Yo what’s good MT fam!
This is part 2 in the maschine in cubase series, this one shows how to setup the proper midi routing so that you can sequence it in Cubase properly
Not all DAWs allow you to route the way you need to in order to record midi directly into the DAW, but Cubase is one of the ones that does this fairly easily
I wanted to share this one with the Maschine community at large so posted it on YouTube
Hope it helps ya!
Nice one thanks man.
No doubt, didn’t forget about ya man 🙂
Thank You Sir! Keep’em coming.
No doubt brotha, only got 7 days left lol, I think I covered the two main topics though, routing audio and sequencing midi, lemme know if you have anything else you want to see covered.
Does this work the same in Cubase LE 4. Having problems setting this up
I don’t know I never used that version, I would imagine it should be the same though.
Help SJ – I tried the steps you specified but midi channels don’t trigger. The way to create it an instrument track in this version is by going to project and adding an instrument track then choosing maschine from the drop down. It does not ask me if I want to create a midi track though. I have to right click and create midi tracks When I go to the midi in/out of the midi tracks I don’t see maschine in/out like you did or dd you rename yout ports? I see maschine controller midi input port and maschine controller… Read more »
It will not work with an instrument track you have to use the vst rack to load it. Go to device menu and load it that way.
I think that where the problem is. When I go to Devices I don’t see vst instrument like you had in your vid.
I see vst performance and vst connections but no instrument.
Try VST connections maybe, not sure about that LE version and how it handles plugins.
Vst Connections is just for managing audio interfaces that interact with your plugin.
When I create an instrument track I am able to select a maschine as a vst, surely thats the same as going to devices and the vst is it not?
I am really trying to figure this out because I don’t want to have go in to controller mode to work in DAWs like i havr to do in pro tools and Logic.
No, creating an instrument track is not the same, an instrument track is a special track that has the vst, audio, and midi all in one. Cubase has a vst rack, where you can load any plugins and route any midi channels you wish to them, that’s where the difference comes in.
I might be missing something but it sure is not playing ball.
Thanks for help man. If you do come across the LE version,
Please give it a try. It would be a waste if i had to go and upgrade an don’t need to.
Well I can tell you for sure you can’t do this with the Instrument Track, I tried it in Cubase 6, the routing is different for an Instrument Track vs just loading a plugin in the device rack.
Hey SJ
Just a quick note to say I tried Cubase elements and it worked just like you described. I don’t think cubase LE has that feature. I will be getting Cubase elements 6 for this though because it makes things so much easier. If you could show how you manage to switch between keyboard mode and pad mode (if possible) I’d appreciate it.
Thanks for the tutorial. Nuff respect.
it would be the same as normal, just switch the pads into keyboard mode, it would when you have it set to “midi channel’ for a specific sound , not sure about when using “sounds to midi notes” I don’t think it would work, but I’ll check.
Hey SJ,
So I am working away using this method of sequencing then I ran into the following problem.
I loaded up Kontakt on group B with the Chris Hein Horns. The problem is the Horns stop playing once I move to another track in cubase. I have to have the instance of kontakt open to hear the sounds which means I can’t record anything else.
is there a workaround for this?
Turn the monitor on for that channel in cubase, so it will monitor the data being sent to it.
Sorry for all Questions man. I am new to Cubase.
Will give that a shot. Thanks.
No problem man, I don’t use it at all so I’m sure there’s a bunch I don’t know lol
Yo man I hope you can help me here, so I chopped up a sample and its in pad mode, and it is triggering and is in cubase sequencer but after I get done recording it i cant here t on play back, do I have to do something different when i have it in pad mode?
you need to do sound midi settings, instead of midi patch setup. Set the midi channel for the specific pad instead of the whole group. In pad mode it’s just like if you were playing an instrument and not a kit.
Man i’m glad i’m in your class nice one.
hahaha, no doubt fam
I have a problem with the last part where you use a keyboard.
I tried to do the same and it works I can record midi into cubase 6 with my keyboard, however whenever I go into another sound in maschine you will not hear anything in cubase.
did you set the midi track you recorded to “monitor”? It will sound when you’re in record but once you go to a new track I believe you need to at least leave the last track you recorded on “monitor”.
when i go to my devices vst instruments theres no option for maschine….
you have to put maschine in whatever vst folder you have cubase looking in
ok i did that still nothing..what maschine file? i jus put the shortcut one on my desktop wich probabyl isnt right
nv found the maschine.dll file finally lol thanks for the help saint
Good news fam 🙂
SJ,
Making progress… At this point I am able to see Maschine in Cubase.
However I when I get to the step @ 1:26 in this video I do not see the an option to select the Maschine as my Midi input and output… ??
Word, have you setup the Maschine controller as a midi device in your preferences? Do you already have Maschine loaded as a plugin in your project?
If you are referring to the preferences in Cubase then the answer is. “I don’t know” Lol
Sorry
The only thing I could really change was in the preferences tab – Record – MiDi
(replace recording in editors) in changed it to controllers but, it didn’t seem to do anything.?
Oh I got ya! Was reading as I was eating lol.
How did you load the maschine vst in Cubase? It can’t be an instrument track as it won’t work, you have to set it up from the “Devices” menu as a vst instrument in the vst rack and then load extra midi tracks to point to it. Then you will be able to chose maschine as the midi in/out.
The in/out is refering to the Maschine vst track that’s loaded.
SJ I appreciate all the help and on Christmas night no-less!! =)
We”ll from what I’ve seen in my cubase settings and what I”ve read in previous comments. I don’t believe the LE verions of cubase allow me to work with the Maschine. “because I don’t have f11 in my devices tab in Cubase”
I could be wrong but I don’t see anyway to make it work.?……:-/
If that’s the case then you can only use it as an instrument track so it won’t work this way. I have le but it’s the full version of le. I can make a project file for you to try but if you don’t have the vst rack option I don’t think it will work.
Joe, Great vid and thank you! I would like to know if you have figured out how to send different pads in the group to different channels in Cubase at the same time. When I hit two different pads in a group (like drums) they are both recorded to the same midi channel. I*s there a way to route the pads to different channels? In theory, having all of the drums recording to there own separate channels at the same time? No matter what channel I set the Sound Midi Batch Set up to, the midi data seems to all… Read more »
Do sounds to midi channels instead of sounds to midi notes. Or right click on individual pads and set sound midi settings for different channels.
I’m using mk 2 and logic i in maschine i can’t find the active buttonMIDI>ROUTING and active option is supposed to be right under it but it says key note< can you please help me to find the active option
For Logic setup watch this video https://maschinetutorials.com/setup-maschine-logic-x-quick-easy/
You’ll want to give the group a MIDI input channel on the input settings.
