One of the MAJOR updates to Maschine 2.0 is the ability to route multiple channels of MIDI and audio internally.
What this means, is that you can use a multi channel plugin like Kontakt, and load up a bunch of sounds in one instance, yet route the audio and midi to different channels in Maschine.
This is really cool for those that like to keep things organized in this way, so you could have say a group with Kontakt in it, with 16 sounds, and have each pad routed to a single sound loaded in that one instance of Kontakt!
I know people have been wishing for this for a long time, and of course you know we want to make sure you understand how to make it work
So check it out!

Wooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahahahaha
So sick!
No doubt, cool for those that need it 🙂
Yeah. I mean let’s say you have a system with little RAM, this will help as you won’t need a bunch of different instances of Kontakt open. Even though you’re still using all the patches you would have used, you’re still freeing up all the RAM that each actual insurance would eat up.
Yup, exactly.
Very interesting sir. I’ll assume this applies to FM8, massive, reaktor, etc.
Well it only applies to multichannel plugins, so if they allow multiple channels, it will work. Massive and FM8 aren’t multi, I’m sure Reaktor may be though. Halion, Halion Sonic, Omnisphere, etc.
Yes. I was about to mention Omni!!!!! Sick dude.
Yeah brotha!
Man this is crazy. Been wanting this for a lonnnnngg time
Word man, no doubt
Just messed with this with Omnisphere! Real nice! Thanks Saint Joe!
No doubt bro!
I feel you with the pinning feature…it would make it easier tongi in and mess with the settings on the plug in before you record a pattern.
Yeah man it is definitely needed, would make things much easier.
SAINT JOE CAN I USE MACHFIVE 3 OR IZOTOPE IRIS IN MASCHINE
Yeah it works fine, just make sure you have them setup in the plugin preferences.
Another Nice informative vid SJ. Please show how to route The Finger to other instruments?
Here’s how it’s setup in general https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-use-the-finger-inside-of-maschine/
If you want a maschine 2 specific one just let me know 🙂
Also how does Cthulhu sit with maschine 2.0
Not any improvement since the internal midi is just basic notes, it doesn’t send the midi from one plugin to another.
Dawg….you knoooooooow we talked about this long ago….nah mean lol! I’m about to have a fit I just ordered and I have to wait for the damn serial arrrgggh!! I’ve been wanting the damn pin feature as well NI is a little slow man but once the do it they do it good like Apple. I’ve been wanting this for ages and once again you got the illest new libraries I’m always checking to see what you got. Man I could yap your ear off for days son..gotta email you again so we can re-ignite the convo we started waaaaay… Read more »
No doubt fam, you know how to reach me!
Ok there is something off about my Kontakt because when i go to select the channel for the second instrument i notice that where your says routed and has a number mine has a dash with nothing there that’s what’s holding me back here because I checked everything else to be sure why is that?
You may have to create your extra outputs
hmmm may have figured it out did i speak to soon i didn’t select the 16 out version of Kontakt lol we’ll see!
Yeah you could do that also, I have my extra outputs setup as the default for when I open Kontakt, I did it a long time ago.
i can’t see all these channels/outputs. tried to make som outputs but the sound was still going to 1 channel. can you make a video where you show how to set the contact up to it?
The quickest way is to open the kontakt 16 out version of the plugin, or the 8 out version if you don’t want to setup the outputs yourself in kontakt, otherwise you have to set up the outputs in the kontakt mixer first.
but still when i use the 16 or 8 out i can’t see all the channel you can in the video
What happens when you look in the kontakt mixer? Do you see any channels? Or where are you looking for them at? Also do you have any of the instruments routed to extra outputs in Kontakt first?
I look in outputs. And I see: st 1-3 and aux 1-4. when I route the instrument to channel 2 it is the left side speaker
can you email me a picture of what your kontakt mixer looks like?
help@MaschineTutorials.com
i send you a mail now.
sorry for the delay
Hi there, please help me out with the grate NI west africa or cuban ensembles!!! (im a percussionist…)
Each ensemble has 5-6 different instruments playing all together and you can mute them individual at the mixer view.
Can i send each one of them in different channels in Maschine and record them?
Or can i somehow record some of their patterns and use them as loops?
