Hey! Jo, I was all good until I got to audio & midi setup, I noticed in routing under input it says maschine R not connected & L not connected, can you help me out wit that. I’m using the audio 2 DJ usb with my Mac
Yeah fam, click on where it says not connected and put you connections you want to use in there.
Hey SJ,
My Maschine finally arrived thank God. I have a problem with my inputs though. Only two inputs are listed for some strange reason. If I click and hold down I can see the others but can only connect to two. I am on the mac by the way and I am talking about the digi 002 so i won’t be surprised if it is down to the crappy digi drivers.
Any help would be appreciated.
Maschine only sees the inputs available from your audio device, also are you using the 1.6 beta or still on 1.5 version? 1.6 enables more inputs by default.
Hey SJ,
yeah is what puzzles me. I upgraded to 1.6 and I see inputs 1-4 L/R so thats 8 all together if you think of them as mono ins. The outs however list 18 outs including the adat ones.
If i go into click and hold on the input tab I see the other inputs so why are the not listed and available for selection
You only get 4 stereo inputs, but you can change which inputs on your digi they listen to, you get 16 stereo outputs. So if you want to use other inputs you use the drop down to pick which ones to associate with Maschine’s 4 stereo inputs.
Of course you can use them as mono inputs as well.
Yeah I get you now. Thanks man
No problem yo
thanks for the on/off midi controller tip because i was just having that problem yesterday and early this morning. love what your doing and keep it up.
awesome man, glad to help, thanks for the support!
Just a question……. can you use asio4all instead maschine drivers ?
asio4all is for audio, maschine doesn’t have audio drivers. yes you can use asio4all with maschine, but not instead of maschine drivers, as maschine drivers are for midi
Thanks for the quick reply…… glad I joined your site. Good to see another positive brother.
no doubt bro, glad to help.
i’m trying to follow your tutorails with mashine on but the audio cut out on the videos been trying to configure my audio settings but they still dont work when both are on at the same time …..
sounds like your sound device doesn’t allow you to use multiple audio sources at the same time? what device are you using? Set your internal soundcard to be the default and set Maschine to use your audio interface.
not quite sure what your are say but if yor saying let maschine run on the default intrernal soundcard it’s not picking it up in the preferance box i do use asio4all to run may daws anthe internal sound card is via HD audio hope this helps you to help me lol
No I assumed you had an external audio interface in addition to your internal one. With asio4all it takes over your audio, so you’re not going to be able to hear anything else if you have asio4all active in maschine or any other software, it will be dedicated to whatever you have using asio at the time.
okay on the way to sam ash to get an external …..got any ideas?
depends on if you use firewire or usb, I use a focusrite saffire pro, it’s firewire. NI has their Ta6, ta10, and komplete audio 6 devices, as well as the ak1. I’ve used all but the ak1, they work fine.
thanks alot man for our help and staying wih me on this
No doubt fam.
problem solved got an alesis i02 express working fine thanks should of came to you first lol
there you go son!
omg…i wanna thank you guys for this website. i was hesitant to pay dough for this and it not be what you guys been promoting it to be but i said i was gonna go for it and i did. i just watched all of 5 videos in regards to midi and the thought of getting rid of machine went out the door. all my walls that were hindering me from moving forward were answered that quick. you guys rock and now i can get my game on so i can put up some videos. thank you guys.
That’s what’s up bro! Glad to help. Yeah man we just try to put the info out there and let folks do what they do! We try to organize it in a way that lets you find what you need and keep it moving! Glad you found what you need man 🙂
I wish all of my equipment would have such a good site!!!
LOL glad to help fam!!
This helped me solve my Ableton accidental input from midi devices, for some reason my workflow bounces from standalone and plugin mode. When Im in standalon I use a Axis-49 harmonic scale input for chords which is beyond amazing. When in ableton however… I like to use the Axis 49 for other VSTs or ableton instruments. And for some reason I never considered that I could disable the midi input in Maschines pref. and I would constantly accidentally input notes when I left maschine in rec mode.
Cool thanks again!
Great news!
I have read many times on the NI Forums that Maschine does not like small buffers? In my situation at 64 when I attempt to sample once the sample is recorded into Maschine it always comes out distorted? Even though when Im playing it or during recording sounds completely fine. At 512 I dont have this issue. Any idea why???
Sounds more like an interface issue. Maschine only performs as good as your interface. If your setting is good at 512 then just roll with that.
Hi StJoe
Since i didnt succed to connect Maschine with my DAW, maybe its because my midi out/inputs, so i put the status ON on everything.
here a sc (screen shot):
http://www.casimages.com/img.php?i=111017070546119340.png
Is it OK to stay like that ?
