This tutorial shows how to properly setup Maschine in Cubase to capture separate audio tracks.
This video just follows the rest we’ve been doing showing how to capture your performance live into separate audio tracks
Also known as “tracking out”
Hope this helps
What’s good thomasgrego, MG, and the rest of the MT Fam!
I know these two have been on me for a minute to show some Cubase stuff…I finally downloaded the demo lol

Ask and ye shall receive. Nice one SJ.
No doubt fam, a few extra steps but not too many.
Thank You Sir!
That wasn’t as bad as I thought it be.
Nah, me either lol. And it’s cool because you can just save the bus setup as a preset so they are always ready to go. I’m pretty sure I can figure out a way to save Maschine as a preset with all active outputs in a group track too so any time you load it all the outputs will be active/routed. I’m also positive you can just save a project template with everything routed. I’ll check that out tonight. Cubase isn’t as bad as I thought, pretty clean interface. Is there any way to make the freaking screen stop minimizing… Read more »
I’m not sure. I never noticed that problem. Might have to make a post to see if anybody else is experiencing that problem.
Really? if you maximize the sequencer area then press f11 or f4 or anything, the sequencer doesn’t minimize? Weird lol.
Remember I’m on a mac, so I don’t use the function keys by default.
Well it even happens when opening those windows from the menu, could be a PC quirk lol
You are the man! How quick was that! Thx bro!
Figured I’d get it installed while I was in the flow of things lol, at first I thought it sucked…then I figured it out lol. Not too bad 🙂
Too bad you couldn’t do one for Acid Pro. :-/
Are you asking? lol….I may have to download the demo and see if it’s possible.
Man U are gonna now every DAW and be a product specialist for any company lol!
Well I dunno bout that lol, I try to know just enough to do certain stuff with Maschine lol
Indeed I am asking Sir lol
How about showing how to record midi into Cubase like in Live with multiple tracks. Ya know what show what ever ya want it’s all gravy to me lol!
We’ll see what else I can come up with 🙂
Im with you here. This is my next need or project. To be able to route all 16 sound out of a group in Maschine to Midi channels in Cubase would be awesome! Please post if you figure it out.
Thanks
What exactly are you looking to do? Record the midi for a drum group?
yo thanks man im about to get it in. i dont know if you remeber me asking you about cubase. and you told me it should be the same step set up like the other daws as you can see its not. its tho cool i knew you wouldnt let me down thanks again. p.s i had the same probmlem with sony acid 8 can you please hook a brother up with routing tips tutorial. yo keep up the good work
+1 on Acid Pro 😉
No internal routing options in Acid Pro at all lol, already tried it man 😉
Yeah they all are different, Cubase takes a few more steps but still works.
Acid doesn’t have this option at all.
Booooo lol
got problem routing maschine to cubase five. i follow your steps but on my set up i have no f11 on my daw. what can i do
You don’t need an f11, just use whatever it is that opens that screen in cubase 5. I’ve only tried it with v6 so I don’t know what has changed from 5 to 6. Whatever you do to open vst instruments in Cubase 5 is what you need to do. You can also just do it from the device menu instead of using the button.
will this work with cubase Le ?
If LE has the vst rack, busses, and midi channels you should be able to do it, I don’t know, I’ve never used it.
Hey StJoe – great tutorial… saved me a shit load of time here my friend. thanks. Is 16 tracks the maximum you can track out to? I’m a control freak (that’s why it take me years – literally – to finish a track), and can see myself wanting to track out most of the drum sounds to separate audio tracks for micro edits and manipulation in Cubase… but that wouldn’t leave me with any channels to map the other Groups to, right? If that’s a limitation, in my case, it’s maybe a good thing so I get more done in… Read more »
Yeah that’s a limitation of Maschine’s outputs, but remember, they are stereo outputs so example, for drums, you could get away with 8 stereo outputs, just send each drum to the L or R channel of one of the outputs, so L1, R1 is two separate mono tracks really. Just setup mono busses instead of stereo.
Also, you can load multiple instances of Maschine, so you can have one with all your drums routed, and another with your other sounds 🙂
Cool, need time to digest that info and see if I can get it to work for me.
I’m thinking the first option for now could be easier, as switching between instances of Maschine, while I’m in live “performance mode” and recording mutes and solo’s, might confuse me…..which is easily done 😉
I definitely understand that lol, maschine makes it easy to pick instances though, shift+step lets you choose your instance 🙂
Man thats better than drag and drop.
