This is a topic that is definitely something folks usually ask about Maschine.
Layering drums and samples in maschine could use some work and improvement, it’s come a long way since the beginning, but still has a ways to go to make it even more intuitive and conducive to a fast workflow.
Despite my feelings on where it should be going, Β in this tutorial I show how to do it with the current features, hopefully it makes it easier to you.
It’s not hard to do, it’s just different from most drum samplers and is more like layering in Kontakt or other multi sample instruments.

Nice Vid SJ. Can you also build a drum kit with the layered sounds you created for future use???
Yessir, you can save it like normal kits.
Vid is not working!
That was weird, thanks, should be playing for you now!
That was a great tutorial. I have a question… If I trigger a snare with two or more other snares instead of layering (for control purposes) How wuud I export them in mono to one sound?? Cause’ I like to mix in Logic.
Producer Stylzkeyz
Only way to export them as one sound is to resample it after you have it how you want.
Now thats hot basically what the other fam member was asking about how traumah is doing his drums.
Yep, figured it would be easier to show him instead of explain it π
Oooh assign the master output or the group to the sampler. Thanks Joe
Producer Stylzkeyz
yeah set a pad to sample, internal, and set it to the group your drums are in, solo the drums you want to sample together and go
That’ Cake baby! Preciate’ ur consultation SJ.
Im really finding out quickly that Maschine is like an MPC without the limitations.
Producer Stylzkeyz
Yessir my good man lol
Isn’t that the same as pad linking? It’s kinda less of a hassle doing it more or less with the pad linking function.
pad linking uses multiple pads, it was givin to us because we kept complaining about the layering, layering lets you create composite sounds on the same pad, also when you export you’ll have a new sound, not a bunch of singles
pad linking is one way to do it, but layering is a different process and still needs to be fully implemented in a more clean way imo
I must be doing something wrong cuz even with the add button on it still replaces the previously load sample….any ideas?
Ok….just worked…weird…I’ll post again if it acts up…THNX FOR THE VIDEO JOE!!!
word lol, shouldn’t replace anything if the add button is checked.
thnx preciate it
You’re welcome sir
Thaks for the tut! Awesome vid!
word! glad to help
Another necessity for the mpc-minded beat junkie I’m used to combining drums to make my own good looking on that. I see I gotta comb this site for all the jewels you guys got mucho gold nuggets to harvest I got my greedy eyes peeled lol!!
Indeed sir! Let us know if there is other stuff as an mpc user you need clarified, as I’m constantly working on my series of videos for mpc users coming to maschine.
if you want to layer drums into your own sample , i mean the sample you have took on another tracks you have to extract the sample which is in ur pad into as an one shot sample? and put it in your library and then later layer it to the drums . i’m new about beatmaking though i discover everything i just found this technique today here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0A0zhU3xCI i was like how he did this to get the sample playing along with the drum when he hit the pad lol but it seems to be hard tough to get… Read more »
Not exactly sure what you’re asking, but you can layer any sample with your drum, you can also do it with pad linking so hitting one pad triggers two pads, etc. You can copy specific parts of a sample to another pad then layer it with a drum, etc. It’s really up to you.
oh yea i just watched your tutorial about the pad liking i think it should perfectly work like that , this technique sound really nice to used with some sample i’m going to test this on my next beats . thanks again joe for you help
Oh okay, cool!! Let me know how it works for ya!
can this be done on the maschine mikro? I dont recall seeing an add function here…sorry not by my mikro right now
I think it’s one of those things you can’t do from the mikro as it lacks the second screen to show it, you would have to add it to the sample map from the software.
add it to the sample map? and for those of us at home who don t know how to do this…..what would they do exactly? lol
I did it in the video, in the sample editor tab there is a “map” tab and you can drag stuff there to layer it
ohhh okay…thanks…I kind of like layering the drums with linking instead with the slave/master..
no doubt, we need some more improvements in the drum layering options as well
Just went through all the layering vids again for a refresh, glad I have this resourse π
Nice man!
still a beginner j but been watching a a lot of your videos and i am learning a lot great videos keep up the good work!
welcome man, we are here to help, let us know if you have any questions!
