Hey what’s good fam! Well, with the new arranger changes in Maschine 2.0 and the changes to how patterns are managed I put together a new tutorial for the community to go along with the one I did for Maschine 1 years ago to make sure everyone understands the basics on how to use the sequencer, arranger, and how to add patterns to scenes in Maschine 2.0
It’s pretty straight forward from the controller but from the software it can be a little confusing if you aren’t sure what to look for.
This tutorial shows you exactly how to operate it from the software so you can be putting together your sequences in no time!

That was awesome. I had no idea we could duplicate the scene with new patterns. This wasn’t n 1.8 was it? In the vid I missed how to do it from the software.
Yes we could do it in 1.8 also 🙂
You set it up from the hardware first
Hey SJ – is it possible to shorten or extend a Scene’s length? (preferably from the Studio hardware)
Your scene is still dictated by the longest pattern in it
WTF????!!!!! I must have slept during that episode for 1.8. I didn’t know we could create a duplicate of our patterns like that when duplicating scenes. Smh I’m a n00b
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahahahahahahaha lol
saint joe!
when you select scenes for playback… do you know any way on the hardware to select the scenes instead of going back to the computer?
thanks jg
yeah you can just press the scene button and the scenes will be on the screen
Good question. I want to know this also.
Oh I misread that question. Smh I need sleep.
Staying up watching Walking Dead huh? LOL
Followed by Taking Dead and Comic Book Men. Capped off with Conan lol.
Indeed sir, indeed! I stopped after talking dead myself 😉
thanks. i meant like scene1 into scene2 etc…
on the software you showed dragging the yellow line at the top to include the next scenes on playback. (around 2:50 in the vid above)
Check this out https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-studio-adjusting-the-scene-loop-range-from-the-hardware-controller/
ps i am using a machine studio
!
In this video your using Studio.
I have the MK2 and when i click on Scene i have no option to +Pattern.
This feature is great.
How do i do this on the MK2?
It’s the same, press scene, then press duplicate and you will see the “+pat” 🙂
Hey it’s me again I was having a problem understanding and I realized that I had to really look at your hands because small details like “push the scene button” as in the physical button next to the drum pads and not the duplicate at the top made all the difference. I also didn’t realize you mean press both buttons at the same time, I wonder if you would every do tutorials showing your hands on a bigger screen so we don’t miss any of the small nuances. My learning style often leaves me missing out on the steps in-between… Read more »
Word fam, that’s what’s up, I thought it was a big enough picture but definitely something to consider 🙂
Yo I think they should do away with the scene feature. They should just bite the mpc song mode and call it a night. I can deal with it but from a speed standpoint this is too much work. I just want to make patterns and tell the arranger how many times to repeat it. Hey we waited forever to get a mixer function and muti-core support so maybe one day they’ll fix the song arrangement feature. If they did that maschine would be technically perfect
Fam…I been saying that forever. Even Beat Thang does it. At least give us the option, it doesn’t have to be the only way. But we should have a way to set how many times a pattern/section loops. Even with the scene mode, let us tell a scene how many times to loop, something smh. I also still want a linear way to work too, sometimes you want to play across scenes/patterns.
I agree with tek lol
Agreed 1000% with both Tek and SJ. Maschine will be amazing once they sort out the arrangement mode.
I don’t suppose some one could break down how the original MPC song mode worked, since everyone seemed to love it. ( I’ve never used an MPC).
Is ere anything stopping NI from….uh… ‘Borrowing’ that basic workflow from Akai?
Well you basically had a list, and then you would put how many times you wanted each part to loop
so it would be
sequence 1 loop 1
sequence 2 loop 4
it was very simple, not much unlike scene mode, it wasn’t really linear it was just very simple, Beat Thang operates the same way.
I would like a hybrid option, the ability to set our scenes to loop specific number of times as well as a linear option below that that goes across scenes
On the MK2 Mikro with Maschine 2.0 I do not see the +Pat on the controller. I dupicate the patterns and get Pattern1, Pattern 2 etc but when I edit the patterns they all change. Is there something I am missing? How can I duplicate and eidt without all of them changing with the mikro?
You can also duplicate the patterns directly from the pattern button. But in order to do it from scene mode, you have to press scene first, then while holding scene press duplicate, then you will see +pat on the screen.
I’ve owned the Maschine MKII and then upgraded to the Maschine Studio the day it was released, but the bulb just came upstairs and exploded after finally realizing this is the proper way to build a song inside of the Maschine. Thanks for crystallizing my perception of the proper use of the scene and pattern modes. I’ve been fiddling around with this thing for too long, now I feel that its time to create. Thanks again Saint Joe!!!
