Yo what’s good MT Fam! In this tutorial I just wanted to share the workflow and process I use when sequencing external synths with Maschine.
I really dig sync sampling and Maschine actually made me want to get back into hardware synths just because of how easy it is to use them with Maschine.
I show how I like to setup my group, midi outputs, input modules, and re-sample my synths into my track on the fly

man you got some nice sounds coming out of that Box.. 🙂 Nice video! u going to make me go out get some external gear now… Just when I got my setup compact, here u come with this…U killing me..LOL!
I was the same way, but Maschine just brings a lot of the fun back lol.
WOW, this is great man, I wish I saw this a few months ago LOL
May sqeeze in some fun with my sound module before I sell’em.
Great vid!!
No doubt fam 🙂
Nice Video Sir. Now I’m going to really utilize the Alesis I/O dock.
Yessir! This is the exact way I plan to use the iPad when I get it, just like an external synth. Dopeness!
That’s dope! I need an Alesis I/O dock now. lol
I can do this with my MP7 in the same way, yes? 😀
Yessir! Anything external you can hook up to your computer will work like this. As long as you get the audio to your interface, you’re good. 🙂
I think I’m gonna look into this. That Ghost Dog had me pumped! lol
Hahahahahaha, no doubt lol
I was just thinkin on how to imcorprate a ipad with maschine and guess this is the set up to use, cant wait to see ipad demos with maschine when u get one SJ LOL
I know man lol hahaha, but yeah, I plan to use it the same exact way as hardware.
nice video. Can I use this method if i’m using an extenal synth thats playing more than one sound at the same time? I’m thinking about getting the jupiter 80 and that has layers of sounds in a perfromance
Yes, it will capture whatever is coming out of your synth. You can use multiple midi out modules if you want to use more than one channel at a time, then just solo the one you want to resample and sample it the same way.

cool thanks.
No problem fam, glad to help.
man this is dope…. SJ you can even apply that multi-track vid i did to this. so as soon as you sample the sound it will play automatically. this vid is hot… definitely making me amped to get some hardware AND that ipad
Yeah, that’s what I meant when I said you can just draw it in so it plays automatically 🙂
Yeah man, I want to use the iPad synths just like this
“Yeah, that’s what I meant when I said you can just draw it in so it plays automatically :)”
DOH!!!! sorry….lol…true indeed !!
Hahahahahaha lol, all good brotha 🙂
Hey SJ,
I tried the method. Everything seems fine but i notice my recordings volume plays much lower than what i recorded in. I also notice a loss of sound quality. Any advice?
thanks
That’s gonna be down to your interface and how it converts your sound. Also you can turn up the input volume or use normalize to bring your levels up, but this method will definitely show you what your interface is made of. I would imagine a little quality loss would be normal unless you have a really high end converter.
WELL WELL WELL.
All I can say is this is a fantastic opportunity to hold onto my motif rack.
Nice SJ
Yes, most definitely would hold onto it. I think it’s a good idea to keep at least one “bread and butter” module or workstation of some sort 🙂
DOPE DOPE DOPE! Excellent vid, joe!
Cool fam, glad ya dig it 🙂
what keyboard is that sj
have you used the nocturn 49 anygood?
I have not, but I’m sure it’s good, novation makes good controllers.
cheers sj got 1 for xmas my girls getting me one whoooo.
Nice man! You’ll enjoy it!
Very cool. Thanks for posting this one.
I caught the hardware bug pretty bad too when I realized what Maschine was capable of.
Indeed, I had sold all my hardware before I got Maschine, once I got it, made me want to get more hardware.
I Need My Taxes Money Back
Hahaha, I feel that fam
Dope Video just what i needed to work my fantom X8 in the mix! now how do i edit my avatar XD???
Yes indeed, get it in!
for avatar