So what exactly are you trying to do? Use Maschine as a midi controller in your DAW? The Maschine midi settings will not effect your DAW, you need to setup Maschine as a midi input inside of your DAW to use the controller in your DAW.
Hey Joe, Hi just bought an apogee duet for my new machine.
they audio out is fine but I cant seem to sample in.
Make sure you setup the input routing, go into the routing tab and set it to the apogee inputs
whats up saintloe. I haven’t been having a problem with using my akai keyboard inside of maschine. but the last few days the keyboard wont respond.and when I go to turn it on as the videos says, neither the maschine hardware or the keyboard switches to on. but the maschine hardware still works.
when you turn what on? Make sure the akai isn’t in use by something else, or try installing the akai drivers again.
I was talkin about turning on the keyboard. but Im re-installing the akai now.
cool fam
and its still not working.
this doesn’t sound like a problem with maschine but with your keyboard…does it work in any other software?
maschine is the only software im running on this computer
did anything change to when your keyboard stopped working? I don’t have an akai over here so I can’t test it, but if you’re not having any issues with maschine’s hardware/software then it sounds like an issue with the akai somewhere.
inside the midi settings, the maschine won’t switch on either, but its still working.
maschine will automatically work with it’s software, but if you can switch it in that means it’s not seeing the midi input of maschine’s controller. Do you have the akai hooked up via midi or usb?
usb.
try it with a midi cabled plugged into the maschine controller
ok. I’ll try that. thanks for the help man! Im sure we’ll be talking again. lol
Cool fam lol, lemme know
Yo @saintjoe anyway to get my USB turntable to record directly in maschine when I sample? I use one of those numark ttusb turntables that I’ve saw knock use in some of his vids? any help is much appreciated.

Best way is to get some rca to 1/8″ adapter so you can plug it into your audio input on your computer. I mean you could use the usb input but you would have to change your settings in maschine to use that as the input, then change it back to your computer speakers to hear it when you’re done. Probably easier to go to an electronics store and get an rca to 1/8″ cable so you can just record from your computers line input.
sry I meant to say I don’t have an interface just yet(saving up) I just wanted to know if there was a workaround.
no problem, see if you can find the cable/adapter I mentioned, it should help
thx joe
no problem
When i load 32 bit version of maschine my sound works
when I load 64 version , with same settings .. i get a very distorted sound on everything .. and I need the 64 bcause Traktor and Guitar rig and stuf are 64 bit :p
the sound shouldn’t change, unless you need updated drivers for your audio interface, does it have 64 bit drivers?
yes just checked , and everything is up to date ..
and recently i got many crashes with maschine 🙁
but the thing is . i got a 5.1 surround system .. and I can only choose 2 monitors . i dont know if it has something to do with it ?
it just weird , 32 bit workds 64 lame sound
It sounds like an issue with the audio device in my opinion, you should be able to load guitar rig in 32 bit as well, it comes with both. And since you can’t load traktor inside maschine it doesn’t matter if it’s 32 bit or 64. But I definitely think the issue is with the audio system drivers. What audio interface are you using?
it’s a onboard audio .. if that is what you mean ?
my maschine wont even start anymore
23_07_2012 20_17_29 – Maschine (1.7.2 (R7746))-mini.nicrash ->> that is the error that eccurs everytime
sorry for bad english !
Highly suggest a dedicated audio device for music production, as for Maschine not starting, try it in 32 bit mode instead. I don’t know how to read NI crash logs lol.
Hey Saintjoe! I couldnt seem to connect to the forums for tech support so im replying here. For some reason my email login doesnt work. mattleecarter@gmail.com MY QUESTION: Bascially I need to know why my maschine doesnt work well as a standalone MIDI controller, Im using Maschine 2 and a VST called Steven Slate Drums, basically when I use maschine as just a midi controller the pads dont hit nearly as hard as my midi alesis q49 keyboard and maschine also doesnt trigger other things in SSD like room slip in a sample but my midi keys works fine. My… Read more »
You can also try adjusting the velocity curve, change it to soft3 to get a bit more velocity out of the pads.
As for the forum, make sure you create an account then we will have to manually activate it for you.
Also you can always email me directly at help@maschinetutortials.com 🙂
Great thanks man!
Where abouts are the Velocity Curves located?
open the maschine software, go to preferences, and on the hardware tab you can change them.
Wassup man!! endlessly helpful tutorials man!! Question… I have been running through the tutorials learning and learning and doing, picked up a pair of KRK 5’s and Im trying to run through them. Can you guide me through as if I am an infant leaning to walk?? Haha Input, output info please. I am trying to run maschine, through an Maudio track pro, a Mac book, as well as into logic eventually. Understanding that the outputs on the backs of the KRK’s are XLR, I have a 1/4 inch jack coming out of the balalnced output into an RCA converter… Read more »
So what you want to do is, hook up the interface via usb, then make sure it’s setup inside the maschine preferences like in this video.
