In this maschine tutorial I show you how to quickly and easily expand your own custom instrument sounds using maschine’s synth/sampler engine and single cycle waveforms.
Trust me, it’s not as difficult as it sounds and can help you create your own sounds VERY quickly.
This allows you to really expand your sound library and customize your own instruments quickly and efficiently.
Single cycle waveforms do not take up much space at all like a multi sampled instrument would. Very small in size but they are the basic building blocks for many synths and plugins.

Man, is there anything this Maschine thing can’t do? LOL..SJ this opened my eyes bigtime! I have been messing around w sound design w Ableton, But this way is a much better work flow…Great Video! Once again you guys are killing Ableton’s Sales…I keep moving Ableton down on my Macs dock station, it’s getting real close to the trash can icon…LoL…Thanks Bro!
Ahahahaha lol, i feel ya man. I keep ableton around still, sometimes I use it simply as an arranger after I'm done building my tracks in Maschine. Most of the time I don't, but it's there when I want to really get freaky with my arrangement or just want more flexibility. I feel ya though, I think many forget Maschine is a sampler and has a pretty decent engine inside for creating new sounds, with single cycle waveforms the potential is limitless!
Good video. Maybe you included it in another tutorial but once you make the sound, its just a matter of renaming and save as, edit labels, finished, right?
thanks, yeah you just right click on the sound, save as, and give it a name to save into your library. Check this video for more info

Whoa…. This is tha bizz homie… Good Lookin out on this tutorial fam.
Opens things up quite a bit huh? It's crazy man lol, can always come up with new sounds.
Yes Sir…. Im grabbing those Galbanum bad boys as we speak…. My MPC 2500 has been collecting dust for awhile now. And since this new Machine update it's getting thicker lol…. This Machine is off the chain in so many ways and machinetutorials.com is where it's at homie.. Between you and knock im seeing endless possibilities…. And it's all appreciated 100% homies…. Keep em coming fam..
that’s whasup! Thanks fam, we appreciate the support for sure!
ReeeDonkulous
have fun!
I haven't even heard all of the sounds in the maschine library yet, and now you show me this! Madness!!!
it’s wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open son! lol
this is by far my favourite tutorial video!..its really fun n challenge one creativeness…no need for basic programming knowledge..just wild out..youre the man joe..you know you could make a beat at 3 minutes with that melody..”damm..this melody pretty hot..i think i wanna lay some drum patterns on this joint..” *paused*..”nahhhhh…..stick to the tutorial video..”..hehehe :)…more of this please cause this type of videos open my eyes to maschine capabilities 🙂
no doubt fam, I love doing stuff like this for sure! I got another one coming using oneshot samples to create new instruments, etc. Soon as I get back from LA
ableton is HIGHLY needed. Maschine does not eliminate the need for ableton in anyway/ in fact, you need it more now days since you can open a vst in maschine.
why ?
lets say you found an off centered groove or loop accidentally. using ableton to create the groove the way you imagine it becomes possible, and then some. plus, ableton and maschine work together solid.
Yeah it’s still useful for sure, I guess it depends on who you are and how you use it, for some it’s no longer needed for others it’s still a great tool I still like it for it’s arranger/session view, dragging loops from maschine into ableton to complete songs is a nice flow, and as you say, the warping features are still awesome. But truthfully for me, I use Maschine for all creation and ableton is more of a tool/editor, if I open it at all. The great thing about Maschine is it can be whatever we want, it fits… Read more »
looking forward bro! 🙂
Word!
Thanks I just spent 80 bucks I got the waveforms 2010 and Abstraction 04 because I liked how it sounds. Thanks for the info.
word fam, it’s a whole new world man
You know what I have to say this is real fun. Thanks again
no doubt man, glad to help!
Something tells me you used to do this on your MPC4000 too 🙂
Dope stuff. I figured I would comb my folders for those few VST’s and libraries that include single cycle waves but I might grab that Galbanum pack.
You know it son! lol, download the freepack, there’s a bunch in there to get started with man!
Thanks Bruh!
you are welcome!
this site is too awesome….from two days of joining am like 10 times better…thanks guys
Awesome man, glad you like it! We have tons here and always adding more, make sure to ask questions if you have any!
Yuuuuup!
LOL…so what you gonna do now?
Spend some money lol
Ahahahahahahahaha!
Hey SJ – really nice tutee – broke it down real simple. I think I’ll be starting to venture away from presets a little more with this. Just one Q: the sounds you made in this tutorial were quite shrill and metallic, I take it if I simply grabbed some sine waves as my starting point, I could create softer and warmer tones suitable for pads or basses, right? Also, if you map both (or more) sounds on a single pad, then any effect you add will apply to both sounds, right? To get a bit more nuance in how… Read more »
Yes, you can use different waveforms, I chose some pretty funk ones, you can layer multiple waves on a single pad. You could pad link, but it doesn’t work from the keyboard, so you would only be able to play the sound from the pads…something I’ve been asking for since they added pad link, allow it to be triggered via midi. This would really help with sound layering.
Odd, when I downloaded the Galbumunum waveforms, my file structure was different to the one your downloaded (visible at 1:40)
mine has a series of subfolders in it, and some of them contain WAVs, but others contain .KSDs (?!) and .raw and .gly files.
Really odd.
They make them for different platforms, the gly joints are for absynth for expample. I reorganized my stuff to my own liking.
Ah, cool. thought I might have downloaded the wrong thing, or that the content had changed since you did the tutorial.
No doubt man, I usually like to rearrange stuff according to how it works best for me lol
Anybody heard of 128s, filling the piano roll in a sampler with similar sounds (i.e kicks, snares, synth shots from galbana). I hear reaktor has some good sampler ensembes, so instead going to the browser to choose ur sounds, you go in to battery and choose one of the 128 kicks you have by changing the root key. This would be very beneficial to the workflow, finding the right sound that fits easily. The only problem is I don’t think you can fill the maschine piano roll unless you slice an audio file with 128 kicks. Thats why you would… Read more »
You can do this in the sample map screen on Maschine. 😉
Yeah, just open the sample map and you can drag a sample to each key.
This video below is about layering, but it’s the same section you would use for what you want to do
