Here’s a video showing how to record and sequence your MIDI data for Maschine 2.0 directly into Logic Pro X
In this video the Maschine Studio controller is being used but this will also work with the MK2 and the Mikro
The tutorial shows how to setup the MIDI environment properly, how to setup the channels, as well as how to explode your MIDI if you want group data on separate tracks.

Hell yea!!! Knock you da man!!!
Template time.
Everything its fine until 3rd minute of the video .When your sounds play from the firs track and second on the video ,mine play just from the first one.Even when I assign different groups for different channels still everything play just from the first one.when Im recording also nothing, no MIDI notes.Ive set up template as saintjoe advise and still that same .are you able to send me logic x template so I can check if I’m doin somethings wrong or mage its machine or logic .
regards Tom
Do you send from different midi channel/tracks also? Even if you change the groups to respond to different channels you also have to setup separate midi tracks to send on those channels as well. Also check to see if you don’t have the first channel record enabled while the others are not.
hey was sup Y’all I’m trying to figure out where do you create these midi tracks, in Logic? I was up last night trying to get this right but couldn’t. I do see that it does see the midi when I tap a bad but no sound on the extra channels only the main one. Following the MK1 template Group A is the only thing lit. I was going to try another route I saw on youtube that bypassed the environment altogether according to the Atlanta Logic dude but that doesn’t seem to work for Logic X maybe it does… Read more »
I have followed all the steps in the video. I open logic x and create a software instrument track. Then I load maschine as a stereo track plugin. I have loaded maschine as a multi output plugin as well. Then I open midi environment, and create a new multi instrument. I unchecked 8 gray boxes and drag the arrow to the maschine plugin channel strip. I then create an external track and duplicate the external until I have 8 in total. Each external corresponds to the channels I unchecked in midi environment. Then I open maschine on the plugin strip… Read more »
Hallo,
It seems to be so easy ,but I can` t do it .
I did every thing setting up the channels but there is no sound coming out.
I use a Maschine Mikro 2 . .I pressed shift F1 to set it in controller mode .If I press record I can see midi notes in logic but I can t hear a note .
sorry being stupid
Thanks for help Thilo
Make sure your pads are sending the proper midi notes to Maschine
The Mikro isn t very easy to handle . How can I set the right notes ?
Thanks
thilo
in controller editor, check this out
https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-sequence-the-maschine-2-0-plugin-in-studio-one-maschine-studio-controller-editor-setup/
Thanks .
All I had to do was Group and C .(it was mixed up in the video)
Every thing is working.
But what is this CC89 CC90 CC91 in Controler Mode under F1 to F3 ?
Thanks a lot for your help
Just different cc’s that you can assign to different stuff if you wish
Nice one Knock Luvin it. What about individual sounds from maschine into logic is it the same except you choose sounds instead of groups ???
Here ya go
https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-routing-multiple-audio-channels-into-logic-pro-x/
Thanks money don’t get a lot of time to do this 🙁
No doubt fam, I feel ya
i think I’m missing a step but i don’t see the option to open midi environment, and that step is within the first 20 sec of video. Do i add it as a software instrument or external midi? something basic i know for sure i missed.
Hey whats up Justin. Yes load maschine as a software instrument and then look at what I do at 47 seconds in to get to the “open midi environment” (I go to the top menu and click “Windows” and then select “open midi environment”)
Let me know if this helps or if you need more help.
Whatup! and yessir i need some more help! thats the problem… when i go to windows …there is no option to select open midi environment… its not there at all as a selection. whats i have is open smart controls, open piano roll, open score and step editor, open event list, open signature list, open project audio, etc but no open midi environment option..!
Im totally frustrated because i watched and watched but I’m missing that one step. There is something im not doing correct.
hey i figured it out!! The Environment is only available when Additional MIDI Options is selected in the Advanced preferences pane….wtf
see its stuff like that…little things that drive me nuts. PEACE
Justin… I am glad you figured it out bro. I was going crazy trying to figure it out and now it makes sense, Its kinda wack that you have to go in and check “additional midi options” but me being new to Logic X I didn’t know they
didn’t make it default.
ok now i have another issue. At 2.48 in the video.
after i load the 808 kit in group a/ i make sure the group tab is on midi/ flip the active toggle/ set the channel to 1.
i play the pads and only the sound registers under the inst 1 channel and not the machine 1 channel.
