Recently saw a question online about how to use an old school technique from the mpc to turn a snare or other drum into a bass
You can use this method to create bass, synths, etc.
It’s a good way to learn what the different sampling tools do as well.
So I made a sub bass using a snare from the Maschine library
This is something we used to do on the mpc because of course it was a sampler and didn’t have instruments, etc.
You don’t NEED this method with Maschine, but it’s always fun to learn new ways to create your own sounds.
Cool!
Something else….when you add an Fx to a sound in maschine do you know how to turn it off from the hardware?
In the software you just click on the drop down and select ‘none’ but I can’t seem to find how to do it via the hardware.
Cheers, John.
you can’t remove it from hardware but you can use shift+hit the module’s button to mute the fx, it’s the same as hitting the module number in the software to disable it but keep it in the chain.
Great question John. Even greater answer SJ. That was something I was wondering about, but never got around to asking.
Also excellent tutorial. I’m gonna mess with this a bit tonight if I get a chance.
Cool fam, yeah, don’t know why we can’t remove them from the software, only replace…crazy.
Hey I just checked, if you do a shift/browse from the hardware, on the module you want to erase, you can highlight where it says (none) and it will remove it 🙂
may have to do a video for it lol
Great tutorial! Another lonely nite on the sofa for the wife lol. I’m goni have fun wi this! Cheers sj
Don’t make it too many lonely nights for her lol, you’ll regret it 🙂
LMAO…Yeah, cause them it’ll turn into lonely nights for you in the bed! I know from experience…smh.
Hahahaha lol, not good!
soooo ILL
figured you’d like something like this one seth lol
Great one man! I learned something cool today. Thanks!
Cool bro!
Thanks SJ!
I’ve been working like a madman but now have this weekend to get into something, so thanks for the tip 🙂
I also got Komplete 7 yesterday so I won’t be going out for a bit, lol, not just cos of playing with it but paying for it too!
(Seems like a good deal though compared to buying everything individually right enough. I play a bit of guitar too so I was fancying checking out Guitar Rig too)
Cool man, have fun!
Thats hard!
What up fam lol, have fun wit it!
thnx for the vid. More technique.
No problem
what is the best bass sound in the maschine lib that will give the primo and pete rock thick bass sound? thinks for the snare to sub bass tip. What if i started with a bass kick? whould it be easier?
Yeah it would def be easier if you started with a bass kick. Have a look at some of the sub or electric bases. Maybe even load up a waveform of a sine wave, pitch it down, and go from there.
Thanks will give it a try
No problem fam. I will also do a video showing how to make it with a basic sine wave.
WOW!!! that’s DOPE as HELL! i like that little lead in that you were making. #gottatryit
word LOL have fun!
tried the tutorial. didn’t get the results that i wanted. maybe i need the snare that you have!
Yeah it will sound different depending on your snare, download the actual sound I made from the link above to see how it’s done.
Hey Joe, just curious – why do you apply two instances of filtering (once on the Sampler, and again as an FX)?
You did the same thing in the sub-bass tutorial, too.
Wouldn’t one filter at the correct cut-off do the same thing?
I preferred the effect Ac two filters as it gives it a different sound, just a personal preference.
Oh, ok…I thought that if you were using two low-pass filters, then whichever was set to the lowest cut-off would be taking effect – and the 2nd filter (with the higher cut-off) would be having no effect, since those frequencies would have already been filtered by the 1st low-pass?
(If you get what I mean.)
No they don’t automatically cancel each other out
Sorry Joe, I don’t follow…
A filter, by its definition, filters out frequencies beyond a certain point – so if LP Filter A has a cut-off at 1Khz, for example, what is the point of having a second (LP) filter with a higher cut-off?
What is the second filter going to be filtering if there are is no more audible frequencies above the cut-off of the first?
There is still stuff left over, also it sometimes helps to smooth out a sound. Also all filters are not the same so cutoff on one type will still leave room for another filter. Ever wondered why there are multiple filters in some synths? You can do some cool stuff with multiple filters. No rules, just sound, if I don’t like how the first filter worked or I want to smooth something out or filter it even more I throw on another.
Ok, cool – I’ll play with it a little and see if I can pick the difference.
Does the filter on the sampler have a different slope than the filter in Maschine’s FX?
I always felt the sampler filter was very basic compared to the fx filter, just to my ears. So sometimes depending on what I’m going for I like to throw another one on to smooth things out. When designing sounds there are no rules, you just go with what sounds good to you, don’t over-think it 🙂
