Hey what’s good fam!
One of our most popular tutorials was where I showed how to play and record chords in Maschine
But using chord and arp plugins in Maschine can be a little confusing with the routing and I constantly get questions on how to use an arp, step sequencer, or chord generator in Maschine.
One of the most simple and flexible ways to do this is with iOS applications. There are quite a few of them actually.
In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to use Yamaha’s Keyboard Arp and Dr Pad app to trigger arps and chords via midi and record them into Maschine.
All of this is done wireless but you can also use a standard hardwared midi connection if you wish

Good video!! which Midi interface are you using for your iPad?
In this video I was all wireless, I have an iRig midi adapter too but most of the time I just go Wireless. Unless I’m triggering sounds out of the iPad from Maschine or my Keyboard, then I use a midi connection.
Thanks!! I’ve been thinking about integrating my iPad and all the music apps I have into my studio… your video inspired me to take action TODAY. 🙂
yeah man, there are so many ways to do it, Alesis I/O dock gives you all the midi and audio in one unit, then you have stuff like the iRig Midi, or the other various iPad midi/audio devices. I just have a 1/8th adapter to rca output that I connect rca to 1/4 inch plugs to and plug that into my mixer 🙂
ah.. never mind.. i just heard what you use after listening back. 🙂
all good man 🙂
Lol thats dope, just to bad im all into the ren now lol.. Dope vid thou
Too bad for you 😉
Great showing these man! The other Yamaha synth and pad app with sounds is cool too!
Indeed man, got more coming, so many different ways to work with Maschine man 🙂
I’ve got my iPod touch out and I don’t see a Yamaha app that could be what you are using. Could it be iPad only by chance?
Hey fam, it’s possible this one is iPad only, but there are others out there for iphone/ipod as well, I will be showing more options for sure
Just purchased app, its telling me wireless midi port not found.
Ipad-MacBook Pro-Machine.
Yeah you have to set up a connection with your computer first, on the Mac you can setup a wireless connection between your ipad and macbook in your network settings I’m on PC so I had to use rtpMIDI application to setup a wireless network between my iPad and my computer.
Here’s how i did it on my Mac. Go into Macintosh HD / Applications / Utilities / Audio Midi Setup. Go under the Window menu to Show Midi Window Double-click on the Network icon. Click the “+” button under My Sessions. This will create Session 1 (or whatever you choose to name it). In the Session window to the right.. check the ENABLE button and set the port to 5004 (probably already is).. Local Name should be same as Session name and Bonjour Name can be the name of your computer. In the lower left choose ANYONE for Who Can… Read more »
Just seen your comment, you read my mind. Thanks anyway
Yeah, I knew it was in there somewhere lol, much easier for Mac since it’s all built in, on PC you need a separate program 😉
All working now thank god, I mean Saint Joe.
Just needed to create network on Mac then follow these steps Applications/Utilities/Audio midi setup/show midi window/open network/enable session/connect iPad then select the network you created on iPad wifi settings. Easy when you know how lol…
Yeah man, thought so, it’s much easier to setup on Mac than PC lol
Holy crap man, this is really really dope. Don’t have an ipad, but I’ve got
got an ipod. Gonna check to see if this works with the ipod. An ipad is def on my christmas list! Beat dope too man!
no doubt man, iOS is crazy with the apps man, I’m sure there is something for ipod/iphone too if not this specific one
DOPE…this will be in my studio by the end of the night. SJ to the rescue.. like that beat too man…LOL.
Hahahaha, it’s dope man, great app
ok you guys are all geniuses compared to me I’m just a kid… So can someone explain step by step like that guy did for the MAC users. I’m one a PC and my parents wont help me out. I have an Ipad3 and want to do this so please list step 1,2,3 etc. thanks fam!
Make sure you’ve installed rtp midi on your pc, check this out

o yea and really tight beat man
thanks!
wow even a kid can do it. I just turned it on in the maschine through audio and midi and its good. Now I just gotta learn how to use it. Thanks man this is sweet!
Awesome man, have fun!
Alright SJ, first off 5 out of 5 subs man really nice video. That cam you’re using is nice, I want one, but still can’t decide. Anyway man these type of videos take maschine to the next level, I’m loving how you’re incorporating the iPad in different workflow scenarios, and using the Yamaha Dr. Arp app just killed it. I definitely want to see more of these videos. Like I said before great job man.
Thanks fam, loving this cam and loving the iPad got some more videos coming man, it’s such a dope tool bro, I know I don’t have to tell you that though lol.
Great video fam! I’m loving the combo. of Maschine and the Ipad.Just sold my original Maschine on Ebay, got a white MK2 arriving tomorrow which matches my Ipad 2:)Gonna grab those yamaha apps.tonite!
Nice man, my MK2 just came in, the white is nice, I have the black mikro but the white Maschine…good stuff man, it’s really a nice improvement
As for the iPad man I love using it like this with Maschine, so many different ways to work with it
GREAT VIDEO! seeing these two separately great technologies interact flawlessly has me supper excite at the possibilities, first time I’ve ever said i NEED to buy an iPad asap. One question for your does the the app have its own sounds which are played into maschine or is it just playing whatever sound you already loaded in maschine… or both? Once again great vid!
They actually have two apps, one is mainly for sending midi, and the other one called Synth Arp and Dr Pad has a synth in it. I mean both actually have their own sounds but I was just using the midi control to trigger sounds I had loaded in Maschine.
I wish we could get more mac love?
This works on mac or pc as long as you setup the midi input from your device.
