So this is a very special use case from a member that is trying to workout a flexible way to use Push and Maschine together in his Live set.
He wanted to be able to use Push controlling a drum rack in Ableton to trigger sounds and samples from Maschine, yet still be able to use the Maschine controller
Once we figured out what he wanted to do I wanted to make a video to show the concept for anyone else that may be interested, as well as for him to see the actual setup.
Of course if you have questions let us know, I know it may not be something a lot of people will be doing but when the fam needs help we do our best to make it happen!

Thank you for this bro. very helpful.
No problem fam!
hey St.Joe. i know that this thread is 5 years old but I’m really stuck on trying to get my midi recorded on Ableton Live 9’s clips. i’ve tried everything and i’m really frustrated. The link to the template is no longer there. Can you upload it or make a video showing how you set up the drum racks to record midi data from Machine into the clips? that would be greatly appreciated! Peace.
I fixed the link, but this is not for recording clips from Maschine, this is for triggering Maschine from the drum rack inside of Live. I’m not sure exactly what you’re trying to do? I posted a link to your previous reply that should help you record MIDI from Maschine into Live.
thanks for replying. what i’m trying to do is: 1) make a beat on Maschine using all available pads 2) link those channels in maschine to a drum rack w/ separate tracks in ableton 3) record Maschine’s midi performance in an Ableton clip via the drum rack. idk if its as easy as drag and drop but i can send you the .als and maschine project file to see if you can help me accomplish this. any input would be appreciated.
What is the purpose of the drum rack in this setup? You can just drag the MIDI data into Live and have it trigger the Maschine plugin, are you trying to trigger sounds in the drum rack itself?
Is there a way to use reason 7 regroove mixer with maschine drums dragged dropped audio
If it can open wav files you should be able to do it.
Will there be an 2.0 upgrade for us 1.82 users?
You have to purchase the upgrade from NI it’s 99 bucks.
Hi Saint Joe , thanks for the example and the video!! its an amazing Christmas present !! but there is only one thing I still don’t undersand, as is the reason that got me stuck from the beginning… with this setup , how to record the midi notes from maschine pads to live ?, because the midi notes are recorded playing Push, but when I play Maschine pads , it only send sounds to machine track, so the only thing I can do is to send sound to another audio track to record it as sound, but it would be… Read more »
Maschine 2.0 messed up the routing for recording pads into live while in Maschine mode because now it causes a MIDI loop. So there really isn’t a good way to do it. I mean you could set it up and then set the track not to monitor the input but it comes back on when you’re done recording and just makes a nasty noise. Until they update the software to make it more simple to do this again I wouldn’t advise it. You could always record midi notes from the Maschine controller in MIDI mode to another MIDI track.
This is absolutely brilliant. I found this very helpful, been looking around for a good solution for integrating ableton live and machine for a while now, and this is the best solution I’ve seen so far. Thank you very much 🙂
Cool, glad to help!
Hola – just getting up to speed on maschine. This tutorial is sort of the missing link I’ve been looking for and couldn’t find elsewhere on the internet. The post asking about using maschine as a controller whilst being able to use it as a sound source is exactly what I’m after. It actually seems like it would be a very common need. My setup – I’m primarily centered on logic audio to build my compositions which are almost always beats plus chopped up audio and vocals. Maschine , having some of the best sounds I’ve heard in a long… Read more »
Yeah you can do both but you need to have maschine in controller mode in order to send midi notes into most daws.
Thanks S.Joe for the tutorial. I’m racking (no pun intended) my brain trying to figure this out. i’ve looked all over the internet for advice on how to do this but STILL no go! i’ve got everything set up with Maschine triggering my drum rack but neither one of them are recording the midi data. any input? please help
Maschine will not trigger MIDI in this setup, the MIDI is setup to come from within Live (via the drum rack) so you’d have to record a clip on the drum rack track to capture MIDI. If you want to record MIDI from Maschine itself you’d have to set it up like this: https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-7-recording-midi-kits-ableton-live-10/
