Here’s a quick video showing how to setup MIDI output to your external synth gear when using Maschine 2.0, in this video I’m using the Korg Volca Keys
We’ve covered MIDI output in a few different videos, but I wanted to do a really basic one showing how to use it for sequencing external gear.
I also show my process of getting that sound back into Maschine for further manipulation

what’s the secret for the motif xf in machine studio
Just send midi out to it and it should work, as long as you have whatever midi port it is connected to turned on in the MIDI output settings of Maschine preferences
I did that and nothing it seemed so so simple on the M1.When use my in the 1/4 cables in my interface I get a sig but no sound.
Midi just sends data, if you want sound you have to set the audio input/sampler to whatever inputs on your interface you have the motif output connected to
so confusing man i need help lol just tying to get some of these pads from the motif under some of my drum tracks in machine.
Honestly I usually just record my hardware as audio into Maschine as a sample, I find it quicker than messing with midi and resampling. But basically, you want midi OUT to the motif, then you want audio out of the motif INTO maschine’s sampler to sample what you played.
Hey I’m back at it now in the sampler i see a signal but no signal is picked up stating waiting for next bar …..Im sure its a port issue and thats whats bugging me out (saffire pro 24 and the also have a midi out from machine into the motif in and also the have the 1\4 plugs from the motif in lines 3-4 of saffire I’m sure its something simple.
Sounds like you have it set to sync sample, if that’s the case you have to actually start the sequencer for sampling to start, that’s why it says “waiting for next bar”
A newbie question here. I´ve followed your great tutorial but I can only hear my synth sound in mono (left channel to be precise). If I close the Maschine software and activate the Monitor on the Audio 6 there´s stereo sound. I´m using a Microbrute, NI Audio 6 and Maschine Studio with Maschine 2.0 on Win7 Pro 64bit. Any ideas? Thx
Since it’s a mono synth, when sampling it choose “ext mono” instead of “ext stereo”
Thank you for that, I can hear the Minibrute now, but I have another issue: I can record as on the tutorial (min 01:58), but when I play it there is no sound of the recorded sequence. I´m I missing something?
You have to have it setup to monitor/sample in order to hear it, as long as the midi is pointing to the synth it should work. But if you don’t have the audio set to be heard (through audio input or sample monitoring) you will not hear anything.
For some strange reason key C3 is stuck in the down position inside the software I try uninstalling reinstalling making sure I have all the updates after all of that I still have the same problem I just can’t figure it out I would like to send you a screenshot so you can see but I don’t have your e-mail I will really appreciate if you can help me out in solving this problem native instruments customer support is the worst in the business I’m really getting fed up with all the bugs in their software
Never heard of that, do you have any midi devices connected? You can send a screen shot through our help desk if you want.
Hi!
My Motif XF doesn´t show up on MIDI Out in Maschine 2.0. Any ideas?

Chris Angelo
How do you have it hooked up? Via usb or midi cable? If it’s via usb, did you install the drivers for the XF?
Hi SJ,
Lately I like to use Maschine as a sequencer for my external synth. Everything works fine.
I have an issue when trying to do the same with Maschine as a VST in Ableton. I can’t hear my synths anymore. Any suggestion for that ?
Thanks and best regards,
Alexis
How do you have them hooked up, and how did you configure your routing in Ableton?
In maschine I have a group for each synth. Sound midi output is sending the the Microbrute on channel 11. Audio input form Ext. 1.
In Ableton I have maschine as a VST in a midi track. It will play any maschine sounds but not trigger the Microbrute.
Thanks
How is the MB hooked up? You will probably need to route from Ableton not just through Maschine. Input for audio would need to be in Ableton as well.
Ok I got it working, I trigger a midi track from maschine and have Ableton send the midi signal to the MB. Easier that way.
Thanks for helping me brainstorm 🙂
No problem, yeah, using the “external instrument” is cool too if you want the audio routed back into Live.
