When using the “sound midi batch setup” command to make your groups respond to a midi channel, it can be confusing when you go back to check them because that screen only shows the last midi batch setting you’ve made, it doesn’t store the midi channel for each group.
This is because this is actually a “command” and not a setting. It’s a command telling each sound in a specific group which channel it’s on.
So this quick tip shows how to know which channel each group is responding to quickly without being confused by the midi batch setup screen.

HA ha I found this out the hard way myself! Very good tip cause I don’t think the manual says this. Thanks again!
Yeah, I answer this question a lot, personally I think the midi batch should show the proper channel, but I understand why it doesn’t lol.
Yes sir
Word lol
This is actually gonna save many people hours of frustration. Just like Thomas I had to learn the hard way..lol
Yeah lol…I know you did hahahaha.
whats the advantages of this SJ?
i usually just keep everything on channel one and whatever’s highlighted plays, unless im layering sounds then i switch them to different channels..
and i tried this last night just to see what its about and when i changed the group settings none of the midi was triggering on the given channels?
For people using Maschine in a DAW, and triggering the groups via different midi channels. When setting it up, it always confuses people because you can’t see the proper midi channel from the batch midi window.
ah i see, cool… still havent got around to getting it on in ableton, but defo good to know!
should it trigger in maschine though when you change from the group?
This is only when you want to trigger it via external midi, as in you want to send midi from something else to trigger Maschine. Or if you’re in a daw and you want the Maschine sounds to send out midi notes. Or if you want to play your drums/chops out on the keyboard.
cool man thanks!
No doubt fam
Seriously SJ…..you have no idea how much pain these vids save!!!
