This is another quick tip with Studio One showing how to drag and drop midi from Maschine, split the midi into single tracks, and bounce to audio, very quick workflow.
There are multiple ways to work with Maschine inside of your daw, and some applications are more flexibile than others.
In this video I just wanted to show some of the flexible ways you can work inside of Presonus Studio One to fully arrange, mix, and complete your tracks

Hey Knock,
Nice tutorial 🙂
How’s things? Everything ok?
Cheers,
John.
Thanks John. Everything is good. Just been busy with Life. Thanks for asking man. Hope you are doing well also.
Yo that’s hot, I wondered if it would do it with the multiple parts like that.
I been trying to get you on Studio One forever lol.
I’m usually dragging in audio, but this would be perfect if you want to make a quick loop but arrange in a DAW, you could drag your midi in, arrange it, then just bounce to audio.
This also gets around the fact that you only have 16 stereo outputs in the maschine plugin, this allows you to have EVERYTHING separate if you wish.
Good one bro, thanks for lookin into it!
Knock! Knock! who Dat! Man I’m Luvin this! I’ve been dragging and dropping my audio from each group by each individual sound into S1, so I can have each sound on their own track for the mix down…This is going to save me a bunch of time, hey maybe I’ll have time now to figure out what is factory content in Maschine..LOL! Luv u Joe! I GOT A MILLION OF THEM!
This is def a time saver, I would usually drag and drop audio, but now it would be easier to get individual sounds and not even have to worry about how many audio outputs you got…
ooh yeah..Reese, long as it’s in Maschine it’s factory I guess huh? 🙂
as long as it’s integrated, its a part of Maschine..LOL!
In that case, Kore is part of Maschine as I’ve integrated Kore presets now 🙂
nah they discontinued kore, that don’t count…LMAO!
It’s still in there, I integrated it…it’s part of Machine now LOL!!
wooooooowwww!!!! now i did not know that one!!! good one knock!!!!
Great videos Knock! S1 rocks!
Like sj it’s the daw I go to when I want things done fast. A feature I REALLY like is the ability to drag an audio file direct to the browser. You can even batch drag multiple files. Très cool! Now Sonar X1 is trying to catch up by implementing this feature.
And have you seen all the tools for automation? It’s all art! I wish we had more of those inside Maschine. At a minimum a line tool.
Yeah man, I do like how easy it is to work in S1, really fast.
Thanks For That Video Great Job
That is cool, wish Ableton could do that lol.
Yeah…no such thing that I’ve found in Ableton….S1 is really slick. You can separate midi when you drag it, but you have to have it in an external instrument with outputs assigned if you want to freeze the midi lol.
Yo Knock! Thanks to u, I’ve enhanced my workflow! B4 seeing this video my workflow consisted of creating my whole beat in Maschine Standalone mode and then once I was done, I bounced it to S1 by dragging and dropping every sound (long process)..when I saw your video I got to thinking, how can I create a beat in standalone mode in Maschine and still bounce it to S1 the way u showed us in the video..So I figured it out, if I tag my beat that I created in standalone mode in Maschine’s browser or database (I’m sure SJ… Read more »
Sick workflow for sure man, especially if you prefer to arrange in a linear fashion.
You could even do the main parts of the track in one scene, and then go to the DAW and do the arrangements.
So many options with drag and drop. And S1 is sick with the duplication, so quick lol
And you’re absolutely right, if you make it in standalone it will show up in your browser under user in the projects tab or you can tag it with your own label, either way works 🙂
Have fun.
Hey SJ, so what ever projects u save in standalone mode will show up under the users tab? I was about to tag all my beats (which I did b4 1.7 and lost everything when I updated) so I can pull them up in vst mode in S1…u know I’m lazy so if I don’t have to tag everything again and just pull from the users tab that would be great!
