 pads in a row!
this tutorial shows you which settings you need to make the 16 pads line up with the 16 pads in KONG when you put maschine in keyboard mode.
any questions, feel free to ask!

Joe Knows! Man this is huge for me! I was a big Reason guy B4 Maschine…I upgraded to Reason 5 B4 I Got Maschine, and I haven’t really messed with it in a while..Just the other day I was thinking about converting all my reason sounds to Kontact…..Man u saved me a ton off work! I just told another producer about this and he is pissed because he just converted all of his reason library to Kontact which took him about 2 week to do…Lol..Thanks Man!
Word lol, I just sent my “price match request” to zzounds, bout to get Reason 5, I never liked the Reason sequencer, but now, with this, I will use it as a plugin/module. Awwwww yeah lol.
Uh Ohhh let me find out we got a Reason Convert !!! SJ I can hear it in your voice… you hooked !!
Dope vid also !! Man I love how you figure stuff out Fam… The AUDIO SENSAI !!!!
Lol, ahahaha, we’ll see man, it may be a new sound module for me lol.
Never thought I would be using Ableton as a Plugin…Wow! This Maschine thing is incredible…
I know huh? lol
That’s pretty cool! How’s it gonna work for quantizing your beats though. Will you have as much control as you would if you were using Maschines sounds just normally?
works exactly the same as any other sound/plugin, your midi data is all recorded into maschine, so it uses maschine’s quantizing, etc, if you choose.
I’m gettin Reason 5 and that VST rewire plug now for sure! I used too use Reason 4 as well but never dug the sequencer and a few other things about it but liked the sounds usually. Now with the Octorex thing you should be able to come up with some pretty sweet rewired loops to colour things up on your tracks. More cool tools! Awesome! Maschine is like the new center piece for everything DAW 😉
word man! yeah, I was never a fan of Reason at all, that sequencer didn’t do it for me, but the thought of using it as a module…that makes sense to me!
I just wish maschine let us use multi channel plugins, or at least that the rewire vst let us use multiple instances, but it’s all good, with how quick it is to resample somethign inside maschine, it’s all good!
Absolutely all good we have a ton of options with Mashine, just some time stretching (I’ll shut up about that lol) would be cool but with all these crazy tutorials new doors open up daily! You guys Kick it!
right man, just try to find the goodies man! thanks for the support!
Yeah Mr. Saintjoe!!! My dude Mr, Miyagi!!! You are a blessing fam!!! I used to use Reason also, actually completed some dope projects with it, but when I got Maschine, Reason got the deuces. However, that puppy will be used as a sound module cause regardless of what cat’s say Reason does have some dope sounds both organic and future sounds not to mention the third party refills that are available. Possibilities seems endless with Maschine and the way it intergrates with what you already have is super sic!!!
Ha, that’s whasup yo, I feel ya man, yeah, just love finding new ways to work, Maschine is that joint son!
I just finished my new DAW setup so I was already feeling good, but this just makes my week. Reason 2.5 was my jumpoff 6 years ago and being an 80’s/90’s dude the hardware metaphor clicked perfectly with me. Even back then I never liked it’s fiddly little sequencer (Although I’m probably faster on it than any other program lol), but the routing options and things you can think up in it are to this day bananas (Combinators/Spiders etc.). I think a lot of people would enjoy Kong into Maschine especially for it’s layering functions, with all the gripes about… Read more »
Word, heard you got a mac son, keep me posted on that! yeah, I know about kickback son, will definitely be checking him out if I pick up a copy of Reason. Hadn’t heard of the other one so thanks!
Hey SJ,
Is it possible to change your octaves when in midi controller mode?
Dont worry about it SJ. mapped the pads from the controller editor
Yeah, just have to map it, by default the group buttons change octaves for you or you can map them to the exact notes you want
I mapped them to the notes. Thanks Fam
I can now bang the Kong drums with Maschine Pads in Logic.
Is there a way to map that note repeat button in a Daw?
no doubt, no, note repeat isn’t a midi function, only works with Maschine sequencer.
My current music production workflow is as follows. Make the entire beat on Reason 4(reverb, distortion, delay, maximizer, stereo imager). Re-Wire to Ableton. Get all individuals tracks in Ableton. Do all my vocals, filter sweeps, sidechaining, etc on ableton. Mix in Ableton. I bought maschine, I made like 5-10 beats the first two days i bought it. After that playing with the fun new toy, went back to Reason and Ableton. leaving maschine collect dusts. Hence, I cant wait to get home and watch this video. Although I do not have Kong(still on Reason 4), i hope i can use… Read more »

Nepals Best in the Building !!!
Yo Joe!
There is a better way of trigging Maschine when using Reason with out having to rewire.
There is a template
rewire let’s your record the audio directly into Maschine, that’s the point, this isn’t just about triggering the sounds 🙂
So I wouldn’t call the template a “better” way, just a different way for a different workflow.
This is for people who always ask “how can I use Reason sounds in Maschine”
this allows people to use rewire even though Maschine doesn’t have rewire.
