Hey what’s good fam! Just had a quick little public tutorial I made to show how to install the new controller templates for Ableton Live 9
I will follow up with an in depth tutorial that shows how the controller template works inside of Ableton exclusively for the MT Fam.
Of course if you have anything that you want to see in terms of Maschine and the recently released Ableton Live 9 just let me know!

*Note for Mac users:
When setting up the template inside of Ableton make sure that you choose the “Maschine virtual input” and the Maschine virtual output” as your midi ports when setting up the control surface.

Bro… you are fast…LOL.
LOL gotta be on top of it man 😉
Gotta love your vids man…. Always thoro!!!! Ableton looking nice!!
No doubt fam, glad to help!
Thanks Joe
Very useful cus I went and got the template from live 8 and of course it’s not working right
yeah they have one for each 🙂
yessss! cant wait to try this when I get home. just got live last week and I am not a fan of using my laptop to do all the work while producing. Still need to have maschine in there
word man!
Took me a minute to get this for Mac. Here’s how to do it from NI website http://bit.ly/Y8Ttmo Did you get a chance to upload the “for members only” breakdown of the template you mention in the video. Thanks much!
Yeah I forgot to mention the virtual input in the video 😉
The follow up will be up soon!
Okay im gonna have to try this one when I get home. I have a mac as well and was having issues last night. I need to have a controller to work with ableton! it just feels weird without one lol
yeah make sure you use the virtual midi input and output on mac, I forgot to mention that but added it to the post, it should work after that!
For some reason my service center won’t show any updates providing me with the template for Ableton 9. Any chance you can send them to me by email? Or could this possibly be because I’m currently using Ableton Live 9 Demo version. I haven’t purchased the full suite yet but will be doing so soon. If you can email me the maschine MIDI remote script that would be awesome man. laineken@gmail.com. thank you!
If you don’t see it in your service center you can log into your account on the NI website and look under Maschine updates it should be right at the top. Let me know if you don’t see it.
It doesn’t matter if you have Live demo as it includes a template for live 8 also, plus the NI service center doesn’t monitor ableton software.
Okay so I still cant get this too work lol. I did all the steps but for some reason when I’m in abaleton and scroolign through the list to pick my control surface, it only shows the new maschine and mikro but not the old. I have the old mikro and can’t get it to work. Wondering if I’m missing somethng here?
Pick the one that says Mikro and you should be good to go.
I did do that theother day and it looked like it worked then all of a sudden it stopped working and no sound was coming out of the pads when I pressed them. Im gonna start from scratch tonight and do all the steps from the begining see if I missed anything. I must be missing some folder for it not to be shwing the old maschine/miko option
can someone just zip the files and post it please?
I added the link to this post, thanks!
Got it working – finally – yep that Virtual Input and Output was the trick – thanks SJ.
Looking fwd to the tutorial of the template in use!
Glad you got it working 🙂
Did you check the video of how it works?

Just had a bit of a play with the template…. not too bad….
…Scale modes are dope!
BUT… MEGAMaschine was better.
I think they did a good job functionally, MEGAMaschine was nice too.
But personally I don’t use either, I don’t like using Maschine as a dedicated controller for other apps for some reason, call me spoiled lol, I prefer a dedicated device like my iPad running Live Control or something like an APC/Push…Maschine made me spoiled.
I also have the Faderport for Studio One, even though there is a very nice template for Studio One for Maschine 😉
I don’t suppose you could do a tutorial on how to customise the Ableton Live template in Controller Editor?
Its not bad, but after playing with it, I can see some things that I would change or improve.
I wouldn’t suggest it, customizing templates for Ableton isn’t really straight forward because in order to really make them work you have to edit the midi remote scripts for ableton as well as the template in controller editor which is a pain…hence, another reason I like dedicated controllers for Live lol
saintjoe, is it selfish to want to use maschine and push in ableton live? Have you used push and how is it as a dedicated controller to ableton compared to editing controller editor for maschine? Is it worth dropping the money for a push when I have a maschine?
It’s not selfish at all 🙂 Push is totally dedicated to Ableton and thus will give you a much better experience in my opinion in terms of what you can do with it inside of Ableton. I haven’t used one personally yet, but I’ve seen it in action in person and it’s quite nice and well thought out. If you can get a demo from a local store that would be cool but I don’t think you’ll find that it overlaps much with Maschine. That way you can have Maschine do it’s own thing and Push do the Ableton thing… Read more »
thanks for the input will just have to scope one out for a good price
hey chief,
they don’t have the templates for machine studio yet right?
Yeah there is one for Ableton in controller editor
Cool, one mor question.
When i drop midi from maschine into ableton like in your tutorial it works perfect,
In case i wanna record more pattern into maschine afterwards its impossible
Cause it will always record the midi coming in from the ableton midi.
Is there away around it?
Yeah, you can momentarily not send the midi to the maschine track if you want to record new patterns in Maschine
Thats what i figured too thx buddy!
No problem!
You gonna do a tutorial for the new Ableton template for studio SJ?
Yeah probably haven’t messed with it yet
Hi Sj
I don’t see the template for studio in the service centre? Should it be there or is there not one for studio yet.
It won’t be in service center, look in the controller editor app under factory templates
Cool i see the file but would love to see a tutorial for studio if you do one. Setting it up etc
Why can’t I find the live 9 suite – resources folder on my mac??
Not sure, did you check the application support folder? Make sure you don’t have any system folders hidden.
ive got the maschine mikro mk2 but i dont see that model in the control surface drop down of ableton live 9 suite. Im only getting maschine mk2. However i am able to select maschine mikro mk2 for input & output….Does this seem normal SJ?
Any files you need would be in your controller editor folder, you may have to copy the files from there to add it to Ableton’s control surfaces.
word thnx man