Yessir! That’s one of the improvements in 1.7, anything you save now shows up as a user item, you can tag if you want later, or not lol. I just let em ride son lol. Test it and make sure though!
anyway u can do this in pro tools
Im gonna check and see. I don’t think so. But I am gonna check.
ok thanx it will make things so much easier
hey i just tried this in studio one v2 demo i just downloaded and when i draged over the beat (midi) some of my tracks did not sound the same way i had it in maschine stand alone.. for a example i have a open hi hat pitch way down that comes in at the end of every bar and when i play it in studio one it pitches it back up to the orignal pitch, dont know what to do? alot of my stuff i play with the pitch and this is making my head hurt tryin to figure… Read more »
I haven’t run into that issue specifically so I’m not sure but maybe it’s something that studio one doesn’t recognize. As for dragging a whole track’s midi, I’m not sure what you mean. Do you want to drag the midi for an entire song across multiple scenes/groups? You can’t drag the midi that way if that’s what you mean. You have to drag it group by group
yea i want to drag midi from multi groups, evrything is on one scene becuz i use the hush vst for my track mutes. i like to mix this way, i want to drag the whole song’s midi and then bounce it to audio like in this video, but like i said the pitch on some of the tracks plays in studio one in the orignal pitch, not the way i pitch it down in maschine
Yeah, you can’t drag the midi for an entire scene at once…another long standing request 😉
As for the pitch thing, I haven’t run into it, I’ll check it later today in S1 and Ableton.
ok
So now that you can do automation and better sequencing with tj’s hush vst will you sequence mainly in maschine and not studio one because the new version is looking better than ever lol! I’ve been working with studio one since you first mentioned it way back when and I’ve got to say as much as I love maschine the sequencer is light years behind the rest especially Studio one!! I use Fl Reason and studio one and all of them have better sequencers but I prefer starting in maschine. I’m still working on the best possible way to integrate… Read more »
Yeah man you know I’m an S1 fan but I still do all my sequencing in Maschine. Nothing can beat it’s workflow for me right now. I love a lot of stuff in S1 though, but when I’m creating I’m in Maschine for the most part. Thought sometimes I like to switch up now and then just for a different workflow, but honestly about 98% of the time I’m creating in Maschine lol…it’s a workflow that fits what I’m used to.
Yeah I’m the same way most of my creating is in Maschine, but when it comes to mixing and handling fx plugins and audio routing it seems as if S1 does a better job of sequencing and arranging. Especially the way knocks did with splitting the tracks isn’t that a little quicker than using the hush vst. I guess it depends on the user but I’m always looking for the best way to integrate everything as one.
Yeah if you like linear arranging, it’s definitely worth it. I’m comfortable with arranging in Maschine, applying fx as well, but I still like S1 🙂
Hmmmmm I’m a little torn here…lol because I see where your coming from. For some reason my pc handles effects better in S1 unless I drag the audio from each vst which i was doing at first in maschine. Haven’t tried the hush method yet but I think I’ll have to in order to get the best resolution. I guess this is a to be continued event..ahhh decisions decisions. I like linear but I also like doing everything in the same spot lol..hmmmm again.
Oh I believe you, Maschine isn’t multicore, S1 is, so depending on your fx, you could def get a better experience in S1. Studio One is dope, for sure, no question about it. I wish we could drag and drop whole scenes from Maschine 🙂
I tried to do that as well it would be dope if you drag the whole scene into it. I’m banging my head on a wall here with Kontakt I seem to run into this problem every now and then with Kontakt in Maschine It only plays on maschine and not the keyboard, i can see the midi being triggered but I don’t hear anything. What error am I constantly making that does this I’m not sure. Everything else but Kontakt plays on the keyboard so frustrating!!
never seen that before, if kontakt is loaded in maschine it should play from your keyboard
It’s really weird I thought it was a midi setting i changed or something it happened right after I changed the oneshot setting like you suggested to make the sounds cut off. I wonder whats going on.
Is it still happening?
man i didn’t know you got some studio one tuto lol this one is hot anyway i got some question i’m using it since few days and i use basically the drag and drop with the audio file , i wanted to know which are the basic settings to do on studio one and maschine to do the same things in the video with the midi files because when i do what’s in the video it ain’t playing in studio one along with maschine so guess there’s some stuff on it to before ?
