Hey what’s good MT Fam?
Got a question about how to map parameters for third party plugins, or how to setup your own mapping for plugins in general, so I wanted to do a quick video to show you the process in Maschine 2.
It’s pretty flexible once you know where to look and how to do it, and a custom mapping is always more useful than random parameters all over multiple pages.
Anyway, in this video I used SynthMaster but it will work with any plugin.

very timely video for me personally.. just last week i was searching google for this very solution. thanks much
Glad to help fam!
Cool Vid! So Simple when you know how eh SJ?
Thanks fam 🙂
No doubt, that can apply to so many things usually, once you know…you know 🙂
using a komplete kontrol keyboard, is there a way to auto write changes to the pitch wheel in real time, as you would the effect knobs?
You don’t have to use autowrite for pitchbend, you can just enter it while record is enabled and it will record it.
youre absolutely right bruh. thanks a bunch.
This also applies to external midi instruments?
No not really, unless they have custom VST editors that you can load as a plugin.
So there isn’t a way to assign the knob a specific cc#?
Nope, they only give you the option to automate CC’s by drawing them in. They really need to beef up the entire MIDI out section to include stuff like this, along with program/bank changes, etc.
I did customised Massive in a project and saved it.
Now i opened a new project and and the customised parameters were gone on massive.
Will the costumised parameters only works in the project were i did all the work?
Nice video!

Yes, the mapping is saved with the project. If you have a default mapping you’d like to use you would create the mapping and choose “save as default” from the dropdown section where you load the plugin.
Hi. So do i have to do this for each plugin, from the beginning, each time i start a new project? Or is there a way to save this as a template and just load it up whenever i want, instead of starting from scratch? Also, how can i use maschine as a controller, say, within cubase? I mean, besides using maschine as a plugin within cubase for beatmaking. Just want to use maschine as a controller for other plugins, and use its knobs to tweak some parameters in, say, sylenth or omnisphere or whatever. Is there a way to… Read more »
From the drop down section where you load plugins, you can choose “save as default” so each time you load that plugin your mapping will be loaded. To use/setup Maschine as a controller, you have to put it into midi mode (shift+control, f1, or channel depending on which controller you use) You can customize the mapping using the Controller Editor software. You can pretty much set it up to control whatever you want, it all depends on what can be mapped in Cubase really. Maschine doesn’t have to be loaded as a plugin to use the hardware as a midi… Read more »
I saved as default but it’s not automatically loaded when I load the plugin. I have to open the preset each time. Any ideas why?
Did you save it as the default in Maschine and not the plugin itself? It should recall it, unless they changed how it works. Also make sure you have proper permissions on the folder you’re saving to.
Thanks! Btw, i wasn’t referring to what can i control in cubase per se – but in plugins that i load up in cubase. How does it work – and how does it work with several plugins? Let’s say that i’m working in cubase and i load up an instance of Alchemy, an instance of Massive, an instance of Omnisphere and also let’s say that i have Valhalla vintage verb on an FX channel. All these are loaded up in cubase. Not as standalone. I want maschine mk2 to control them (use a knob to control cutoff, resonance, envelope amount… Read more »
What I said still applies, this is not the way to do it though as this video is about plugins loaded in Maschine. If you just want to use Maschine as a general controller you’d need to open Controller Editor. You could either create a basic set of controls and then midi learn them in Cubase to the specific plugins, but I don’t know if Cubase will remember them. Or you can make multiple templates in controller editor, one for each plugin, and change them from the Maschine controller. There will be no automatic recognition of plugins as you switch,… Read more »
Hi SJ
I am trying to use Maschine Mk1 to control bitwig and have tried getting the controller script but I cannot seem to get it to work – just wondering if you know of the best script and if you might possibly do a vid to show the install and functionality etc please
Cheers
G
Which script did you use? Did you download maschine4bitwig? It’s not made by NI or Bitwig but the developer makes good scripts, I’ve used his Push one myself http://www.teotigraphix.com/bitwig
you just keep dropping gems for years to come stumbled into this vid looking for something else lol, extremely useful. I actually had a question about how to keep the kontakt plugin window open for dragging and dropping. Any time I click on anything outside of machine it disappears its a known issue for Mac not sure about windows.
Always glad to help 🙂
Did you try “pinning” the plugin?
Yeah I clicked on the push pin icon but it still happens
it will only allow it to stay so long as Maschine is highlighted if I switch over to another application or window it disappears which sucks because I’m using a tool called Kontakt Assistant which allows you to better organize your libraries. I like quickload to a degree but it would nice if there was dedicated separate screen to drag and drop from which is what Kontakt Assistant does but won’t work unless I tab to switch applications so the plugin window remains open to drop what I’m dragging.
Ahhh ok, I got ya! Yeah, hmmm, have you tried dragging from the Maschine file menu? Are you dragging nki files?
Yes they’re nki files you could see them in the built in browser but it’s so small and it’s hard to see everything I have. I’m always looking for workflow tools much like yourself. That was the appeal to the Kontakt Assistant it’s a whole dedicated browser with a far bigger view to drag and drop from. It’s made by chicken systems who also made the popular translator pro which converts samples to different sampler formats.
Yeah, I’m familiar with the program you’re referring to, definitely cool depending on what you’re looking for.
Perfect!
Glad to help!
