Yo what’s good fam, here’s another tutorial to help you dig deeper into the effects and routing options within Maschine.
I know I keep going over it, but I really want you to understand the power in here, there’s so many different ways you can route the fx I just want you to become comfortable with them.
As with anything, exploring and experimenting are the best ways to learn so route things in multiple different configurations just to see how it will impact your sound.
Remember a reverb followed by a delay and filter will sound different than a reverb fed directly into a delay then aux routed into a filter 🙂
Point is, just play around with the routing and get used to how the signal flows, your options become pretty much limitless.

nice tutorial ! it cleared some parts i didn’t know , all inserts , effects and the way to put em were a bit random for me before , u can spend hours messing with this to get an unique sound .
Yes indeed fam, this is why I keep going over it, and repeating the same stuff, I want the fam to really get a good understanding. It’s really flexible in the way you can route things.
Yo SJ, Thanks! This video gave me some ideas on how I can do things a little different & Improve my workflow…
Good news fam, that’s what I like to hear!
Great video, you’re a great help. I am about to experiment on using a group and putting gtr rig 5 preset effects on 16 sounds in that group, and play different pattern and send them to the different presets. Hope it works. I might as well ask about the aux mode Pre Mix 1 and 2, I googled it didn’t get a hit. What are the reasons for them?
Glad to help fam, have fun with this! The pre mix options means it will hit the aux fx before it hits the main “mixer” level and pan. So if you want to send it to the fx first and then adjust your level/pan after the fx you click those buttons 🙂
I sent this to Native Instruments, do you think it is a possibility “I am missing the presets on the solid mix series. It would be nice if I could use the solid series and vintage compressor without out guitar rig. I would love if maschine could timestrech. for instance, i made a sequence where I sampled my guitar into machine through guitar rig, later I wanted to speed to whole project up, but the guitar guitar lag behind, it was to hard to recapture the essence of the first take. Time consuming. Im just thinking out loud. I use… Read more »
Cool man, yeah a lot of folks want timestretch 🙂
As for the presets, they should be showing up, but you still need to have guitar rig available in your plugin list so they can load. Check the NI service center to make sure you have the guitar rig and other preset updates.
I’ll watch this tutelage when I get home later. I think I’ve got a handle on routing now (thanks SJ!) – but I know that there are SO many different ways to approach it.
At first I thought that the routing in Maschine was a little ‘basic’ – but it really is flexible, and it is crazy the stuff you can do with a little imagination.
the thing about NI I continue to realize, is that they have a way of making things very simple that are really complex. They have a way of letting you stay on the surface or going deep if you wish, I dig that lol.
oh Prefader sends, nice I could pan my reverb out of the center of the mix to keep some mono integrity. NI soo nice bless up
indeed man, very flexible 🙂
‘tutelage’ – lol.
Auto-correct – get at me!
I understood the meaning LOL
No doubt Sj, that was excellent. I mainly use inserts but aux and routing fx’s adds a hold new character – I dig that.
Now, if you making the illest fx’s chain how do you save it? and then recall it?
Right now you can only save them in the group, so if you have stuff routed within the group you just save that as a multi fx. I’ve asked for the ability to save insert chains as well 🙂
yeah, that would be dope to save’em as inserts in that fashion!
Dope vid…its so many things you can do with maschine
Yeah man, it’s deep!
Deep and cool! Good one man! Easy to understand as well 🙂
Good news man, glad to help!
cool video Sj , your break down of the routing is excellent ,although just in my opinion for whatever reason or maybe it’s just me the visual aspect of the inputs and sends seems as if it’s set up all over the place & easy to loose track of whats routed to what , with out jumping back and forth tab to tab to see whats going on with your fx .I use pt so I caught on to it . Maybe because NI wanted to keep everything direct on one page they had to skimp for a more blander… Read more »
Yeah the routing/mixer is there in funciton just not visually. They would benefit well from a “traditional” mixer, we’ve told them this on more than one occasion. I would expect it to come at some point but you never know. It’s a different way of doing things but once you understand it you see how flexible it is
Wow felt like I was in class on that one. Great explanations and everythang. Learned a lot about routing with maschine. Think this stuff is starting to stick a little for a slow learner like myself. Thanks Bro!!!