I’m getting a headache
Justin what is your email address? I will send you the logic X template I used with maschine loaded as software instrument with the sounds and you can see if it works…then we can better see what the problem is. You can email me at knock@knockshouse.com and leave your email address.

Help!? .. When I drop down the ‘Window’ Menu in my Logic X , there is no option for ‘View Environment’ ? .. Cmd-8 is by default set to view the “Project Audio” page
I believe you have to set it to show advanced options?
this is bugging the SH!T out of me…after i select the kit to group a/ go to input under group toggle activate/ select channel 1/ play pads…. and guess what no sound coming from the external midi channel we created moments. i can’t record and no midi notes seen on the screen, all i get is sound but nothing else. can someone again help me out because this is seriously messing up my vibe. i spent the last 5 days trying to figure this out and im sure its a simple oversight. when i create the external midi my output… Read more »
Did you get this running? I thought you mentioned in the forum you did, but wanted to check!
once again thank you. this makes the work flow pop off
I’m having big time issues using my Machine Studio as a controller in Logic 10. Did you ever find a way to make it happen.
what all are you trying to control?
Just the transport PLAY-RECORD-ERASE and the Jogwheel
When you setup the controller in Logic as a Mackie device, make sure you use “maschine virtual input/output” instead of the maschine input/output, on Mac you have to use the virtual inputs for some reason.
Maybe I have this setup wrong in Logic…IDK!!
Very interesting I started out using Studio One with Maschine and now I’m using Logic due to it’s extra flexibility so here I am. I would also love to use Maschine as you would in Studio One so is just changing the virtual inputs option the ticket to the problem Knocks was having? Dope video Knocks now I need to see how to make maschine flow with Logic so I’m watching every tutorial you have I’m digging Logic. I sort of feel like Logic is more powerful than Studio One but I still like Studio One just don’t have time… Read more »
Great vid…..Are you in Maschine mode or controller mode?
This would be in controller mode
So should I be in midi mode or controller mode to solve this problem?
I have everything working as in the video with one difference. I can record what I play in Maschine, in Logic when I hit the keys on my Akai MPK25 but when I use the Mikro MKII- nothing. I can hear the kit when using Mikro and the meter in Logic moves but nothing gets recorded. I made sure the controller was active and the correct outputs were set in Maschine. Why would everything work perfectly with the MPK25 but not MIKRO MKII? Don’t get it.
Thanks for any help, banging my head over here
Did you put the controller in midi mode?
When I do(SHIFT + F1), I can record the MIDI notes in Logic but then lose control of Maschine. So I get the red box in Logic showing each midi note recorded but no sound is connected to it.
You have to use midi mode and have it trigger the proper notes in machine. It will not work in regular machine mode as it will not send midi. This video is done using machine in midi mode.
Thanks for your quick responses. I am legally blind so I am probably missing something. Even tried using a template from someone else. Everything plays but no recording still. I will try to get someone to help me set it up. Love the site.
Try using this template https://maschinetutorials.com/mt-files/?did=33
Thanks it works perfectly now
No problem
Are you able to load more than one instance of Maschine in Logic. If so how do you toggle through the screens with your controller
You can load multiple instances, to switch between them from the controller you press shift+plugin (instance), on the mk2 it’s shift+step (instance)
Just read it on the manual. My brother you don’t sleep!! Thanks for the speedy response you guys are truly great at what you do.
glad to help fam!
hey can you please do this same thing for fl ppl guys, its just as used as these other daws, and i have the new machine, and cant use it, i want to be able to use the machine this exact same way on fl studio 11. i been coming on here for months looking for a complete tutorial, but instead they are all over the place and outdated with the new machine. please help
hey wassup again Joe and Knocks I guess you guys are busy as usual I didn’t quite get an answer to my post earlier on this page about what midi settings you were referring to with setting up Maschine in Logic X. You mentioned midioutputs/inputs to go along with the setup in Maschine. Also…. are you using Maschine studio??
I’m using Mk1 the template has been giving me some problems. Transport controls don’t work but the midi seems to show activity.
