A lot of times folks ask me how to quantize only a specific sound in a pattern, sometimes you want to quantize only the kick, or only the hat, or whatever, but still want to play all the sounds in at the same time.
In this tutorial I show how to select the notes of an individual sound quickly from the hardware.
I personally use this feature all the time.
I don’t use it for specifically quantizing, but I do select specific sounds for things like copying, deleting, etc.

Thanks for the tip, found this out a min ago it was helpful in workflow!
no doubt fam, thanks for checking!
SJ, how do you delete a whole pattern all at once?
just regular shift+clear (pad 9)
Thanks for the tip bro
Good tip!
What about selecting only certain events of the same sound and quantize them?
Let me explain: let’s say i want to quantize kick#1 and kick#6 and leave the other kicks (in the same sound kick) unquantized.
I always want to quantize the first kick of every bar, leaving the other kicks untouched. I can do that via soft but is there a way of doing it via hard?
Thanks SJ!
well choosing just the specific events is done by changing the start and end knobs like I was doing in the video. So you have 8 kicks in the pattern, when you select the events for that pad it will have 1 for the start and 8 for the end. Now you can make the start and end both be 1 so you can quantize the first kick, then you can change the start to 6 and end to 6 to quantize just the 6 kick, etc. So you just adjust the start/end of the event numbers which will change… Read more »
Good stuff SJ
Thanks yo, glad to help.
Thanks saintjoe. but soma lost me lol.
It’s all good man! Just a bit more detailed is all, same process.
Thanks Joe Im glad that feature was put in to Maschine finally. You cover it great..Question tho, I like to nudge by 1ms, 10ms, 100ms. etc Can this be done in Maschine and do you have any vids on that topic?
Producer Stylzkeyz
select notes this way, and then do a shift+nudge (pad 7 or pad 8) or you can go into step mode, hit the note you want to nudge and turn the swing knob. I will do a video on it as well, don’t have one yet.
Thanks for the response!! I really think that along with buying Maschine; the 10 bucks I invest with you guys is the best investment Ive made this year lol. Real Talk!! Anyways with the shift nudge turn the swing knob thang…Is that accurate at 1ms, 10ms, and 100ms? Or is it use my ear and turn the knob till it feels right? Im good with either jus curious.. Thanks again SJ
Producer Stylzkeyz
no doubut fam I think it’s more of a ear/eye thing because you will see it move on the screen too lol. I think it could be a bit more fine tuned personally, but try it out and see 🙂
Great tip SJ! I think if Ni added delete on the ninth button when you hit select to delete the whole pattern that would speed up the workflow. Kinda like the MPC”s undo all button!
shift+delete removes the whole pattern,
I’ve asked for a simpler way to delete just the data for a single sound, like maybe erase+select+(whatever pad you want to clear) that way we don’t have to do the select, events, shift, clear lol.
trust me, we’ve definitely let them know about this!
No doubt, you definitely feeling me on that one lol. Yeah cause sometimes in the heat of the moment you may want to try different patterns and trash quickly. Maybe erase and one of the function buttons up top. Peace!
Yeah like I said, if it’s the whole pattern, then you can do that quickly just hit shift+pad 9
but if it’s just the kick, or the snare, etc, you gotta do it individually, I actually got a video for it that I did with this one, will upload tonight lol
My bad, I meant the individual sound! Just a quick delete on a sound. What time homie? hahahahaha I live on this site. Peace!
lol, no doubt, yeah I got a video for it fam, after I get home and get it uploaded man lol, later tonight, before midnight!
No doubt.
Thanks Saintjoe! I think i’ll keep doing it with the mouse and Q but i’ll give the hardware a try.
Yeah man it’s cool there are many ways to do it depending on how you like to work. That’s what I love about Maschine.
Damn brah, I cant log onto this site without learnin somethin new! This is somethin’ I asked about specifically and now there is a video tutorial on it! Thanks fam!
we listen fam! May take us a lil bit of time to get to it but we got ya man, we try our best to get everything you ask, unless of course it involves some software we don’t have yet lol.
Glad it helped you bro!
great tip,great site :-($)
i meant a 🙂 lol
