Maschine is pretty open when it comes to routing, and I find the best way to understand how a system works is to build something using the components of that system.
So the best way to really get an understanding of Maschine and it’s fx is to build your own fx, routings, and multi fx!
This tutorial shows how to build your own multi fx, explains a bit about how they work, and also goes into a little bit of automation as well!
have fun!!

All I can say is WooooooW! Good job!
This changes my production mind state. The fact that you can save it and recall it at any time is crazy!
Cool man, have fun with it, possibilities are wiiiiiide open man! Maschine’s routing is crazy really lol.
This is insane…Im gonna go make SOME BEATS!!!
have fun!
Nice one, loving this site, keep up the good work guys.
cool thanks!
Yo Saint Joe, am still on 1.5 does it mean am not up to date ?
As u using 1.6 right??
yes, 1.6 adds the extra modules but you can do this still in 1.5 you will just have 2 fx modules per pad instead of 4 modules
Wow! Just beginning to see how deep Maschine can go? Great video.
yeah man, it’s very deep, it’s like those little Asian dolls, one inside of the other 🙂
Can I route my Korg Kaoss (kp3) via Maschine? At the moment its connected via Ableton (which isnt ideal as I wanna use Maschine as stand alone)
I’m not sure, I don’ t have one. I know you can route it in through the inputs as a synth but I’m not sure how it would work for routing to as an fx box, does it have a vst editor or something to let you load it in a daw?
Thanks Joe!
Its given me so ideas…..
Cool, glad to give the ideas 🙂
So you can basically use this technique to create a faux Aux Channel for Reverbs and stuff..
Wow. this video is priceless
Yes this is how you would setup Aux routing/channels, but also multi fx where one effect feeds into the next 🙂
ive had maschine for 2 months now and have only been stacking efects through the tabs given on each sound but THIS makes a everything soooo much more flexible 😀
you can stack in the tabs and THEN route to another pad for stacking too :)….maschine is very flexible with it’s fx routing
Sup Joe whats the difference between using an input module in an MFX and not consider that the audio will still pass thru without it?
input modules are really useful for external stuff but also it just helps keep things organized so you know where the beginning of your chain is. But you don’t need it, you will still be able to hear it.
Gotcha, thanks for the quick reply
No problem bro. I just find it easier to remember that it’s the input when you do that 🙂
especially when you got a bunch of fx chained together.
yo st joe I observed that you have a lot of pluggins can u let me know where u got your pluggin stuff so that I can load up my maschine with some pluggin. thanks
Just depends, you can buy plugins from hundreds of different companies, just depends on what you’re looking for. I review a lot of them on soundsandgear.com, just go to the product rating page and you’ll see a list of a bunch of them.
thanks man
No problem fam!
this is starting to sink in…been having a hard time grasping effects routing – but i think i finally got it – thanks!
Cool man, it takes a little bit to understand it but once you get it it’s cool
so i got the routing happening and i get it….but when i go to automate the filter sweeping, it’s not recording it….i was able to do it before…not sure whats up…even when i move the dot around, it doesn’t draw it in…
Are you automating a filter in a multi fx? At what point are you automating? Can you draw in automation at the bottom?
automating the filter at the end of the effects chain – when i draw it in, it doesn’t do anything either….will retry
normally, on aregular insert, i can automte by grabbingthe perimeter around a knob while it’s recording….
yeah, it should be working both ways, you can shoot over the project if you want and I’ll take a look at it
must have been something weird – i got it going with a new project….but thanks!!! – now the automation is recording – very cool
good news man 🙂
yup!
Wow this is HUGELY helpful. Never would have realized you could do this! Well done SaintJoe; thanks.
One question – What if you want different settings for each effects for each of your patterns/groups? Is that possible, or does the fx chain only recognize the one set of settings that it’s currently on?
You could work that out by drawing in automation on different patterns in the multi fx group
Aaaaaah! Buuuuutiful. Thanks!
no problem!
Dear Saint Joe,
Is there a lesson that explains how to use the multfxs that comes with the expansions series. Lets say Pulswerk.. The first multi efx is BUSS SLAM .. consists of two “soundslots” (in & out) containing FXs .. do you have to route them to other groups to hear the effect ? How does it work exactly? Thanks !!
It would work similar to this video, you can send other groups and sounds to the “input” of that multifx group and it will be effected. The output is just the end of the chain and you can choose to send it to the master or send it to other fx 🙂
I can do a video on using multi fx in general just to make it clear, I will use Pulsewerk since that’s the latest one with multi fx in it. I will try to get it done for you tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Sup bro. This is Matt checkin in from south of the Chi. I just watched the tutorial and as usuall learned somethin I didnt know. i was wondering if you had done any videos on how to use the solid mix series. Mine is in guitar rig but i heard we can get it stand alone for free if we already own it? Basically I want to learn more on using guitar rig in general and making my tracks radio ready or close to it.
No video on the Soilid Mix in particular but yes they are actually standalone versions now, you should have received a download for them if not you can contact NI and they should send it to you since you own the original version.