Good news fam! Just trying to help ya understand it 🙂
without u guys machine wudda been way harder 4me, thanks to u I’m banging out beats like its Nothing. nearly 1 year as a user and my whole beat making experience is UP!! S/O to saint joe and knock
That’s dope fam! Glad to help
Nice Tute Joe – very thorough.
At about the 9:00 mark you show the difference between sending a single sound to an effect via Aux 1 and Aux 2 vs. sending it using the ‘Main’ switch.
I didn’t quite understand what the difference is here…could you elaborate on how it is different?
When using the main output, everything goes to the effect, when using aux, you get to mix in how much of the effect you want on the sound using the aux knob
Just another couple of quick questions:
On each of the ‘Main’ and ‘Aux 1 + 2’ Outputs, the first three options on the drop down menu are:
• None
• Master
• Group
What are the practical implications of each setting? (obviously None means ‘None’ – but even if I have the Main Output set to none, if I have an Aux out sent to an effect return, then it is audible)
I’d just like to know when I would ever choose one of these settings over the others?
None means no direct output, you could still bring in the aux, which would be like sending it directly to the effect
Group means you set the main output on the group level, instead of the sound level, so you could send the whole group to a specific output
Master means the sound goes directly to the master output even if the rest of the group is sent somewhere else
Props Joe, another goldmine video – i totally understand why you are pushing these vids and repeating certain things. The power of maschine is so misunderstood by tons of people! I for one amongst many didnt know how to do half the stuff i see on vid tutorials like this. Maschine really is a beast and with the renaissance hype i think people are jumping on the wagon too quickly without even realising what maschine is actually capable of beyond the surface. Keep the vids rolling Joe learning something new everytime and enjoying it man! PROPS
yeah fam, I just want folks to be able to really harness the power that NI put in this monster…it’s really deep, sure there are things it can’t do, but so many that it can…I want everyone at MT to be an expert!
Right, I’ve got it now.
So you could theoretically have an insert on a Group at the Group level, but set the Out on certain individual pads to ‘Master’ – and these pads would bypass the effect at the Group level, while everything else in the group passes through the effect.
Very flexible, indeed.
Yessssssssssssssssss
Just to be stupid, to test ‘extreme’ routing I did this: • placed 4 x insert effects on one sound • placed 4 x insert effects on that group • set ‘Main Output’ to Group • placed 4 x insert effects on two pads in my FX group • Send my Aux Outs 1 and 2 to those FX Pads • Put 4x FX on my master (obviously all done with the volume, very, very low!) So, if my Maths is right – that sound has passed through 20 instances of effects! :O (sounded like rubbish, obviously – but just proves… Read more »
hahahahahahahahahahahaha!
And I guess I could have taken it EVEN FURTHER, if I’d routed the Aux Outs of my FX pads to more FX pads…and then repeat, repeat!
So, really it is virtually limitless.
hahahahaha yesss, you got it bro!!!!
Insanity.
For real though, that is now the MEANEST tambourine you are ever likely to hear!
NICE!!! LOL
excelent and so easy to understand…thanks…always i make wrong this fx connections….thanks again!!
always trying to help 🙂
Love it. Cheer brudda
Glad to help!
Dear Saint Joe ,
I m bit lazy today and I can t seem to find how to use the maschine FX in your daw .. is there a vid about this subject
thanks
check this out https://maschinetutorials.com/using-maschine-as-an-fx-plugin-in-logic/
Great vid! Man Maschine is a beast with all these routing options , amazing, been experimenting last days with this ,no plug ins used Maschine only, i have a question tho, how do i do a tape stop or filter on all groups , master iff you will? I havent tryed it anymore cause i thought i heard you saying in the tape stop video with the grain strech, (turning the pitch to get a tape stop) that that wasnt possible on the master. Is that correct? Can you explain me or give a link for the vid so i… Read more »
Yeah you can do it on the master just for everything through the effect and send the defect out to the master
Okay then imma gonna get that poppin tomorrow, i need a scene where all groups stop and scenes where i can do a filter on all of them. Acting like a DJ on Maschine only 😉 perfect
Yep have fun!
No doubt 😀