From the output of your interface, you run cables to your monitor inputs and it should work for you. You should be able to use 1/4 inch cables for the monitors they should have both xlr and 1/4 inputs
I have a question about the MIDI i/o setup – is there any reason i would want to turn off the ins or outs for my two keyboards if i want to be able to use both of them at random? i have an akai mpk25 and a korg tr workstation. my ins are: TR (KEYBOARD) Akai MPK25 (Port 1) Akai MPK25 (Port 2) Akai MPK25 (Port 3) Maschine Controller (MIDI intput port 0) Maschine Controller Virtual intput Maschine Virtual Intput and my outs are: TR (SOUND) Akai MPK25 (Port 1) Akai MPK25 (Port 2) Maschine Controller (MIDI output port… Read more »
I would turn off any midi outputs you don’t plan to use, but you can leave both midi inputs turned on without any issues.
Why is that? (Why would I want to use outputs or avoid leaving them on?) I’m sure I just haven’t watched enough videos yet, but I’d like to be able to use the transport controls from my MPK. This is my first time using the Maschine software – I’ve thus far only used the device as a MIDI controller in Logic – and I haven’t really loaded anything to the interface, yet. I’m hoping this standalone will be all I need to use my Maschine as a master controller to play music / samples I’ve produced in the lab and… Read more »
Well, you don’t have to, I just like to turn off anything I’m not using, and it sounds like you’re not using anything that would require midi output from your devices. You can’t map the tranport on the mpk to Maschine, it doesn’t allow midi mapping of it’s transport section, you have to use the maschine controller for that. You can use maschine standalone for triggering your samples and such with no issues, just really depends on exactly what you want to do in terms of how you need to setup your projects.
so there’s not even any reason to leave on the Maschine outputs?
Only if you have something physically connected to the outputs that you want to send midi to.
right on. thank you 🙂
No problem!
Hi, I am not sure how to articulate my question properly, but ill try my best. I don`t get sound on maschine after I play any videos on my computer( tutorial videos) and vice versa. For example if I played around with maschine I have to turn off maschine and software in order to watch videos, or if I watched videos while maschine was on I have to turn off maschine close all videos and than turn maschine back on in order to get sound going. I don`t really understand how it works or what settings I have to change.… Read more »
That is a limitation of your audio interface, it sounds like you do not have a multi client device, so it will only allow one application to use the audio device at a time. What device are you using? Or if you are using asio4all it’s the same issue, it only allows one app to use it at a time. So when maschine is open/playing you won’t get sound from your browser or any other app, and if you have your browser using the audio then maschine will not be able to play anything. In order to get around it… Read more »
Ok awesome for the fast reply. You are right It was Asio 4allv2. I changed driver to WASAPI (shared mode) from ASIO. It seem to fix the problem. Now I have second question. This actions seem to affect Sample rate now it fixed 48k and latency 480 samples. What does it mean? what’s the difference between Asio and WASAPI?
P.S. thank you very much for tutorials great videos very well explained. Even tool like me can follow them =). Keep it up.
Asio allows better performance at lower latency and allows you to use more plugins and effects without audio crackling.
Hey Joe, I’m having trouble setting up my Maschine correctly – I have only had it a week. Yesterday the pads seemed to be working ok. Then I connected my old Triton keyboard through machine (midi cable from the keyboard into the back of machine), now the pads don’t seem to work at all. Very frustrating. My midi inputs are as follows and are all turned on: Maschine Controller (MIDI intput port 0) Maschine Controller Virtual intput Maschine Virtual Intput The above are also outputs which are all turned off. Can you help or offer any suggestions? What have I… Read more »
The only input you need to have turned on is the maschine midi input, which you have the keys hooked to. When you say your pads don’t work, what do you mean? Do the keys work? Hooking up a controller should’t have an impact on your pads.
Thanks for the quick reply Joe.
The pads were not triggering any sounds, however the keys were.
Wouldn’t you believe it, though, I restarted my Mac and the pads are now working.
Definitely weird lol, but glad it’s working!
Can I ask one other thing real quick, Joe?
I’ve worked out how to add a wav file to Maschine and assign it to the pads.
When I press the pads it plays the entire wav file – in this case an entire song.
What do I need to set up so that the sound only plays for as long as i’m pressing the pad rather than play the entire wav file from 1 single press of a pad?
Thanks again for your help.
You’ll want to set your pad to be adsr instead of oneshot
