This is a basic tutorial going over the hardware controller and explaining the various buttons and knobs.
It is a good idea to get as familiar with the hardware as possible, as this adds to the workflow, speed, and ease of use for Maschine.
The way the controller integrates with the software is really what makes this instrument stand out from anything else.
The visual feedback and two way instant communication really makes it feel like an instrument and not just software with a midi controller.

Like the skin but a bit distracting for a lesson
thanks, yeah, I changed my skin in the later tutorials to something more "clean"
LoL, I didn't notice I had a Shift + "Save" button. That would have done me good before a system crash last week, lol. Oh well still learning, thanks for the time on this.
Yeah buddy 🙂 Use it, get in the habit of it lol
yeah I never noticed that Shift+Snap was a Save option either!
nice!
haha same with the Save option here!
Awwwwwwww yeah! lol.
Man this is confusing and i haven’t found much help here either…ok so i open up maschine and click new project. how do i browse for sounds using my controller? i hit browse then nav buttin but ctrl is in the spot underneath f2. where it should say groups…
You are in midi mode on the Mikro, hit shift f1 to get into regular Maschine mode then you will be able to browse the sounds.
also, checkout the videos that pertain specifically to browsing on the Mikro

Thanx dude not sure why it would default to midi mode.. i have a few more questions… 1st now that i can browse how come i dont see the sounds that came with komplete elements? i did load and update them when i first installed the mashcine software.. secondly when on the screen that says master group and sound how can i adjust the tempo from the controller. i see it right in front of me but can’t select or high light it????
To see complete elements you have to be looking under the instruments tab, like in the video I had showing how to load plugins. You also need to be using maschine 1.7 and komplete elements mk2, if you didn’t download and install komplete elements mk2, it won’t show up.
To adjust the tempo, get out of browse and go to the main screen by hitting the “main” button, then you can adjust the tempo from there.
waddup SJ, I got a triton extreme, as well as mashine, which 1 is the slave wnna use both?
You can just use midi to sequence the Triton. Make sure you have the input/output for midi turned on in Maschine on whichever interface the triton is on.
Also, check this video for maschine/hardware workflow

Thanks fam
No doubt fam
Hey SJ – Is there a firmware update or anything to enable some of those extra ‘shift’ functions you have on your controller?
I have an earlier controller (the only shift function I have in the Transport section is Metronome).
They will work on yours too, no firmware update needed its all software based. Later versions just added labels for more of the functions, but the controllers do the same stuff 🙂
Hmmm, strange.
My controller is a Gen 1.
I purchased it (in Australia) back in late April, and that was on backorder.
Judging by the comments, you made this tut before 31 Jan and you already have a later gen model.
Would NI have dumped old stock into our market when they had already started distributing a later Gen model?
I feel ripped off! Am I right?
🙁
Still a Gen 1 is better than a Gen none 🙂
I got a replacement around that time cuz my first one got water damage 🙂
Same controller they just updated the labels to match the functions better.
No need to feel ripped off, plus you can buy a custom cover with the new labels
Thanks SJ.
The Rec Countin certainly works.
But when I try to adjust the volume, pitch or time of an individual sound using the shift button all that happens is that the main function (i.e. global Volume/Tempo/Swing) is adjusted instead (just not as fast as when you turn the rotary without the shift button pressed).
Im running v1.71 (R7666).
Its all cool. Presumably Im not doing something right…
Doh! Got it. You don’t use the shift key for those functions. Instead you press and hold down on the the pad for the sound (or the group button for the group) that you want to adjust, and then adjust the rotaries in the Master section as required…
🙂 🙂 🙂
Yes indeed 🙂
It’s pretty slick actually 🙂
what are modules?
the different types of components you can load like sampler, midi, fx, etc.
