Yo what’s up MT family? Just got my hands on Protools 9 so wanted to do a video showing how to route your pads and outputs into the daw from Maschine.
For those that know this already, cool, for those that don’t I hope this helps.
I also show quickly how to record the audio from the separate outputs in real time if you want.
I’ll be digging more into PT9, I used to use PT earlier versions when I was working in radio 8 hrs a day…but still getting familiar with the new version
peace!

Thanks for this one. I had seen a video on this a long time ago, but don’t remember where. So now I can favorite this fir future use.
Thanks Nek !!
YES SIR!!!! GOT THE BIG KID SMILE GOING ON!!! BOUT TO WATCH THANKS KNOCK!
thanks.. oh i was saying command = command = knock use the short cuts lol
Yeah…I know I need to learn the shortcuts again. Been a long time away from PT
Damn, I’ve been waiting for some Protools videos so long lol.
Would like to see you route the groups into protools. What version do you have? Is it PT9 MP upgrade?
Good job!!
What up man. Thanks Bro ! Yeah its PT9 M-audio version. The full PT9 doesnt need a particular interface.
iI think u route the groups the same way .. instead of routing individual sounds u go under groups in the maschine select which output u would like the groups to come out..
Mckay !! Exactly !
i really need to read up on videos with my mac cause i could post on the forums different stuff u could do with pt 8 or 9 i got both not bragging but pt 9 comes in handing specially when the kids watching spoongebob and my wife is cooking and i wanna edit some vocals but i can’t go to the man cave for some peace. lol
Hahaha…. I feel ya bro. I’m always in that predicament. Love spongebob though LOL
So Knock if your computer could handle it you could route each groups 16 channels 8 times from A to H ?! Can U say side chain compression from the kik to your bass!!! Very cool thanks man!
No, you only have 16 stereo outputs total in Maschine (32 mono) so you can’t have 16 separate channels from each group. They all will share the 16 stereo outputs, and you can route them however you wish.
Damn!!
Still pretty cool though, got PT 9 a while ago but never touched it I now have a reason. If you linked up 2 pads say a couple of snares would the master pad be the one routed and would the slave pad record with it? Hmmm.
Ya I guess you would have to route both but only trigger the master,I’m answering my own questions lol!
The student becomes the teacher….. 😉
Hahahaha! Explore it man!
what if i want to do a simple 2 track recordin in protools will this same set up work with me mixing live with maschine…. im thinking rout the master track ffrom maschine instead of the imduvual sounds somehow…. idk i like mixing live so this would help a bunch if this works
Yeah in that case you would just route the main output to an audio track and go to work!
thanx
One nice side effect of using Maschine in PT, is that you can use it as a vst wrapper without having to use the vst2rtas utility from fxpansion. Suddenly all vst’s are at your disposal inside PT.
Yep, same for using vsts in Logic 🙂 I think folks forget about that too.
Vst wrapper?? What is this?
Well in order to use VSTs in Protools you need a vst to rtas adapter/plugin, since PT only uses rtas. But since you can load Maschine as an Rtas plugin and load vst inside of it, you don’t have to pay for a vst to rtas wrapper. Same in logic, which only supports AU plugins, you can load maschine as an AU and load vsts inside of it.
That is phenomenal! Thanks for the info!
My man Knock back to the rescue!
Yeah…I found my cape…LOL Thanks man !
Thank you for this great tutorial.
Very happy to see that you guys also get into protools.
At home i work with Logic Pro, but at my work (radiostation) i use protools as my main DAW, so this is very welcome !
Cool man, glad it’s useful to ya!
I come from radio also
I been waiting on some pro tools videos too…..Say knock I know you also have reasons….Can you guide me on how to record sounds into protools via maschine
YOu mean having maschine loaded into Protools and Reason into maschine?
Is that possible?!
I don’t see why not 🙂 lol, seems like a loooooong way around though
Wow! Thanks for this video. I’m new to both Maschine and Pro tools, and this has helped out a lot. Please more Pro tools with Maschine videos!
Thanks for the vid Knock. How do you record multiple tracks in PT? I have PT LE 8 and when I arm one track the other armed track goes out. It seems I can only record one track at a time. If so, that would suck!
Ancient..whats up. I dont know why it only lets you record one at a time. There has to be a way to arm multiple tracks. I have pro tools 9 so I cant tell you how it works in LE. IWhen you have one tracked armed and try to click rec on another track does it say anything?
Thanks for responding Knock. But no I dont get any message at all. Its weird. Im sure I should be able to record all the tracks. Also when I try to record just one instrument track I dont see the wave file being created. But when I record a vocal track I do.
Thanks for this video, I was wondering how to get this done.
Is there a video up on how to do this with Logic? Been looking around. and tried a couple different things, no luck yet.
check this one

hey knock, great tutorial looking forward to more pertaining to maschine/protools in the future… i have one question though. for some reason, when i try to route the ‘ins’ for my audio tracks (im trying to record my instrument tracks as you demonstrated in the video) it wont let me select maschine channel 3…. its so strange because the other channels work correctly and ive tried it but for some reason i cant use channel three… occasionaly this happens for other channels as well.
any ideas whats going on here??
Not sure if Knock has seen this before or not, but I’ve never heard of anything like that happening. I don’t have PT to test it, but it sounds like a problem with PT exclusively, as i’ve not heard about it in other products. But maybe there is just something funky going on with Maschine in PT on your computer. Have you had the issue with maschine in any other daw?
no, PT is the only DAW I currently use. However I do only have PT8LE, so Im thinking/hoping that its simply the fact that I dont have the up to date version… But it really is strange. When I go to select channel three, it just skips right over it and picks channel 4…so weird.
Do you have any ideas what so ever that could help me fix this issue?
I do not know enough about PT to have any advice, like I said, I’ve never heard of a situation where you can’t pick a channel. do you have anything assigned to channel 3? Maybe you need to assign something to it in Maschine first?
Nope I did it exactly as Knock showed in the video, which would be the best possible scenario if i wasnt experiencing this issue lol. it simply skips over channel three as if it doesnt exist lol.
WOW! lol…I know Knock has pt9, don’t know if there is a difference or not.
Same thing was happening to me in PT8. I think it just has to do with the stereo ins/outs. Instead of select a mono in/out, it makes a selection of a pair. (e.g. won’t select 3, but use 3&4) kind of thing. It might be a pro tools bug.
Ahh yes, didn’t think about that, that could definitely be it, depending on how PT handles audio tracks stereo vs mono.
hmm that sounds like what im experiencing this is so strange… i might just have to upgrade even though i cant exactly afford it right now haha
Just wondering when we can expect more pro tools? Sooner would be better
You need to ask specific questions so we know what you want, just saying “more protools” isn’t going to help. Once we know what you want to know, it’s easier to make a video.
I think Knock has already covered the most requested tutorials for using Maschine with protools, so if you have something specific please ask away 🙂
New videos on optimization and best practices with Pro Tools would be good: memory, plugin stategy, process strategies, controller mods, saving and naming, memory point tricks, maybe (brainstorming)
Thanks for the suggestion. Not using Pro Tools (not a Pro Tools user at all) so most likely not something that will be covered at this time.
Why is there phasing when listening to my Maschine pattern in protools.?
check your routing, are you just routing the audio from maschine into PT?
Anything new with the integration with protools 12 and machine 2 update?
