In this tutorial I show you the different options available for triggering your scenes. Specifically, how the scene sync settings work and what retrigger means.
I go a little bit into the midi settings for the scenes as well, which gives you an idea of how you can use this to layout your performance in a daw by sending midi notes to Maschine scenes.
These settings are ย helpful for live performance as well as for capturing your performance in a daw.
Super interesting stuff saintjoe! One of my lowest points with Maschine right now is to finish the songs, actually. I’m kinda pissed with that, man ๐ Anyway, I would like to know if I can record this MIDI changes you showed into a final song, like Ableton’s session & arrangement views.
Is it possible?
Not in Maschine, we can’t currently record our performance in Maschine this way (we’ve been pushing for it, I’m sure it will come) but after you create different scenes, you can load Maschine as a plugin in a daw, and set this up so that you can record the midi track in your daw that triggers the Maschine song, if that makes sense?
I will be doing a video on this as well.
Yeah Saint Joe, I would like to see if you would please make a vid showing the MT peeps how to take a a few scenes from maschine and have a daw trigger the maschine song to lay down the finished song. I’m a little confused. Thanks SJ-Keep up the GREAT work.
No doubt, basically after you enable scenes to be triggered by midi notes, you just route a midi track in your daw and point it to the Maschine plugin, hitting keys on your keyboard will trigger the specific scenes based on their midi note.
It would be nice to make a video about it, man! Right now I just achieved to record Maschine’s audio into my DAW, but recording MIDI events would be awesome. I could change some of my beats without repeating lots of things, you know…
Thanks again. This forum is improving my workflow a lot.
Keep the good work!
yeah, you can just turn on the midi settings for scenes, then you can arrange your song in your daw by sending midi to maschine’s scenes, will have a video on it ๐
I didn’t get time to dabble with the scene features fully and this helps so much. Coming from the MPC2000xl that song mode was super easy…. but Maschine is not that complicated
either – you just need to play around with it. Good vid SJ!
I agree, song mode on the mpc is def easy, Maschine isn’t so bad once you understand it, just different, but could still use some improvements, I’ve definitely made my wishes known ๐
Dope video bro. Midi triggering the scenes definitely makes changes to your tracks easier to do without any hassle.
Thanks for the vid SJ…it was very informative!!!
An easy way to record into your DAW if you want to change the arrangement of your tune. Very useful tutorial for sure, ahhh they all are ๐
Enjoy fellas! There’s a lot here in this Maschine ๐
with the retrigger can use the the note repeat fuction? that would be dope if it can
it’s not a note, unless you set your pads to midi notes, load Maschine in a daw, and set the scenes to midi notes, then trigger the scenes with midi notes from the pads lol
long way around, basically it’s not setup to use note repeat but you can trick into working with midi
Thanks Saintjoe! I was wondering what those buttons were for.
no doubt fam!
Hey Saint Joe. Had Maschine for a week now and lovin it. Your tutorials are great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Got a question about scenes and triggering. When I trigger between scenes, the new scene starts but the previous scene continues to play through as well. Is this because of the way I recorded my loops?
Sounds like you need to edit your samples/loops, because if they are longer than your pattern they will still play through on the next scene, I say adjust the endpoint of them so the part you are not using in the track doesn’t play at all.
I”m using prime loops. I have proper bpm set and # of bars.
The loop will continue to play through entire scene after I stopped play. Is this normal with loops?
Bare with me as I am totally new to producing.
My interest is producing electro house using packs like prime loops, loopmasters etc. Do you have any tips?
Cheers
How are you triggering them and where? Are you triggering them at the start of the pattern and is the pattern the exact length? That’s the only way it will work, if you trigger the loops in the middle of the pattern, etc, they will overlap unless you have the same loops on the same pad in the next pattern and you set the polyphony on the pad to 1 so it cuts itself off.
You could also try changing the playback type form oneshot to adsr so you can tell it exactly how long to play in the pattern, that way it won’t overlap on you.
Whats good St. Joe? Great tutorial! I’m having an issue with setting my secne’s to midi notes then triggering them. When I set the scene’s to midi then attempt to trigger the with my MPK61 or the Maschine pads in midi mode it does not trigger the scenes. Instead the selected sound in whatever group is selected gets triggered. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Another question. Is it possible to record scene midi data into ableton live while using maschine externally and having it synced via midi clock? basccially what I am trying to do is use an… Read more »
make sure you dont’ have sounds to midi notes or any other midi settings setup on the groups, it should work with no problem, and you should be able to record the midi into live if you have the ability to route midi from maschine to live when using both standalone.