Did you set it up as a Mackie device in Logic?
And I’m using maschine 2.0. When I get home tonight I will give it another try.
Everything seemed fine but I’m thinking it’s the logic end and maybe switching to virtual midi input/output. I saw that in standalone mode but not as a plugin
Yeah let us know…. we will somehow get this solved…its probably something simple thats not activated
I figured it would be I was spending so much time rewinding Knock that I kept finding funny stuff like how Knock kept pronouncing channel like “Chonnull” lol that’s what happens when you get frustrated you look for something else ha ha.
Man…. when I worked at XM Radio….I produced a whole channel (imaging) and on the voice liners I said Channel like “Chonnull” and had to redo the whole thing….took me days to do…LOL.
Oh really that’s so funny I had not idea it went that deep nowadays you can “Chonnull” all you want LOL. I was thinking man is it an accent thing, where does he live ha ha!!
Hey whats up bro. My apologies on the delay. At 1:23 I loaded an external midi channel. You noticed I have that new midi channel highlighted….then at 2:13 I click in an empty space to duplicate the midi channel….because when you click in an empty space…whatever is highlighted will be duplicated. You REALLY need to pay close attention from 1:23 to 2:13 because I think that is the area you are getting confused on. If this doesnt help…hit me back here again.
Ha ha Chonnull 1, Chonnull 2 ha ha had me laughing. Ok so I tried again the one thing I notice is that only Group A is lit when using the template for MKI. So as far as configuring the Mackie Control as Joe mentioned I’m not sure that’s been done all I did is load the template. So when I tap the pads GM device 1 lights up but no sound comes out even though the record button is lit. So the meter shows movement just no sound. I also notice that the meter moves when I touch the… Read more »

Alright so I followed the Logic transport control for 1.8 and I did see the controls working however there’s something weird. The sounds show play while using midi port 0 but the controls play sounds on all pads including the transport. When I switch to virtual input the assignments are correct but no sounds play on the pads. I suppose I’m getting a little closer but still missing something let me know if you have any suggestions definitely choosing the mackie template works for some things so that’s a step in the right direction. Ok back with Logic and maschine 2.0 I’ve noticed that when I record the midi into logic x, lets say Kick and snare and Hi hats on one track then I right click on the track go down to midi and choose separate by note pitch. All that is fine but when I try to adjust the volume lets say on the kick drum, it’s adjusting all the volumes that I just separated at once (all Together) any help to prevent this for better control of the mix??? Thanks !!!
Im having a similar issue where i separated my instruments into different midi tracks but when I try an turn down the mix on one of those midi tracks it also turns down the instrument mix (the one i have maschine running on). so its really turning down all my instruments together. I was thinking of a possible way around it would to turn the midi tracks into audio tracks and mix from there but i cant get my midi tracks to bounce as audio tracks lol. Any luck for you brotha?
I’ll see if I can bounce it to audio in logic have’nt tried that yet but I’ll let u know the outcome I hope lol:-)
Maybe I can get a template specific for Logic from either one of you that fits. Something about configuring with the mackie doesn’t seem to work with the maschineplugin template for 2.0 on MK1 for me. I know we all have lives so I’ll just wait to you guys reappear with some handy advice on how to proceed. This more of a reminder than a repost Ill catch up with you guys soon!
I didn’t use a template to get it to work. I just followed what Knock said from beginning to end and it worked fine for me except the volume mix control separation of the tracks. Try that and see how it goes fam…

I don’t have Logic so Knock will have to answer this if he hasn’t got back to you already, are you still having issues with this?
Do you have Maschine in midi control mode?
Yes I am still having issues. Knock hasn’t sent me a message. I’m not sure if I put maschine in midi mode. I tried doing this about a month ago. I will follow the steps in the tutorial again. This time I will make sure I put maschine mikro in midi mode. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for responding.
Yeah the only way it will work is if you’re in midi mode, if it’s in regular maschine mode it won’t record any midi notes. Let me know what you find out.
OK no problem
Sorry. let me know if the midi mode works… if not we need to try something else. Somewhere in the chain something is not happening
OK I will check today. No problem
Thanks knock. Everything worked out great. I think all i need now is a template for maschine mikro. None of the transport buttons work in midi mode. And I can’t use note repeat.
