Yo what’s good fam! I’ve been promising the fam I would do some videos showing how I work with external modules and devices in Maschine.
Maschine actually had me looking into hardware after I got it because it’s really easy to sequence and resample external gear.
In this tutorial I show the process using the Beat Thang hardware drum machine/sampler.
I explain the midi connection, how to set Maschine so you can monitor your hardware sounds at all times, and how to resample them perfectly using sync sample.
check it out!

Maaan, that opens up a new playing field for me. So I can pull my MP and proteus Tracks right into Maschine with this method?
Yeah….well if you just want to pull the tracks in, you could.
Just set them to be synced to midi, then when you hit play in maschine it will start the mp or whatever and using sync sampling you can set the number of bars.
I may do a video showing how to “dump” old tracks from hardware into Maschine.
that would be great! I think more on the hardwired combo is a winner, being a lot cats convert with Maschine.
Yeah…if you noticed how I named this one, it sorta sets it up for future versions 🙂
That’s why I named it like that, instead of just “maschine sequencing beat thang” so now I can add onto the series with different focus.
I’ve been doing that a lot lately, helps with future search/organization and such. LOL
I’ll probably do one with the mp7 and with the proteus 2k.
Yeah good idea on titling on the vid post. Can’t wait for move vids in this series.
Bro, I had NO hardware when I got Maschine, once I learned how quick it was at sampling, I was interested in hardware again. It’s so quick to use, the headaches of “tracking out” are really non existing, I can really do it fast like it was realtime sampling. Just sampling a bunch of loops after I make them, quick. More to come.
+1
i want to see some dumpage! lol
When i set mines to internal….The only option I have is Master, Group A and Group B….I saw this video and decided to incorporate my motif rack in my setup….This video was the deciding factor on me keeping my motif….
Thanks man….
Glad to help fam!!
ok, i was able to found the input option by setting the track im sampling to.. to input, but i still cant get it to sample the sound in maschine..
OK, so you need an input as the “input jack” from your hardware, but you also need to go to a new pad and go to sampling then you can select the input to sample. So you’ll always need the input channel so you can sequence and hear the hardware, when you want to sample, go to a new pad, go into sampling, then set it to internal and choose the input. You can rename the input to “hardware” if you want, to make it easier.
Gotcha…….This just to my creativity to another level…..Much Luv Saintjoe….
No doubt fam, it’s really a quick way to work with external gear, as I said above, Maschine made me want more external gear because it’s so quick to get it into maschine in sync. Have fun with it man and share your workflow with the fam 🙂
how can I do a dump from my MP and modules. If I put the midi out from Maschine into the IN in my proteus I don’t have an in for my MP to sequence the proteus if that makes sense.
Is it a different setting for being the Mp needs to sequence the tracks into Maschine.
well, if you have midi OUT of Maschine, you still have a midi OUT to go from mp to proteus, and you also have another midi OUT to go back into Maschine if you want.
Are trying to get the actual midi or just record the patterns as samples into maschine?
I ‘m trying to get the actually midi into Maschine and the do the same process you did in the vid and resample to get the audio.
May I ask why? lol. You’ll have to have midi OUT from the MPC into Maschine so it can send it’s midi data into Maschine. But if you’re gonna resample it as audio, no need to replay the midi in at all. Unless you just want to have the midi in there. I think capturing the audio, especially of your mpc sequences, will better capture the feel of your tracks, we don’t know what subtle changes may happen when recording the midi from the mpc into the Maschine sequencer. Technically it should be the same but you never know. Especially… Read more »
This should make it easier to do your MPC Series Russ. DO IT!!!! lol
Dope. You make the beat thang usable. You got that hardware bug now dont you? LOL
I told you I did brotha lol
Good tutorial bruh. I just followed along with Maschine and my MPC and sampled some stuff and it came out dope. totally reworked a track and it’s fresh to death now son! MT fam is on point!!!! Let’s get it!
Good news fam, that’s the idea 🙂
Okay, so how does the sampling handle sounds with tails that may bleed into different patterns?
It would be like a sample, it wouldn’t know that the sound “bleeds” into another pattern, so it’s gonna cut it off, it’s straight audio.
That’s what I thought. 🙁
Dope vid though. Gonna hook up the mp7!
Word 🙂
i like beat thang scratch feature wish maschine had this somehow hint hint….. lol
It’s just a pitch wheel lol. If you set anything to shift pitch by a large amount you can “scratch” wit it 🙂
By default, BT pitch wheel is set to +12/-12
So u Cant do it in maschine ur sayin?
Maybe theres a plugin out there u can throw ur samples in and use one of the knobs on maschine to scratch or even ur own mod wheel on ur keyboard.. Imma look into it
I’m saying it’s just pitchshifting, yes you can do it in maschine. If you have the right sample, you load it on a pad, and play the pad/keys while flipping your pitch wheel. Some samplers that let you adjust how much the pitch wheel will effect the sound makes it a bit easier. If your midi controller has a software that you can set how much the pitch wheel bends the sound up/down it will help too. Otherwise, if you’re like most and your pitch wheel only goes up down +2/-2 then you can just load a sample onto the… Read more »

good video demo if anyone else is interested
Yep I should have just linked to that instead of trying to type it all out lol. He posted that in the forum a while back too.
+1 Very interested in more like this! Along those lines… Has anyone ever used Maschine to sequence an iOS synth? I was checking out some iPad midi interfaces and iOS synths thinking it might be a cool alternative/complement to software plugins. Seems like it could lighten the burden on your computer and really leverage the power of some of these synth apps. I’d love to see some videos of something like that. I’ve found a few videos on youtube showing the iPad acting as a sequencer for a hardware synth (which is cool too), but obviously I’m way more interested… Read more »
Dude, Mean Gene is all about this! He actually uses his iPad as a “hardware synth” with Maschine.
Thank you! Mean Gene dropped some science on me for real. Seems like he is doing some really cool things with the iPad.
Yeah this is exactly how I plan to use my iPad whenever I get it, as an external synth module, it would be the same process as using other hardware modules. As long as you can get midi to it and audio out of it into your interface, you’re good.
Nice video Saintjoe .now i can use my Mophatt and MM-6.With Maschine
Yes indeed fam!
