There were questions on some tips and tricks for how to get your drums to bang or sound fatter in Maschine.
One way of course is to use a compressor, another classic trick is parallel compression (sometimes called new york compression) when you mix the dry signal with the compressed signal of the track that you’ve sent to an aux bus.
This tutorial shows you how to setup and use a compressor on an aux bus in Maschine to achieve the parallel compression effect.
Definitely try it in your own setup to get the full effect as the video only captures the process and to really appreciate the sound you get you’re gonna want to try it in your setup with your own compressor and fx to find the settings you like the best

dam thats crazy joe… cant wait try that with my waves plugs, maschine is the daw of my dreams now
word fam, fun stuff!
Man! I Needed That! Thanks SJ!
word fam!
What up SJ? I know you said it in the video, but what are some of he benefits of using the Aux sends verses the inserts? Also, can you set up all your Fx’s on one group for your hold projects…eg. your compressors, delays, reverbs, flangers etc?
let’s you use the same fx plugins on multiple sounds without loading it multiple times, so if you’re using the same eq, reverb, compressor, etc…you don’t have to keep loading it, saves on cpu and clutter
can u save a whole group of fx like u have there in group A? can u pull out a whole group of effects u have in group a for example, and load it up in any future project?
yeah, just save it as a group 🙂
thanks for tip Joe…since 1.6 came out its hard for me to sleep…lol the work flow of the maschine is out of this world. I have so many ideas when it comes to music. I guest going to keep banging out beats until i burn out…lol
Yes i ndeed! I love it man, it’s only getting better! Little stuff like this can be very useful and I know all it takes is to see it one time! Keep bangin man!
What a change in sound!! Much better drums now SJ!!! Thanks.
yeah, experiment with it and have fun!
Very decent. I like that technique. Never really used parallel compression. I usually just stick to running the drums through my compression plugs and modify them that way to fatten the drums up but I’m gonna have to try this out.
yeah it’s just another tool, take it and tweak it to your own, I find it adds a different sound than when you do it directly. Just gotta watch for phasing and other artifacts so like anything just use your ears 🙂
See… it is stuff like this that makes the monthly subscription fee well worth its price. Thanks!!!!
Thanks bro! I know stuff like this opens the flood gates of creativity! I know you will have fun with this one!
I needed this video thanks for showing us this. I went and tried it and what a change to my drums.
cool man, have fun!
Yeah this really helped .. I got more bang in my bang.
word fam!! now experiment with it and various types of fx, etc 🙂
Already. Gonna post my beat back lt8 today.. after work with stuff I learned from this vid.used the filter plus 4aux channels with some compression. This site is the truth doe. Oh yeah used The reverse also for the sounds that sounded empty on another to fill the synth s out more. Thanks for knowledge folk.
that’s whasup fam!
That’s some good info right there …
Thanks!
Try it out and see what you think, experiment and customize it to your own liking! Push it to the limits! Maschine is wiiiiiiide open 🙂
Loooooove this vid man !!! Im about to go do it too !!
word fam lol
YES this was perfect for my drums, and you’re right, I probably won’t feel right NOT doing it to my drums from now on…
Good stuff right here, I can’t believe I skipped over this one at first!
No doubt! Have fun wit it fam!
Good to know how, im thinking of all the stuff i have learned from u and knock. Joe i just gotta say thk man……!
word man, glad to help!
omg so sick
not only could you do this for a whole kit but you could set up differant compressers to hit for differant percussion instruments like kic compr, snare comp, high mid and low tom compressers all to differant aux’s as long as they are all loaded under seperate sound slots correct?
Yep you sure can 🙂
that would make for a super fat dynamic mix down.
Yes indeed man
Hi SJ. I’ve just signed up for the fourth time now, and I like these sort of fx routing/matrix tips you provide. I’ve been using the maschine for a fair bit of time now, but with resources like you, it cease to amaze me how much power is under the hood of the Maschine device. Keep it up SJ! You’re the best!
Yeah I know. I need to get an avatar soon. 😀
Peace!
Welcome back sir, you’re always welcome! And yes, we need to see an avatar, you are family sir LOL
How obvious would any phasing issues be?
I can’t say I’ve ever head anything odd when I’ve played with NY compression… is it really easy to spot, or is it kind of a subtle thing?
If you had any phasing you would know it, it almost sounds like a flanger effect