Note repeat will not work in midi mode, transport can only be set to control the daw transport in midi mode using host transport control setup.
Okay cool thanks
This is my ALMOST my exact problem, too!!! Except, when I open maschine on the plug-in strip, and press groups, there is no active button for me to turn on…..something is definitly wrong!
Hey yo Knock I tried to reach out to you to man lol, I sent you an email to inquire about the template you used for Logic. St. Joe said you used the new template but for some reason my transport controls don’t work and become like drum pads play the same sounds as the pads. I still haven’t been able to get the midi set up to work correctly even when I tried to set up the mackie controller.
Just sent you an email…. we are going to get this sorted out …sorry for the email delay.
Appreciate the response bro sent you a long message back!
Yo knock get at me when you can
Hey Guys, Having the same issues as everyone else in regards to getting signal back into the different parts of the multi instrument. Can you email me a template? ill flick you an email.
Any Reason why when I set up Maschine in logic pro x, the sound routing is right but my drums don’t seem to be hitting as hard or loud as to when I have Maschine in stand alone. Any body else get this Problem ???
Brick what up. Did you try and open up the Controller Editor and look where it says Pad Velocity Curve ? Mess with the Hard soft settings and see if that makes a difference.Let me know.
That didn’t work Knock. It didn’t change a thing. The volume on the pads just seem to be turned down some
Got it Knock. Had to take Maschine out of Controller Mode. Then had to turn the pad volume up one at a time in maschine to increase the volume on each pad… Now they are hitting hard to balance out the sound level in the track. Still feel like a super rookie some times 🙂
You should NEVER feel like a rookie !! Maschine is like a constant learning experience..LOL
Great video!
I love this workflow so far but I have a few questions when you have time.
1. How are you doing 16 levels of pitch in this workflow?
2. Have you found a way to do note repeat in this workflow?
3. I noticed in Midi mode you have a lot more stuff on your Maschine studio browsers than I do. Mine seems to work but I don’t have the same view as you. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks!
Bari-D
Maschine Studio, Logic X
When you’re in MIDI mode you lose all the functions of the Maschine native mode, so things like 16 level and note repeat don’t work.
However, if you want to play a specific sound at multiple pitches, you can give that single pad a midi channel instead of giving the whole group a midi channel, that way you’d setup one midi track to trigger one sound and the pads would send all the notes to that one sound, giving you various pitches.
OK,
Thanks
How about the view in midi mode? how do you get to the view you have in Maschine studio’s displays?
Mine looks totally different using the Mackie template, I think it’s just a matter of navigating to the correct setting, I just don’t know what that is.
Thanks
You can put the focus on the knobs, pads, etc, and you can move through the pages using the left and right arrows.
Ok how about getting midi to work with plugins in Maschine. So I want to have Reaktor loaded into Maschine and I want to be able to control it not only from Maschine in Midi mode but from my keyboard. I have’nt been able to get either to work. How are you doing it? I have Lazorbass loaded in reaktor as a plugin in Maschine. I switch to midi mode and I get nothing, Is there Reaktor templates foe Maschine? I use a Novation IMPULSE 61 as my keyboard.
Thanks
You would have to give that pad a midi input channel to respond to, then you could play it via a midi track sent to Maschine. Go to the input tab for that bad and turn on midi input, and give it a channel.
Hello, I’m using this workflow now but ran into an issue. I loaded Kontak 5 (16 Stereo outs) with Damage and I’m not sure if Damage is stereo only or if I can have each sound on it’s own output. (Do you know if that’s possible?) Also I have Reaktor 5 loaded as a plugin in Maschine and I can only get it to work on Midi Channel 1. I read that by default Reaktor only receives on midi Channel 1 but that can be changed. I haven’t been able to get it to work though. Any help would be… Read more »
Damage doesn’t have an internal mixer for routing to multiple outputs. You can set the channels of reaktor directly in the interface by going into edit mode and clicking the connect tab.
Thanks,
I have Reaktor 5 loaded as a plugin in Maschine and I can only get it to work on Midi Channel 1. I read that by default Reaktor only receives on midi Channel 1 but the channel can be changed.
