I’m VERY particular about how my stuff is organized on my computer, and thus, in Maschine.
I did this video for a good friend recently and wanted to share it.
I show exactly how I like to organize all my loops, drums, licks, samples, etc.
I also show how this relates to the Maschine browser and how it helps my workflow.
I hope you find it useful…you’re getting a peek into my mind right here…I’m a little obsessive about organizing my sounds

That was awesome. I think we should all forget trying to upload samples into maschine and have it like you do. Much cleaner and things don’t get mixed up with maschine sounds etc.
How many hard drives do you have my friend?
Figured you would like this one. At this point I have a main drive, and 3 sound drives plus an external backup drive. I’m about to get another HD here shortly so I can keep all my projects on their own HD as well.
I wish solid state drives were cheaper. I guess I’m gonna use that box!
Mmmmm solid state lol

Ha hell ya bro im the same way SJ I have spent day’s organizing all of my stuff and getting it nice and neat. I almost felt like I was being to anal about it so its good to see that someone else does the same thing. It just makes it easier to find what you are looking for. I dont have nearly as much as you do cause I just started all this but im gettin there. Good video man thanks!!!!!!
They could probably put folks like us on the show “obsessive” or whatever it’s called lol.
Yeah man, it’s always been my thing, I just like stuff neat, it’s so quick to find what I want this way. I like to keep my Maschine browser neat as well, so most of the time only thing I have in there of mine is kits or plugin presets 🙂
Yeah. It’s good to start neat. Cause it can get real bad real quick. And it’s way more time consuming to try to organize than it is to maintain.
Yes indeed it is my brotha, yes indeed lol.
So funny to find out just how much we share the same style for organizing I’ve been doing the same thing for a while dude lol!! The only thing is my folders are organized according to my preferences and I might not have as many drives separating my content like you do I just have 2 terabyte drives lol!!!
NO doubt fam!! It’s always good to see you’re not alone lol.
I’m still trying to figure out the best way to handle things I’ve sampled INTO Maschine. Like if I sample a break off a piece of vinyl, and name it, when I make edits (Truncate, Normalize, etc.), Maschine keeps making copies of the files (“SampledBreak[2]” etc.), so things get messy quick. Can I simply keep the final edit and delete everything else, or are these files that Maschine generates just pointing to the original file? And do I have to keep everything in Recordings or is there some way to tell Maschine to save these samples in a folder of… Read more »
My main advice for stuff you sample into a project is to always “save project with samples” that way all your samples are there with your project.
If you have a particular sample you know you want to have in your library, you can go into the sample page and do a “save as” the same way you save patterns, instruments, etc.
This will allow you to save the sample wherever you want.
Yeah, I always choose “Save project with samples” (learned that lesson the hard way!), but sometimes I sample a bunch of stuff off a record that I may not use at that moment, so as far as the second option (“Save As,”) I’m still wondering– will this just be an alias that points to the original file? Because when I’ve saved sampled material as “Sounds” in Maschine, then trashed the original sample (or renamed it), the Sounds would no longer load. I’m just unclear on when Maschine is making copies and when it’s just making aliases. Thanks for your help,… Read more »
No dout fam, it can be a lil confusing at first 🙂
A sound or kit in maschine is just a patch, you still need the samples for them to work. If you delete the samples, the patch will have nothing to load. However, if you save a sample using “save as” it actually saves the sample itself to wherever you wish, it’s not an alias or whatever. This gets you away from having everything in the default “recordings” folder.
Perfect, that’s what I need to know. Will rock the save as from now on. Thanks!
Cool bro, glad to help ya!
Hi Fam, nice site, Saintjoe doin great man, i’ve just added to the library a whole bunch of samples and after tagging them i’ve discovered that the size of the folder increased.
Just for the experiment purposes, i’ve untagged them and the size of the folder stayed in the “increased mode”.
So what i’m on about is – does the tagging of sounds affects the sound quality;
I’m not really familiar with how tagging is happening.
So when you tag a sound, you write something to the file…
Sup fam. No it doesn’t affect the sound quality it just writes some identification data to the header of the samples.
Thanks Saintjoe
No problem fam
Great response. One More thing.
For example i’ve tagged everything how i want and i’ve installed maschine to another computer.
How can i transfer the tags?
Basically what i want is to have the same browser with all the tags i’ve made on another computer.
if it’s the same samples you can import them again on your other computer, just click import and don’t tag them, just click OK, they should pick up the tags properly.
Try it on a small selection of samples first to make sure it works, but once you tag them it’s in the samples themselves
Thanks again
I’ve got the idea
Have a nice weekend.)
cool man 🙂
Damn I would love to have my drives that organize man! Where did you get the Bomb squad sounds from?
LOL, I think Loopmasters sells them if I remember correctly.