Thanks in advance
PS(waiting for Stoni to get back to me in FB…)
Check this out fam, just did a video for ya
https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-route-multiple-channels-of-west-africa-to-maschines-mixer/
You da man!
So what if a person was to use this inside of a complete daw studio 1/2, protools etc… Would this limited the daw routing?
If you’re using Kontakt inside of a DAW then you would route it directly in your DAW according to it’s routing options.
@ 3;22 of this video you show your routing of Kontakt, do you have any videos that would show me how to do that routing?
I’m not sure what routing you mean, but if you mean the kontakt mixer, you can open the “kontakt 16 output” and it will already be setup for you. You can also set it up in the mixer after you have multiple instruments loaded, click the dropdown in kontakt’s mixer that says batch functions. You can choose to have it automatically setup outputs for each instrument you have loaded, it’s not anything maschine specific it’s just kontakt’s own routing.
trying to sign up again
You would just have to go through paypal again, can you see this video?
Joe for my overloaded CPU is it better to open many instruments in one Channel of Kontakt or opening Kontakt in different sounds and load every kontakt instrument separately ?
You can try both ways to see what works best, though audio interface/buffer probably has more to do with it, or if you’re low on ram.
I have 8 gb of ram,any idea of things i should do to increase my CPU power? What about the audio interface/buffer?
Increase the buffer on your interface, if it’s too low it will increase cpu.
So here we go years later, the same issue and the answer was as you said however there was something that I was missing. One was how to actually add a stereo output channel which I didn’t fully understand lol. Secondly I thought by loading it up with either 8 or 16 out it would already be configured and ready to go, not quite. You still have to add the channel manually and configure them for each stereo pair as well. I am now going to save this as a default as you have so now all my templates are… Read more »
Funny thing is I tried using the batch configuration after I had the instruments loaded but it didn’t create any outputs for some reason oh well got it going now hitting the save button as we speak ha ha fuck dat shit lol!!
Yeah man LOL once you do it once save it! Ahahahahahaha!
I know we’ve been through this before but I just had to ask something that I noticed. So your method requires having the outputs configured in Kontakt’s mixer (8 or 16 out) which I remember doing but somehow they weren’t working like I thought they would when I recalled my template I had set up. This made me go back and revisit the subject to resolve it. I noticed that on Maschine Masters they mentioned just changing the output in Maschine and using the Kontakt 8 out that seemed to work a lot easier than going into Kontakt and adding… Read more »
No real difference, the 8 out is much easier, whereas setting it up yourself is more of a custom setup. But that’s exactly what the 8 out or even 16 out is for, so you can quickly have the outputs you need. 🙂 I tend to only have the main version active in my plugin list so I’m used to setting up the outputs if needed, plus I had questions on actually setting up the outputs in Kontakt so showed it this way. If you know you’re going to be using 8 or 16, it’s much faster to load those… Read more »
What I found interesting was that the way they did it in Maschine Masters you didn’t need to go into Kontakt for it. Now they did it with “8” but I think it’s the same with “16”, just highlight all the channels your using in the group select the destination as Kontakt and then they all follow cascading midi channels afterwards. The only thing you do I think is then go into each Kontakt instrument in your multi and make sure the channels correspond. It just seemed to be a little easier then adding outputs manually which is where I… Read more »
Yeah, that’s what I said. It’s easier because it’s already setup and actually is made for that purpose. It’s all about preference. I showed this way for those that may not know beforehand they want to use multiple outs, if you do, using the 8 or 16 out is quicker.
Man I had mad issues doing it manually lol. I watched your vid next to the other and I kept saying man this one is easier why didn’t he do that one lol. I should have known there was a reason. Now for the last piece do you think it’s better performance wise as I mentioned with one multi-instance vs several instances? Let’s squash the debate here finally so I can move on with my production life lol!!
Ahahahaha word. I think if your cpu is powerful it doesn’t matter. I personally always use multiple instances lol. I’m lazy, don’t feel like routing.
My cpu is ok like 2.3 or something but I’ve got a lot memory for my Mac and from time to time I see spikes. I don’t think Maschine can handle much fx plugs like a full blown Daw. Either that or I need a customized “Lazy Joe” or “Doug Lazy” edition pc. Signed and autographed btw lol!!