If I use any other midi track in Logic X and attempt to trigger sounds in Reaktor nothing plays. I can see midi coming into Reaktor on the appropriate midi channels however I haven’t been able to get Reaktor to Allow other midi channels to trigger sounds. (Any help would be greatly appreciated.)
Thanks
You have to click the edit icon in reaktor to get to the connect tab. It looks like 3 squares connected by lines.
Thanks for answering so quickly!
No problem fam
Does this work the some way with the latest version Maschine 2.2?
Yes should work the same way.
Really appreciate the work you guys do. This problem has been driving me nuts and I have literally been working on it with no sleep for about 36 hours to no avail. I have a beat I made in maschine that I want to move to Logic Pro X for sequencing and further tweeking. I tried doing a midi pattern drop following a video on youtube and it did not work at all, instruments were being triggered for no apparent reason. Then I followed this video above just trying to record live midi notes played through maschine and it is… Read more »
Ok here is what I want you to do. Freeze the video at exactly 1 minute fifty seconds in (1:50) now look in the upper left corner of the screen (my screen in the video) you will notice under the Apple icon you will notice 7 little clickable boxes… in the middle of those boxes is a “?”. If you notice in my video the far left two boxes are clicked … the furthest one is the one that needs to be clicked in order to see the midi setup you made in the midi environment. If its not highlighted… Read more »
Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I wish I could forward you a screenshot on here but at 1:50 into the video I do not see the checked boxes. Do they show up when you are in the MIDI Environment window? Mine seems to look a little different than yours could it be I am using 2.2 and this video was made with 2.0?
I realized the boxes you were talking about now, and I have them clicked, and inside that Library pane, my multi-instrument does not show up that I just created.
I realized the boxes you were talking about now, and I have them clicked, and inside that Library pane, my multi-instrument does not show up that I just created.
I will investigate this further when I get in the studio tonight. I may just make a Logic session file like the one in this video and see if that works on your end. You have the latest version of Logic X right?
Yes I do, logic 10.1.1. Your the best knock!
Ploogie…man I am so sorry I am just getting back to this. My Imac is out of commission until tomorrow (possibly late tonight). I will definitely check the logic issue as soon as I get the imac hooked back up again.
Try the Logic Project that is in this link http://knockshouse.com/files/179891/bonebreaker.zip its the same exact session I used in the video. I named the Midi I created “MASCHINE KNOCK” see if you can see it in the left side? Also…press some scenes
on Maschine to see if it plays like it did in the video.
No worries man I appreciate the work you put in. Unfortunately I am still not seeing it. All I see is Maschine Controller MIDI – Channels 1-16, Maschine Controller Virtual – Channels 1-16, and Other Objects – MIDI Click and Input Notes.
Question. When you are looking for the multi instrument you created…have you made an external midi track yet. Like at 1:20 in the video I made an external midi track. The thing is in order to see the multi instrument you created the external midi track MUST be highlighted (selected) That is the only time it appears in the library. If you have the maschine instrument track selected you wont see it. Try this and see if it works.
KnockSquared! Off top, righteous site. I dig it, keep up the good work Maschine Tutorials! Down to bidness… I’m having the same issue as ploogie, when I add the Multi-Instrument in the MIDI Environment I can’t see it as an option… My main goal, and the reason I joined Maschine Tutorials, is to get my workflow back after I upgraded to Logic Pro X and Maschine 2.0 from their previous versions. That goal is to record MIDI events, using Maschine MKII and it’s Transport Controls, directly into Logic Pro X in order to create, arrange and mix in Logic Pro… Read more »

It’s a no go when I create the Multi-Intrument than highlight it. I still can’t see it in the library. I followed everything in the video to the tee…
So the Logic/Maschine combo continues to plague many of us still I see. Knock and I were trying to work it out but couldn’t get it to function like I needed it to using MK1. I eventually gave up and decided to do my work separate in maschine in standalone and then drag and drop the actual audio into Logic separately. I still don’t think Maschine can handle fx plugs as effectively as other Daws and I have plenty of memory on my Mac. It’s a love/hate relationship for now until I get the updated Studio Controller which I’m sure… Read more »
St Joe i have a question regardin drag and drop, I have just made a pattern in maschine, the pattern length is 1:0:0 so thats one bar, its very simple, just four hits on a hi hat, when i drag and drop this pattern into logic though something isn’t right, i want to loop that bar in logic but when the pattern plays in logic it is longer than the four hits, i hear the 4 hits of the hi hat then there is a small gap, so i can’t loop it because it’ll be out of time, any thoughts… Read more »
Sj?
