Once you start working with Maschine you are going to come to a point where you want to save your kit you’ve been working on so that you can use it in other projects.
The process in Maschine 2.0 is pretty much the same as in older versions of Maschine, and this video is mainly for those new to Maschine and wanting to know how to get your kits saved and make them show up in your browser for quick access.
This tutorial shows the various ways to save a kit as well as how to go in and tag them for quick reference.

Can you drop a whole folder of samples and it moves anything more than 16 to a next group? Im looking for a fast way to make kits instead of going through 16 sounds at a time, I was wondering if something like this was possible?
It will not automatically spill over, you can only drag 16 at a time unfortunately.
Can we get some type of file for us users that will inform us they will can’t add more then 16 sounds to a drum kit. Like this should be in the faq section with a video to fully equip us users with this education eliminating the need to keep asking you the same question SJ
Not sure how beneficial something like that would be, since there are only 16 pads so that seems pretty straight forward that you can only load up 16 pads. I’ve actually never had anyone ask about loading more than 16 sounds to a group, since the sound slots/pads are limited to 16 most will assume that’s the case.
However, if you want to build a kit with more than 16 sounds you can do so on a single pad using the map section https://maschinetutorials.com/how-to-build-a-drum-kit-on-a-single-pad/
Appreciate the info, I just thought you would get sick us people asking the same question…
No problem man I don’t get tired of the questions, I don’t mind helping 🙂
Still having issues with importing kits…
i go to user | files and map thru to my folder, select it, hit import, i tag (say drums, kicks and snares) then hit okay, and nothing…
i’m sure it’s some idiot step im missing, but all the videos for user libraries do the same thing…
What type of files are they? They don’t show up at all in your user menu under samples? (not kits)
hey SJ in my tag panel i have a message that says ‘read only item’ and i don’t seem to be able to create new tags, any idea why?
thanks
You should be able to create tags just not banks, make sure you have admin permissions on the folder that your Maschine library is installed into also.
saint joe, so when exactly do you use save with samples? because as i understand it, that should be all the time because when you drag different samples in from different locations don’t you need to save with samples then? only time i can see you wouldn’t is if you dragged all samples from one expansion etc right?
I always save with samples of it is my own content or a new kit
cool thanks! you could always get em back either way tho right just by relocating tho i assume? just like in live?
You could, but it’s a pain, I rather just save my kit with samples to it’s own folder lol.
true true!!
What if a person purchase a kit but it didn’t have tags. (in this case lets say organic drums) I notice you had organic drums at a discount rate but I wasn’t a member then, however organic drums has some drum packs or maschine kits. Those maschine kits are not tagged, how would I go about tagging the whole unit?? ( Their are 22 kits to be exact and I don’t want to separate them with tags like you did flux kit: what I mean by this is when you click on the flux kit you has boom bap, flux… Read more »
Ok I saved a group (kit) and I cannot find my sounds what happened?
How did you save it? If you used your own samples did you do a “save with samples”? Did you move the samples?
Ok I found but I cannot locate file under subs please advise
What file under subs? Not sure what you mean.
When I go to groups and user type in name of group it does not appear
You shouldn’t have to type the name, it should just show up under user groups unless you have a whole bunch.
Not showing. When I click the user there is nothing at all am I missing something?
Did you not save it to your default user location? If you saved it somewhere other than the default user location it will not show up you’ll have to browse to it and import it manually.
are the drum patterns/loops royalty free that come with maschine?
Yeah I believe so.
Thank you SaintJoe. Was just messing with trying to move a sound from one pad to another. before 2.0 I’d just drag-and-drop the sound inside a group from, say, pad 6 to pad 3 and they’d switch places. For some reason now in 2.0 it’s not allowing me to do that. How to move sounds within a group to different pad assignments? Thanks and greetings from the Bronx, DJ Greggy Jazz
Yeah, it doesn’t work exactly the same, they changed it unfortunately. You have to drag below/above the pad you want to move it to, but then it just shifts the sounds so it’s hard to really “arrange” the kits after they are made in terms of swapping sounds.
I’m having a problem it’s not working, although it did work at first? what should I do SJ
What’s not working?
the saving kits feature
What did you change on your system? If it was previously working then something had to change. There is no setting in maschine that will stop you from being able to save kits.
my samples location, that’s all….
That will not stop you from being able to save a kit, what happens when you try to save a new kit?
it doesn’t go into all groups section, it remains the same… I have even reinstalled, I need some serious help please…
Did you change the location that you’re saving your kits to? If you do a search on your computer do you see the kits anywhere?
no, I see the kits in my documents but not in maschine groups area…
Cold be a corruption in your database, if you find that db file and delete it or remove it from the location see if you can save the kits with a new db file.
I have a green and white maschine log file in my cpu user area, could that be issue?
I don’t know what that would be, you could delete them and see what happens. But I would say the database file may be the issue.
how do I locate the db file windows 8 pc
C: Users > *User Name* > AppData > Local > Native Instruments > Maschine
I think this may be the issue, I don’t have any appdata, I believe the log file has something to do with this…
It’s a hidden folder, if you don’t have your OS setup to show hidden folders you will not see it. If you think it’s the log files you can delete them and see what happens.