Oh snap!! Got so caught up in the IPad I forgot about my Fantom X6.
Break that thang out bruh!
Lol…dust it off homie!
interesting kid, although all my synths are soft I still like this!! I was never big on hardware except for the MPC. I see you like using the best of both worlds I feel you on that though. I don’t even wanna do the hardware synths vs soft synths debate because it’s all about what works for you!! Me I’m all software these days!!
No doubt fam. I went all software after being all hardware for a long time, I found a happy medium, no debates needed, rock what ya rock lol.
Man those modules are dope, which one do you like better? Do they both have the same kinds of sounds? Im really gonna try to get one stat cause I think there dope!
They compliment each other well, I got the mopho first, it’s a mono synth, 1 sound at a time, 100% analog so it’s faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. The blofeld is not mono, so I can use it for pads and chords, that’s why I got it, it has a lot of waveforms to build from and it can also sound fat, but different. If I had to choose one, it would be the mopho, but I’d love to have one of the other dave smith instruments that are not mono, which I probably will. That said, I dig the blofeld too but it’s… Read more »
Dope!!!!
Yes brotha, don’t get rid of all them hardware goodies just yet…unless you need a foster home for them out in KS 😉
hi SJ
I have a roland tb 303 which is pre midi i can sample using detect but not in sync mode to record a bar etc is there anyway around this ?
cheers
g
You can still sample it using sync mode, what you would do is record it like it was a live instrument. So set maschine to sync for however many bars you want, then start your count in, as soon as the count in is over, it will start sampling for you 🙂
This is also a great way to record guitar, vocals, and anything else that you don’t want to use midi on. I even do it with my synths sometimes as well.
i set it but it doesnt start recording theres a signal but it just says waiting??
Did you start the sequencer? Make a 4 bar pattern (or however long you want it to be) and start the sequencer from the count in (press shift+rec)
ahh ha thanks SJ you the man – i also had to din sync it to my 707 to get the tempo that way when putting it into a patern i can drop it straight in no need to external time stretch etc
Cool, glad you got it going man!
Hey I hae to ask do you still like the Mopho? I am thinking about getting one and I know you have had it for a while want to know it you still think it’s still good.
Yeah man it’s a cool mono synth, wish I had the tetra or prophet though I be wishing for more voices, it’s an awesome synth
I have never had a hardware synth do you think this would be a good one to start with?
You may want to get something like the mini brute or the mini nova
I get brain freeze when it comes to configuring midi. I have a Korg MS2K rack which I’m trying to integrate – just like you have with the Mopho. My controller keyboard is a KorgKontrol, which is connected to the midi in on the Korg MS2K.
Any pointers on how I can control the MSK2 from Maschine? This vid whizzed through that part a bit fast.
I have this set-up in Cubase – but can’t figure out the connections with Mschine)
Hook your synths midi in to midi out from machine or your interface. Then you use the midi out module to send midi out on whatever channel your synth is hooked to.
Heads up on a broken link! 😉
Nope it works! Douhhh! 🙂
Hahahaha 🙂
Hi bro, I just leave the maschine 1.8 to 2.0 for the new midi implementation but I can´t record my ccmidi parameters from my external midi synths to the maschine. I can´t do any automatization like cut off, resonance… any idea?
Thx
automation will only be recorded from maschine’s knobs
So, could I build a macro for sending the ccparameters to my externa synths??? It would be great, but I don´t know how to do it 🙂 Have you any reference abou this on the web?
Thankyou very much in advance.
Unfortunately we can’t build macros for midi out devices just yet, but it’s something many of us are hoping for. You can assign parameters in the bottom automation lane to different ccs numbers and draw in your automation that way.
Just like I am working , it´s a shame that N.I. Team didn´t fix a real midi implementation yet, because at the end if we want to have total control on our vintage synths, we need continue working with another daws using maschine like a plugging or slave. TEDIOUS
So anywere, thanks a lot.
Yeah, I would love to see macros at the midi out level, as well as being able to do bank/program changes for external synths and storing that withing the project.
