The main place you will be handling all of your sampling is from the record tab in Maschine 2.0
This is where all of your input is taken, where all of your sample history is stored, and where you start for editing and manipulating your sample content.
It’s pretty similar to the original Maschine software with a few welcomed enhancements, one of which is the ability to use true mono inputs.
This is perfect for vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, synths, and more.
It’s always important you understand this section if you plan to use Maschine as a sampler

I have been up day and night watching these incredible vid. Thanks SJ. Thiese vids mean a lot.
No problem fam, just making sure you guys have the proper foundation before we go deeper 🙂
Hi! Absolutely love these tuts! How do I go about to record ex. a guitar with an plug in effect? Before you went Input module etc. I would like to hear the effect and record/sample it at the same time?
You would have to set the input to one of your sounds first, then sample the output of it. I can do a video of how to set it up in 2.0, here’s one in Maschine 1 https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-apply-fx-when-sampling-into-maschine/
Hi mate lovin the site so far, how do i record sounds/tracks from iTunes with the maschine sampler?
That depends more on your audio interface than Maschine, if it allows you to route audio between apps. If not you can use something like audio hijack
thanks bro!!!
No problem
Hi! Trying to figure this out. I have external synths which i usually control with a keyboard controller when i’m in cubase. I went to preferences in maschine and made sure all the ins and outs of my audio & midi interface appear, as well as my keyboard controller etc. Now, what do i need to do in order to be able to: 1) Route the keyboard controller when using maschine, to control the external synths (how to route the midi)? Where do i “open a midi channel” which i can specify if it’ll be midi 1 or 2 or… Read more »
I know exactly what’s you’re looking to do 🙂

Thanks! I’ll have a look at those.
Btw – from your experience – what is your take on making complete tracks with maschine VS using maschine as a plugin in a daw, just for grooves and beats and sample mangling? Do you find daws to have a better workflow when it comes to extensive audio and midi editing? Is maschine more suited for “pattern based” music?
Maschine is definitely more “pattern based” since there are no linear tracks, but there’s different ways of working depending on what you do. I mainly use Maschine for the hands on aspect but I also don’t do a lot of vocals, etc. My main audio recording is from external gear which I can sample into Maschine. But I do find sometimes using it in a DAW I can come up with different arrangements quicker.
Ok. Tried this and it partially works. I assign the corresponding midi output channel and the audio input channel. I play some notes and my synth responds and i hear it. But after a minute or two of playing around – the connection is “cut”, leaving the synth stuck with hanging notes. After that, whenever i play some notes – the synth doesn’t respond to incoming midi. I made two other attempts to understand where the problem is coming from: 1) Tried the same thing with my other synths. Same thing happend every time. 2) Tried the same thing but… Read more »
Not sure what could be causing it, I use external synths all the time with no problems, What exactly is your setup, step by step? What type of midi interface are you using?
My interface is the TC Electronic Impact Twin. It’s both an audio and midi interface. My setup is: 1) PC, intel i7 based, 6GB ram, windows 7 etc. 2) TC Impact Twin as interface. 3) Casio PX-5s as my controller. 4) Maschine mkii HW, running on 2.1 software. 5) Several analog mono & poly synths connected to the interface (working properly when sequenced by cubase 5.1). I have the Casio connected to my PC via usb, and identified and checked by Maschine. The synths are connected like this: Midi: midi out of the interface going to the first synth’s midi… Read more »
Hmmm, seems like it should be working with that setup, wonder if Maschine is having issues with the MIDI thru connections? Though I also have a midi thru box that I use and still no issues. Have you tried disconnecting the thru and seeing if you get the issue with just one hooked up? I do remember in earlier versions when using a midi man Maschine would freak out with so many many outputs going but they fixed that at one point and doesn’t seem like that would be your issue since you’re using only one output.
Hey Saintjoe,
One question Man, when I load guitar rig from the sound (by pressing the +) I choose my ext input go to sampling and I start recording the guitar but as soon as I press stop the guitar rig what I loadet I gone and in place of that there is the sampler.
It is quite annoying, im I doing something wrong?