Hey saint Joe
Would you be able to do an in depth tutorial on the step sequencer? I dont see one on here.
Any tips you have would be great.
Thanks
Sure, It’s on the list fam, keep your eyes peeled.
thanks
Cool – looking forward to more tutorials on having scenes record into the DAW as midi.
On that note – something that might be a cool touch to the site, is that when you view a video – and there is another related video or videos – it would be cool if there was a ‘Related Videos’ link or sidebar.
I know that you have things grouped in the main side navigation – but a little feature like ‘Suggested Videos’ or ‘Further Videos’ might help people build on the knowledge progressively.
Keep up the great work SJ – appreciated!
Cool, will add a “related post” section under the video, thanks. Glad you dig it. The midi video has been posted as well.
Cool – I’ll watch the midi video now.
cool bro
Really helpful vid
Cool, glad to help!
That was DOPE! Recording the performances (inside Maschine…and not even use a DAW) would be ideal.
Yeah bro, we are all waiting for that one! lol
nice one!
Glad to help fam!
oh man! been looking for this! good lookin out fam
Good news fam!
Saint Joe, this is the shit! exactly what i’ve been looking for!!
Good news fam! Enjoy!
Hey SJ Man, I’m having serious issues trying to get my maschine controller to send out midi notes so that i can capture my performance in my DAW (Ableton). Before I even get to Ableton though, i’ve configured my Maschine software & my keyboard is sending midi out to maschine and scene changes fine (not from middle C though – i’m low down the octaves), but the controller just doesn’t want to play ball? i guess it’s the alignment with the root notes on the template, but i’ve tried using your template and created my own but it doesn’t seem… Read more »
You have to put maschine in midi controller mode first and make sure the notes line up to the notes your scenes are responding to. Then send a midi track to maschine and trigger those notes to record them.
If I want to sample my live performance internal I jus have to Sample Int and choose Master as Input, right?
yes that will work, check this out
https://maschinetutorials.com/recording-your-live-performance-as-an-audio-file/
Hey,
When i put my mikro into midi mode(Which im presuming is just Shift – F1) , and hit pad 1 it jumps to scene 13 and the 16 pad will be scene 28.
How do i get it to go pad 1 to scene 1 please?
Cheers
Mark.
Check which group you’re on, in midi mode, the pads send different note numbers depending on which group you’re on. Try group C and see if it lines up properly for your if not, change it to the other groups then it should trigger scene one correctly.
I’m assuming you’ve turned on the scene midi options so that they respond to midi notes?
Cheers for the reply ๐
Scene midi settings is set to enable,
Its strange whatever group im in when i press pad one it jumps to scene 13.
My midi keyboard is worse, when i press middle C it jumps to scene 61
Midi Note Channel is 1
root note c-2
Midi program change channel 12
Ive half worked it out,
changing the root note to c-1 has set the pads up correctly so Pad 1 now plays scene 1 etc.
Still working on the keyboard thang lol
and hitting octave down on my keyboard got the keyboard to go to scene 1.
sorted.
You typed while I was sleep, but yes, I was going to say change the keyboard octave ๐
Glad you got it man!
Can u show how to trigger scenes in Daw and how to record midi with it and audio etc etc
All of those topics are covered in the DAW integration section, for example, check this one
https://maschinetutorials.com/recording-scene-changes-into-your-daw-via-midi-notes/
Just joined and this tutorial alone is worth the money!!
Thanks for all the info ๐
Cool man! Welcome to the site and we hope you find many more tutorials that help ya!
Here I am again,,, lol,,,, is there a way to stop the loops of a scene. I just want my whole song to play once and then stop by itself.
if you’re doing it in a daw you can just recall a blank scene at the end, but currently it will keep looping the scenes in maschine, hopefully they allow it to just play one time through in an update
but it will stop when I export it as audio right?
yes indeed fam
Thanks alot,,,,, this site is priceless. I just finished my first full remix (competition) just using the Maschine with Komplete 8. Took me about 3 days and the deadline is today. There is no way I would’ve been able to complete it without this site. I will post a link shortly. Sure there others on here that’s doing it as well. it’s the Bjork remix contest on beatport.
dope man! make sure you post it, do you have your MT Connect profile setup? Definitely post it in there man!
Hey MT Crew,
just wanted to let you know this video is not visible ๐
Thanks fam, will get it taken care of for ya ๐