It should work exactly like this as long as you have maschine loaded as a plugin in studio one
thanks it’s working now 🙂
ok after i do the exploded pitches to tracks theres not the bounce tracks option…im using the demo for studio one 2
If you highlight the midi tracks and hit “ctrl+b” you can bounce to audio. Or right click on the tracks when they are highlighted and you’ll get the different options in the menu, one of which will be to bounce or “render”.
got it 4 sum reason it doesnt show the bounce option when i highlighted and left clicked..but ctrl b did the trick thanx sj
Cool fam, if I remember right it is in a sub menu when you right click. Something like instrument options or audio options. I’ll have to look again, I usually use the keyboard shortcut myself 🙂
Glad it’s working for ya
When I right click it just has an option to “bounce selection” and lists the shortcut next to it as well “Ctrl+b” do you not see that when you right click after selecting the midi data?
I have Presonus producer edition. (MAC)
i dont know if it has anything to do with the options being different or anything, but i dont have part functions or any of the options you have. do you know if theres a way i can get around this?
if you need more info let me know, thanks
Nvm, diddnt have pattern mode set to midi
Thanks for the tut
Cool 🙂
Hi Saint Joe. I’m having a problem opening my projects files in maschine (used as a vst) I get a message:
ERROR:PROJECT FILE CANNOT BE OPENED. THE FILE APPEARS TO BE CORRUPTED.
I get the same error when i do this in Ableton Live
In standalone mode all is fine??? I also followed Knocks video and opened and dragged a maschine kit with no problem. I’m I missing something?????
Where did you save the files? Where they made in 64 bit or 32 bit?
I’ve never seen an issue where you can’t open maschine projects from standalone in your daw as a vst.
Are you saving to an external or an encrypted drive?
The Files are all saved on my hard drive in the projects folder. All projects are saved with samples. Running in 64bit. Any ideas??? It’d driving me crazy. Also I can’t open any of my own kits that i have saved as a group as i get the same error. But NO problem opening Maschine kits and dragging as in the Video.
Hmmm, I would check the permissions on your drive that you’re saving too, that’s a weird one.
Hey great tutorial! I can drag and drop drums and keep them the same pitch as in Maschine with no problem but when I drag an instrument sound in it changes pitch – for example, I have a horn melody to go with a song I made in Maschine and I dragged it over into SO on an instrument track, gave it its own channel (ch 1 for drums and ch 2 for the horn melody) – its played in Bm but after I drag/drop and play in SO, its playing a C note through out the entire horn melody.
If you want to drag/drop an instrument part from Maschine, how do you set the track up in SO so that it will stay in the original key as performed in Maschine? Thanks
It should play properly once you adjust the root note in Maschine, let me know once you drop
on the channel midi settings change the root note of the channel you have the horn pad on. By default it’s c3 I think, but you can change it, try changing to c1. And make sure you have it set to midi channel instead of sounds to midi notes for the horn part.
It didn’t work-I did everything you said and still no sound. And for whatever reason, I couldn’t change the root note using the down arrows when I selected sounds to midi channel-I had to type it in. Is there a certain way I have to setup a new track in SO so this will work?
All you are trying to do is take the midi you have in Maschine and put it in S1 on a track pointing back to Maschine right? Let me double check it, you shouldn’t be having any issues, I’ll see what could be the problem.
I figured it out-for melodies and instrument sounds inside Maschine, after doing the steps above, right click the actual sound inside the group, go to sound midi settings>set to a channel diff than your drums, and check the range of your low note, root note and high note-it should cover the proper range of your melody/instrument sound (low note: C-2 High Note: F#8 , root note is same as low note) or you won’t hear it played in SO. Make sure your Instrument track inside SO is set to Maschine and not none. MUST make sure the scene the group… Read more »
Yes, this is what I was saying about the midi settings for the individual pad, sorry I didn’t make it clearer 🙂 And when I was talking about root note that’s the range for setting high/low, for each individual midi channel. I assumed since you said 1 and 2 you already had them on different channels.
Is there a way to keep the automation on a sound during drag and dropping or do you have to redo it in SO?
if you want the automation you need to drag it as audio, sounds like for some of your sounds it would be better for you to drag out audio loops instead of midi.
Also, I noticed that when I dragged my pitched snare roll over it lost its “pitches”-its now just one sound throughout the roll, even after I changed the root note, low and high note.
you would have to drag it the same way you’d do an instrument to get the pitches copied over
Thanks again Joe! Been at this all day and FINALLY got it right!
GREAT! Glad you got it working 🙂