*” the guitar rig what I loaded Is gone and in place of that there is the sampler”
I would suggest you record it to a different group, set maschine to sample in a group separate from GR, and set it to record internal, choose the group/pad you have GR on then it will not replace it.
When i play a song from my iTunes in the sampler it sounds funny on the playback, how do i get a clearer sound?
How are you loading/recording it, and what do you mean it sounds funny?
I’m not loading it, I basically have my iTunes playing in the background & I’m recording the song from there, & it sounds low/distorted
OK, but exactly how are you recording it into Maschine? Are you just recording from your built in mic as it plays out of your speakers? If so, there’s really no way to change the quality of that. It would be better to have an audio interface that allows the you to record streaming audio, or you can use a program like soundflower to capture it.
yea basically recording from my built in mic, iTunes is playing on my laptop & as it plays I’m just pressing record on machine in the sample section, & I’ll definitely check out sound flower
Ahh ok, yeah that’s not going to give really clean results, definitely checkout soundflower.
Hey how do I set my microphone up in maschine to be capable to sample vocals?
In another video you did (which I forgot to save) you showed a example of recording music from your phone into the sampler how do I set that up is it a special wire or something ?? I also noticed in the video you sampled something from a midi keyboard those were the keyboards own sounds??
ok I understand how to hook up mic to maschine , thru your interface
No doubt fam, yep, anything you want to sample goes through your interface.
Saint Joe. Couldnt I record my track break it down through the sampler then export. But how do I save the file once its recorded. I use to do it all the time. It would export out as a wav file. Now it saves as a maschine recoding.
You can export your track/project as a wave file if that’s what you mean? From the file export menu. Or you can save your samples directly with the project file from the “save project with samples” option. You can also go into the sampler on the individual samples in the edit tab and save them directly from there.
I’m having trouble getting audio into maschine for sampling and editing.. I’m using an apogee duet interface and am trying to record audio from my iPhone. I brought LIVE WIRE Interconnect cables from guitar center , that came equipped with 2 quarter ts male ends and a phone insert plug on the other end .. I have the quarters plugged in the Duet inputs and the phone line plugged in to my iPhone and the Apogee duet selected in my audio preferences .., but when I play audio I dont see it being detected in Maschines sampler?? How do I… Read more »
Does it work outside of Maschine? Meaning can you hear anything from the phone coming through the Duet when you’re not using Maschine? Did you go into Maschine’s preferences and set the audio input settings to listen to the inputs of the Duet? Did you set the inputs to properly listen? Does the Duet have any input settings in terms of signal type or level?
thanks, SAINTJOE I think I first needed to set the inputs in the apogee software ..I now see the signal being received from the phone and the signal is coming into MASCHINE perfectly …THANKS, A LOT
Ahh ok, glad it’s working fam!
hey IM Having trouble with Maschine 2 version 2.8.2 I am trying to sample in Maschine using my smart phone . MY INTERFACE IS THE DUET 2 .. I have sound coming through and being recognized by the duet when I switch inst 1-2 from (+4 dBu) to (inst) I have sound coming through and being visually represented and recognized by my interface …But when Inside maschine software inside the sample section I am not getting any playback visual or audio .. IN PREFERENCE AUDIO MENU= I HAVE THE DUET SELECTED AS MY INTERFACE AND inside the Sampler section I… Read more »
If you’re not getting any input it sounds like you do not have those inputs setup in preferences to go to your inputs 1 and 2, other than that I would say make sure your duet doesn’t have any mixer/routing options that you need to enable.
Maschine is super basic with inputs, as long as you choose the interface and have set the inputs in preferences you should be able to chose them in the sample input section.
no the inputs are set to inst1 and inst2 still same issue
if you look in this thread a few comments back I was the user Bucky hamilton You resolved this same issue for me every thing was fine… I’ve taken a break from maschine and since then there have been some updates that seem to be creating this Dilemma
Looking back at the other response, it was an issue with the configuration of the duet. I do not have a duet so I don’ t know how it’s mixer works. If you see input on the duet but don’t see any sort of input in Maschine then it’s not making it from the duet mixer into Maschine at some point. I’d suggest you double check the settings within the duet mixer software itself, make sure you have the latest drivers, and check to make sure it is compatible with the latest version of Maschine. Maschine can only record what’s… Read more »
