Hey what’s good fam!
Just wanted to share a way you can use Maschine without actually using it’s internal sequncer, sounds, etc.
For those of you working in DAWs with the proper routing, you can send MIDI from the Maschine plugin to whatever else you have loaded in your DAW.
That means you can use the scales or chords to trigger other sounds inside of your DAW
I’m using Studio One 3 in this video, but I know other hosts like Ableton, Bitwig and Cubase would support this type of routing.
No MIDI feedback loops to worry about either because you’re just using Maschine to trigger other instruments.
Check it out, and of course if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Nice one dude!!! That’s really really DOPE!! Always wonder if that would work. With the adding of Studio One 3 Chorder, you have more programmable scales and chord features than Maschine Studio. We got options fellas!!!
Thanks bro! Yeah, that’s true. This one was more for those that don’t have options like that in their daw, or for the people that just like how Maschine handles it. Definitely plenty of options, this is just one of those different ways to use the tools you have type of videos.
I cant get this to work qith ableton live any tips?
Perhaps it’s because I only have audio units of all my plugins installed?
Yes, you need to use VST for this to work as the AU format doesn’t support MIDI output.
If i install the maschine vst will it send midi to my other Audio Units or do i need to reinstall all of my plugins as vsts?
It should send to anything that can receive midi, it’s just midi output doesn’t work with AU plugins.
All sorted, just reinstalled maschine as VST and it works fine with all other AU’s.
Cheers saintjoe
Cool!
Thanks for doing this tutorial with Maschine Mikro! Very helpful info!
No problem!
Yeah this is DOPEEEE !!
Word bro!
Huge! Thanks for this. Is there a way to play the chords in a less rigid manner without having adjust them manually? This is just to make sound more realistic.
I’m not sure what you mean by less rigid, you can use the chord sets, or just use chords based around different scales and keys. I’m assuming maybe you meant rigid in reference to the chord sets?
No SJ. I meant less rigid in the sense that the notes don’t play at the same time. So it sounds more realistic in how it plays.
Oh yes! I had that feature on the roland fa-08 and loved it, they called it a “roll” feature. It’s probably the main reason I don’t use chord mode, because when I play chords manually there’s a slight delay between notes. Currently there’s no way to do this.
Would the humanise feature do it?
Which humanize feature are you referring to?
Never mind. I’m tripping. I was thinking humanise in studio one that you use on drums. But that might mess things up.
Ahh well, you could still always manually edit the midi notes 🙂
You may be able to use humanize on it as well, or any other midi editing options.
Alright cool. Good looking out bro.
No doubt
hi..how i can do the same in fl studio 12 .thx 😉
I’m not sure if FL allows the proper routing to do this. Are you able to send midi between internal tracks, from a vst inside of FL? I don’t remember this being the case which is why you have to put it in controller mode to sequence Maschine inside of FL. The scales/chords and other modes will not work when Maschine is in controller/midi mode.
THX a lot..
No problem!
Hey Saint Joe. So does this not work with anything in Logic then? 🙁
No, because AU plugins do not support midi output.
Ok thanks man. Gutted :-/
Yeah, just a limit of all AU plugins in general.
nice vid – i have machine playing chords on the poly synth in bigwig but i am struggling to get bigwig to record it – perhaps you could a quick vid i probably need to change the routing ??
cheers
G
Do you have that track (polysynth) record enabled? It sounds like you have the routing configured properly if you’re getting the plugin to trigger the synth.
I just checked it out and there’s definitely something strange, it seems Bitwig has changed the way routing works. I’ve found a way to get it recorded by using a note receiver device but then you have to remove it in order for the midi to playback the sound on the track as the note device doesn’t let it pass through when playing back. Definitely weird, gonna hit them up and see what they say about it.
Thanks – keep me posted really need this to work – you the man 🙂
Seems like they’ve changed something man in one of their updates, because it doesn’t work the same as it used to. Gonna try to find out. I have a work around just in case but I’d rather see if they are aware of the issue first lol.
Hey what OS are you using?
10.10.5
Very frustrating hope u can suss it out
Here you go bro https://maschinetutorials.com/using-maschine-2-3-chord-mode-in-bitwig-studio/
Cheers bruv 🙂
Thx!! Quick question. I got one working by routing the midi to the host/channel 1 in Maschine, and set the Ableton “midi from” input to Maschine. However, if i want to do this for another track in this same Ableton project, do i need to load another instance of the maschine vst or can i route maschine midi to multiple Ableton tracks from the one Maschine vst instance?
The problem is Ableton doesn’t let you decide which MIDI channel you receive from a plugin track, you could send multiple MIDI channels to Maschine but you can’t define which channel it’s receiving from. Like you can’t say on the MIDI track “receive from Maschine channel 3” for example. So just keep that in mind when setting up your routing.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. Happy New Year Fam!
No problem, same to you fam!
@saintjoe how is this done inside of fl studio?
FL Studio doesn’t allow this sort of internal routing from one plugin to another plugin from what I can tell.