Thanks SJ I appreciate this much
No problem
Hi,
when you want to change sound on a specific pad and hit browse on the controller, is there really no way of starting from anywhere near the location of the current sample? Would have made sense at least to be within reach of the current instrument-group. no?
Now I must go through everything starting from the damn accordion each time…very stupid, or maybe just me?
You can double tap on the pad and it should take you there, if not, press “locate” or the magnifying glass icon in the browser screen ( which controller you use will determine which one of these you see) it should take you there.
Thanks, man—
So it was me, after all 😉
No problem man, it’s probably not as clear as it could be 🙂
This video was very useful although i’m having trouble with one thing, i’m making my own kit which is a mixture of the machine library and 3rd party library, i can scroll down the non machine files and they will play automatically, so i chose a kick from the darkmorph sounds which i liked, then i wanted to chose a snare from one of the machine files and it doesn’t play automatically as i scroll, i have to double click to hear it which then atomically puts it on the pad, how do i get around this sj? thanks
It should play if it’s a sample, but if it’s a drum synth sound it won’t preview in the browser.
i see, ok thanks, i have saved it and in the file directory i see it is saved in groups, but i cant find the kit within machine, i think my library is a bot of a mess, i have machine 1.8 still installed on my mac, perhaps i should delete that?
I’m missing something, i’ll watch it again, i saved it twice, the first time it saved as .grp and the second time it saved in the group folder but it saved as a project, i can load it as a project but not as a group, also when i go into the browser there is only the two items i saved in the group folder, shouldn’t all the machine groups be there?
If you saved it in maschine 2, it should show up under your user location under groups if it’s a kit. You don’t have to delete anything since they are separate programs.
You mean a group folder in your user location right? You should only see the groups you saved, you’ll only see maschine groups when in the NI tab.
yep thats what happened, i have a screen grab of that but can’t upload here, it is saved in, maschine2>groups>my dark kit. yet when i search for it using that name its not there 🙁
Hmmm, it should definitely show up in your user location, is your user location setup properly in Maschine, if you check in preferences is it pointing to that same location? You can do a rescan of you user location to see if it shows up.
ok i seem to have 2 libraries, i right clicked on one of the stock kits and revealed in finder where they were stored.they are under macintoshhd>users>shared?maschine 2 library>groups>kits so i reserved my kit in there and it is now showing in the browser, so should i really just go with this and delete the other place where i thought i was putting the kit, which seemed to be in a different location all together.
I do not suggest saving anything in the factory/stock location, if there are any changes to that location during an update you will lose all of your content. You should have a user folder that everything that you create/save goes into.
ok i understand what you are saying but it seems to be the only way i can get it to show up in the machine browser, same goes for my projects, i can’t locate them from the hardware, i can only locate them from the computer.
Then there’s definitely something wrong. Did you try putting them in your user folder and rescaning just your user folder in Maschine’s preferences?
ok i think i’m going to start again, my projects are saved in a separate folder on my desktop which is named “tunes” so what you are saying is that when i save a project i should save it in a specific folder so that the machine hardware can pull up the project? when i try to open a project from the hardware the only projects i can open up are the projects that come with machine.
There is a default user location in maschine, if you look in your preferences under libraries you can see where it is. You can also add your own, so that anything you save into that folder will be accessible in Maschine also.
ok this is great, i have now made a new folder and labelled it “my projects where i can now access though the hardware user tab, so with the kit should it come under user also? should i make another folder maybe labelled my kits then direct the path to it like the description you have said above?
Yeah, if you save your kits into it’s own folder they should work also.
but only accessible through the user tab right? not through the N.I tab? the only files that should go in their is the N.I content?
Correct
I want to know how to do this if I was layering sounds, like a piano with mixed with a Synth, how would I do that?
Depends on how you are layering them. You could save the individual pad/sound or the whole kit.
I’m layering them like the link below minus ominsphere: but I notice in previous vids you save save with samples, but you didn’t say that in this video… I’m asking for this information because I do have a new pc and I want it to install these stacks inside the new pc without having to load the whole 3 Party VST’s….
Save with samples is mainly for when saving kits or when creating instruments from your own samples.
You would still have to load the vsts in order for it to work, Maschine will not take the samples out of the vst it only points to the vst sounds you used.
I recently switch my samples to another drive and I notice that some of user kits are missing some files…
Is it always good to create a group when your trying to create your own custom sounds???
If you’re saving a kit and you want to move things around, I always suggest using “save group with samples” so you can just move the kit with the samples. Otherwise you’re gonna have issues when you move them from their original location.
How would I go about taking the samples from studio 1/2 and putting them inside of maschine
You’d just browse to whatever folder they are in and open them in Maschine.
Drum samples only
I wish it was that easy but studio one samples are in the sound sets folder and they don’t give me and option to just take the samples
Oh yeah, forgot about that, you can still do it by dragging them to a new folder. I can do a quick video if you want.
yeah appreciate man, I know I was doing it the long way
How did you do it?
by recording each sample one by one
I’ll make a vid and show you a super quick way fam!
Where did you place the vid
Didn’t do it yet, once it’s up it will go on the front page like all the rest of the vids.
FYI that’s the first video I’m recording today. So it will be up later this morning.
Okay appreciate man
No doubt, it’s up now.