Somehow you are exporting a loop longer than the one bar. As long as maschine is loaded into logic then the sequence in maschine should match the tempo logic is set at. So when you drag and drop that 1 bar and drop it in logic on the it should loop perfect. Also… even if the bar is longer when you drag it ..all you have to do is adjust the bar length inside of Logic to when it is one bar long and then just loop it. Are you making the beat in maschine standalone then opening maschine in… Read more »
Thanks man, no i’m using machine in standalone mode, i will double check that the tempos match later today and let you know, i wonder if i still can’t get it to work i could maybe post a video?
ok saint J, i’m looking just now, both my tempos match, 155.00, i remade the beat in machine a simple four hits on a hi hat and when i drag the audio, not midi, over to logic it plays the four hits but it also plays four silent notes! arghhhhhh any ideas
after dragging when you say it plays the four hits what did you mean…did you mean you see/hear the audio you dragged? And the four silent notes did you meanthat was midi? Can you send a screenshot of that to my email address? knock@knockshouse.com
Hi man, I’m dragging audio from standalone maschine into an audio track in logic, when I say hits then the bar in maschine has four hits of a hi hat. So when I drag that bar to logic it plays four hits then has a silence, about a couple of seconds worth, so I can’t loop it, but in maschine when I play the bar it will loop obviously, i have even tried extending the maschine pattern to two bars but still the same audio silence whenever tue audio stops. Does that make sense? Thanks
Yeah this is confusing. I am going to try that exact thing when I get back in front of maschine tonight. But I have to ask you this question… why can’t you just shorten the audio file in Logic so it will loop right. Maybe I am not fully understanding what you mean but for instance if I make a beat in Maschine at 155 BPM’s and also have logic set to 155 then when i drag something and its in logic, even if it has some seconds of silence on the audio file, I can simply grab the edge… Read more »
ok i made a video but i can’t email that cause its too large, what about if i put up on a Facebook post or something, for some reason i can only loop the audio, i can’t swipe to the left as it won’t let me, sorry i’m not great with logic 🙁
I put a video on the maschine movement group man, tagged you in it.
Is there a way to do this going into a MPC 4000
Slightly off topic, but related: I’m just getting the hang of using Maschine in Logic. I’m able to use the pads and Maschine hardware in Logic with different sounds, but am no longer able to get my midi keyboard (mpk249) to play the sound I selected in Maschine. I’m wondering if it’s because both my Maschine Studio and mpk249 are plugged in via USB directly to my computer. If I used a midi cable to plug in my mpk249 from the Maschine Studio hardware, would this solve the problem and let me use both Maschine and keyboard in Logic at… Read more »
They should both work as long as both are setup in Logic as input devices. Also, make sure you’re not setting Maschine to only receive MIDI from a specific device.
I followed this pretty well…I do get sound out of the pads when I press them inside the DAW. But, when I hit record, it’s simply NOT recording. ( I’m using the maschine mikro 2 and Logic Pro X)
Put the Mikro into “Midi mode” by pressing “shift + F1 and then hit the pads and see if it records. One thing about Logic and maschine is the hardware has to be in controller or midi mode if you want to record midi into logic sequence from pads.
It’s in midi mode….when I press the pads I see the movement in the DAW but no sound. Also, in your video you said to be sure we select groups and activate midi…BUT, I don’t see a midi button nowhere in sight or that little activate button that you clicked….My controller is in midi mode(shift + F1)
When I press “Groups”, all I see is “Audio” and “AUX” and under that is “Dest” “Cue”, “Level”, and “Pan”
Queen… I want to send you a template that is setup with the tracks ready to be recorded… its basically a logic session that when you load it will be as if you are right at the point where you can record. I want you to hit pads and see if you hear sound with this template/session. I can send it to your email address.
how do you load Maschine as a plugin?
After you install Maschine it should show up in your plugin list like any other plugin, should be under Native Instruments.