Glad to help fam!!!
So when I duplicate patterns, I have pattern 1 and pattern 2 but I cant add a filter for example to just one pattern without it affecting both patterns. I have no issues with any other editing features just the effects.
The fx will apply to the group as a whole, unless you automate them to specifically come on in certain patterns.
You have a video on how to do this? I’m pulling my hair out.
There’s a bunch of different ways, you could do it by actually sequencing the fx, or you could just use the autowrite button or draw in automation that will turn the filter on/off in the specific pattern
Here’s an older one https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-sequence-your-fx-and-automate-them-with-patterns/
But I can do a video specifically if you want, just let me know exactly what you’re trying to achieve.
Thanks I’m about to watch video. I just want to put a lp filter on pattern 1 and take it off on pattern 2.
In that case, you could draw in automation to turn it on in one pattern and off in the other.
That is fantastic. Damn.
Hahahaha lol, enjoy
So I finally cave in and decide I want to know how to record complete tracks in 2.0… In this is lesson it’s confusing because you use the same color when going over scenes… Can you tell me with the links and what direction to go in, because I’m getting a little discourage with this process…
Not sure what you mean by the colors? Of the patterns? They don’t have to be different colors, you can quickly see which scene is which by looking at the top of the arranger. Where are you stuck at? The scenes go across the top, the groups go along the left side, and you put your patterns for each group into the different scenes. You can only ever have 1 pattern per group in a scene.
Thats funny I was reading this whole thread to confirm what appeared to be the case, and there it was in one sentence. “You can only ever have 1 pattern per group in a scene.”
thanks saintjoe
Glad to help man!
Really study it and I did I’m coming along… How I notice or is I’m just fumbling, why does the pre count not work???
Make sure you’re using shift+record to get your count-in/pre-count going.
Did it Joe thanks!… On another note, this is dope, I guess I got caught in the fancy colors… You did break it down, you now wasting any time lol… The same color scheme actually makes this easier… I notice your patterns are set to 8 bar loops but the only one different is the f group, Can I see a video of these with a basic track that way I can get the full of approach on it…
Just realize my foolish mistake, I would like to hear that track out Joe, sorry for saying asking for a track when it is one already there
I’m not sure what you mean by “hear the track out” group F is just using smaller patterns but your smaller patterns will always loop to match the longest one in the scene. So if the longest pattern in the scene is 8 bars, a group with a 4 bar pattern will loop twice, a group with a 2 bar pattern will loop 4 times to match the 8 bar loop.
Good looking fam. I use to rock with the akai x20 and it has a section a and b, but the main reason why I use it was for the drums, I didn’t to much care for there sounds. When I remember that I was like this is how my flow could be inside of studio one and maschine 2.0… I’m about to try to apply the drag and quick bounce without the routing inside of studio one and hopefully I will be on my way….
No problem man, have fun 🙂
Hey guys
My problem is I have scene 1 group A which has 3 different patterns. I would like to play patterns 1,2,& 3 one after another from group A in scene 1, is it possible to do this without creating scene 2 to play pattern 2 etc?
Any help would be appreciated.
You have to create multiple scenes, only 1 pattern per group per scene.
Hey Joe!
I export my track as a wav file and send to a friend that he recorded some guitars and send them back as wav file only with the guitar playing.
How can i add now this audio file that should play from the beginning until the end of my arrangement ?
Can a make i make one pattern that play along with all the scenes of this piece?
Any idea of how i could make this 3 minute long audio playing along with my track with machine?
Thanks
Really would be easier to chop it up along with your track since Maschine isn’t linear, trying to play a 3 minute file along with your stuff in Maschine isn’t all that fun. Unless you export it all into a daw.
I see…thanks Joe!
No problem!
Wasn’t there a video on how to do this from Mk2 controller? If not how would you do this feature. Thanks
The software works exactly the same, as for the screens, they are much smaller on the mk2 but the idea is still the same, you can add patterns to scenes from the hardware by using scene to pick which scene you want to work in, then you press pattern and hit any pad to add a pattern from the current group to the scene.
is there a way you can pattern + option when duplicating scnenes on the software just itself? Instead of having to pull up the scene, pattern button combination?
Once you set it from the hardware it will duplicate when you do so from the software, but you can’t setup the +pat from the software.
Man I’m really loving the way the courses are taught. never had access to this much help ever lol
Glad to help, we wanted to make it so you can just find whatever you want at the time you need it lol. Of course if you have questions just ask 🙂