It can be depending on what you trying to do for sure
Hey SaintJoe… back again. I was wondering about automating mutes and solo’s from a Daw (Cubase in my case). Is this possible? Maybe using the control editor?
mutes and solos do not send out midi data, but if you have all your audio routed into your daw, you could automate the mutes and solos on the actual tracks in your daw, depending on how your daw handles automation. But it would be the same as doing mutes/solos from the pads.
gotcha…. I wouldn’t want to draw them in Cubase. Been doing that for years already 😉
Playing them in live on Machine gives you a totally different vibe and spontaneity. Would the ‘Two Soldiers’ method record midi data in Cubase ? Any work around there you think?
don’t know how I missed this one, but I don’t know that you’d be able to record midi via the two soldiers method, but it may be possible 🙂
I’ve got a mental block – so at the risk of sounding like a dumb-ass I’m going to ask anyhow.
Maschine can send pattern and scene changes to Cubase as midi data right?
Yes, it can send scene changes into Cubase as midi or you can trigger scenes via midi in cubase.

SJ WHATS UP BROZAY, I WANT TO USE THE MASCHINE SENDING MIDI INTO CUBASE BUT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE MY EFFECTS (CUBASE) OPTION BOX. HOW CAN I DO THIS?
make sure you watch part 2
https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-in-cubase-part-2-midi-routing-and-sequencing/
DO I HAVE TO USE THE AUDIO METHOD, IF SO I WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO MANIPULATE MY MIDI NOTES IN ( KEY EDITOR) AND USE THE EFFECTS AND VSTs IN THE OPTION BOX. HOW CAN I RECORD IN MIDI AND STILL USE THE EFFECTS LIKE I WOULD IF I USED A INSTRUMENT TRACK?
you can route multiple channels from maschine into cubase if you want, use the external outputs in maschine and route them to audio/mixer tracks in cubase
SJ,
Okay I recently purchased the”Akai EIE pro” as my audio interface and it came with “Cubase LE 5”
The problem I’m having is that I don’t have F11 coming up on my devices tab?
So when I get to the part @ 3:35 in your tutorial video. I don’t have the option to select Maschine 1-4 that I previously set up?
I have my Maschine connected directly to the “Akai”. Ideas???
Thanks
WiLL
I think you may not have access to the vst rack in the LE version, I believe you only have instrument tracks.
Okay. So should proceed?
I’m not seeing the Maschine in the Cubase software.
I’m stumped ??
if you don’t see it at all, you have to actually add it to your cubase vst folder, check your preferences as to where you set Cubase to look for your vsts, and make sure you put the maschine vst in that folder.
Okay, I understand what you are saying, but am having trouble setting it up.
Is there a tutorial video that explains how to do this in cubase?
Thanks
No we don’t have a tutorial on using plugins in Cubase specifically as it’s a Cubase setup issue. Look inside of your preferences for Cubase, there should be somewhere that has a location for adding your vst plugin folder. If you don’t find it, it should definitely be inside of the manual. It’s not specific to setting up maschine it’s really something you need to setup to use any type of plugin in Cubase.
Excellent Job man. You just saved my day. Thank you.
Cool man glad to help!
Not sure if this has been covered but I’ve got the copy of Cubase LE version that came with Komplete Audio 6 and do not have the f11 option under Devices for adding the Maschine VST. Does anyone know if this is possible? It’s almost as if Ableton knows I’ve been looking at purchasing Live 8 instead and now Cubase does not want to cooperate.
I don’t believe you get the vst rack option in cubase le but it may still work if you use an instrument track
Good looking out Saint Joe, I went ahead and joined the MT Fam. This tutorial helped me out alot , was gettin kinda frustrated the past few days , lol Im liking all thee other tutorials i’ve seen so far too. Thanx again fam. Keep em comin’!!!
Welcome to the fam bro! Please ask any questions you may have we are here to help!
Whats good SJ?? Hey bro I ran into a lil problem this morning. I did everything right on the video , but got stuck at the 3:00 point, where you click on the stereo in and you have outputs on yours, well when i click on the stereo in mine doesnt show “outputs”, it only shows no bus and a check mark by stereo in , do i need to adjust any other settings elsewhere? By the way im using a UR 22 STEINBERG AUDIO INTERFACE which came with the Cubase AI 6
Are you on a mac or pc? If on a mac make sure you use the vst and not the AU, otherwise I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the AI version maybe it has some limitations?
At about 3:28 in the video you show routing the Maschine outs to the Audio track inputs. I know this video is old but here’s my issue. Using Cubase 8.5, when I get to that step, I do not have an option to select the audio tracks. All that shows is stereo output. Any ideas?
nevermind – I figured out my issue… Mistakenly created the busses in cubase as input instead of output. D’oh!
Hahaha, no worries man, it happens to all of us!
