Hey what’s good MT Fam?
Hope everyone is well, got a new tutorial for those of you that like to capture your performance in realtime.
Of course we can’t currently record pattern changes or scene changes as automation, but there’s still a way to get this data captured.
In this tutorial I show how to setup Maschine in Studio One so that you can record the actual MIDI data of your patterns as you switch them on the fly.
This will work if you’re switching individual patterns or if you’re performing your scenes in real-time, as long as you setup the routing you’re good.
For those that want to capture that performance but not necessarily have it permanent as audio, this is an alternative.

Interesting video.
Will you be doing follow up videos in other DAW’s such as Logic Pro X?
You know I’m on a PC….I don’t use Logic lol, plus I don’t think Logic has this type of routing (midi between tracks) otherwise the whole “recording Maschine MIDI in realtime” would work.
I’ll have a look to see if it works in Cubase though.
“You know I’m on a PC….I don’t use Logic lol”
I object to that statement.
Hahahahaha LOL
Hi, I’m using StudioOne on Mac, but i can’t get the midi channel appear on input, pls advise . thx, JMR
Did you use an instrument track?
CUBASE 7.5 WINS !!
HUH? lol
Just trying to make MG feel better…lol
I have been struggling to get this working all week. I think my problem is from root notes. I have a couple pads that were originally showing up with a root note of C-2 (the lowest notes). I’ve assigned them to C3, then assigned the group midi batch setup as notes, but when I try to trigger Maschine with the patterns I’ve recorded in it, it doesn’t play anything from the problem notes, and their midi data is on the lowest party of the piano roll. If I manually transpose those notes on my piano roll to the higher range… Read more »
I can’t say that I’ve come across that, what type of kit are you working with where the notes are down that low?
It’s just a regular kit of samples that I sliced from a larger file in Maschine.
Did you apply the kit with the slices? Did you apply to a single pad or an open group? That could be why it’s starting so low, did you try changing the root note so that it starts with the lowest sample? If you sliced to a single pad you’d want to give the pad it’s own midi channel instead of the whole group, so the notes can play the whole range of the pad (instrument).
Just checking to see if you got this worked out?
Thanks for checking in, SaintJoe,, I’m getting there. The root keys assigned during slicing are definitely the issue. Is there any way to reassign root keys without affecting pitch?
It may work better if you slice to a new group instead of applying to the single pad, that way you can assign the group a root note like a kit.
Hey SJ,
How do I use different groups on different channels? E.g, drums on group 1, bass on 2, etc.
I don’t need channel separation for now as far as kick, snare, etc. I want my drums on one, another sound on 2, etc.
I have Studio One v5 and a Maschine Mikro. I’d like to just record into S1.
Thanks.
I haven’t really messed with Studio One v5, but these videos on previous versions should point you in the right direction. Basically you’ll want to give each group or instrument, its own MIDI channel.
