So you have a bunch of kits you made in previous versions of Maschine, or third-party libraries you’ve purchased and you don’t see them in your Maschine 2 browser?
This tutorial shows you exactly how to import them properly, as well as multiple methods of doing so and which way is the most consistent.
I also detail how you have to import individual samples and files as it has changed a little bit as well.
As usual, if you have questions just ask!
Ok so after a million years of trial and error no matter what I do I cant get it to import my expansions from native instruments (platinum bounce, transistor punch, drop squad, true school)
It has imported other third party expansions but not these ones.
You don’t import those you need to download the uupdates from service center for them
Did you end up figuring it out ? I’m currently experiencing the same issue with a maschine expansion
What issue are you having?
so i purchased the platinum and conant gardens kits. i installed and registered both. At first neither would load into the maschine library and i tried adding them thru the user window that didn’t work either. finally the platinum loaded in(not sure how). but the conant gardens kit has yet to load in. have thought about giving tech support a call but haven’t had the chance because of holidays.
Hey saint joe have you had problems importing some third party libraries. Ive installed some and everything is installed paths sounds everything but for some reason the play range of samples isnt selected. really weird.
Ive got alot of libraies and am installing 1 by 1 a pay but it looks like the upgrade and pain is worth it. especially being able to import 3rd party kontakt libraries into browser big.
How well they import depends on how well they are tagged originally
yeah they were tagged great. i tag everything. Plus some libraries had an alaises. For some reason mashine is messing up import where samples are there just none of sample selected . a one second sample start and end are set to 0 so no sound.
wow, that’s crazy, definitely sounds like a bug. Any sample/sounds in particular like kicks, or maybe 24 bit vs 16 bit etc?
Joe, im messing up my user banks lol, i have main folders with samples (new , not 1.8 pre tagged) that i want in my user librari. But no mather how i do it, the main name of the folder doesnt show up in “all samples” , i tryed different methods that all failed for me lol so perhaps a short dedacated vid for this subject, “import and tag new samples” would be great, also showing how to delete tagged samples if you want…. (Cuse i need to get rid of this mess i made hahahaha) All i want is… Read more »
Btw if you can tell me how to properly delete the banks i made its good to, than i can experiment further and figure it out but at this point i rather not try anymore untill i know the right way to delete them cause i dont like to make more of a mess lolz
Just remove the folder from the preferences tab and it will take them out 🙂
Cool! I’ll give that a try when i wake up. I assume that i can retag them than?
Is there a easy explanation how i should tag the subfolders so they all start as 1 same bank that i name after the mainfolder?
I forgot how i always did this lol , sorry 😉
well they changed a lot with the import in 2.0, which sucks…but in general, your top level folder will become what you see at the top level in the browser
Hmm wel that didnt work with me and i also did one without tagging that had subfolders (like i did Massive etc) and the bank was named correct, the way i wanted it but al the subfolders became one looooong list of samples lol.
Confusing me.
Agreed that this import change sucks a bit yeah haha
Perhaps i shoold play save and tag them in 1.8.2 and than import as x1 lol but i rather get the hang of how to do this proper in 2.0 😉 So if you know how, quick tut would be great lol
Decided to tag them in 1.8 lol. All good now , only the ones that i already tagged in 2.0 now are double shown with the new tag and the old tag lol so i need to remove the tags but after that its a nice and clean browser again 🙂
I think a lot of people will do that LOL
Oh cool – thats actually a lot easier than I was expecting. I’ve actually been putting off importing my own samples until I had a lot of time to work through any issues or re-tagging.
I’ve heard a lot of people saying that the browser is the biggest problem with 2.0 – what is the main beef people have with it SJ?
it’s really not as flexible as it was, you can no longer create/edit your own banks, or import individual files. Everything has to be in a folder, etc.
Grrrr….. I don’t like the sound of that.
I still haven’t gotten around to doing it!
LOL, yeah I know
is there a way to import something thats not machine expansion, like say for instance a flatline kit , where i can see the name of the folder and be able to browse to all the sounds and what not in there
You can import the whole folder and the samples will show in your user directory, it will copy the folder structure, or you can import individual folders from the kit and tag them yourself, like tag kicks with flatline, kick, the snares, etc.
p.s is there a way to chance the octave of the midi chord i recorded from the machine hardware. like fl studio i would select what i want or just simply change the whole midi octave by just pressing ctrl and down arrow.
If you highlight the data you can use octave up/down, if you’re on the studio you select the data then use the note button and turn the jogwheel.
Yo, you gotta forgive me if i don’t sift thru all the comments for someone with my same issue that has had it resolved…
One of many questions to follow later… for starters, which program am i updating when Maschine 2.0 tells me i’m trying to load a patch saved with a newer version? am i updating (say Kontakt? which i thought displays new updates whenever you open Service Center) or am i updating Maschine software? which is not updated?
It would be Kontakt, or whatever patch you’re loading for, massive, reaktor, whatever one it loads in.
okay, i’m all over the place here… but check it..
does the file name (say, lenght due to multiple sub foldering) have any impact?
i try to import maschine 1.x format and it tells me a “entry with the same location already exists in the Library. Please choose a new location”
then when i try to load some kits i just downloaded, say Drum Broker Grit Kit and Gems from the Crates, among others, they are in a desktop folder for my downloads, i haven’t moved them yet, and tried to load from there… they loaded…
WTHeck?
If it says “already exists” it means you imported it before, maybe check in the user library in preferences and delete the old folder. Import 1.x is only for actual kits in Maschine format made with versions before 2.0, you don’t need to use that when importing wave files only.
OKAY, I FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS THE FOLDER, be it that the sub foldering made the file name too long, or something, but i swapped a couple kits to an (as of yet) unused external HD, and one of them loaded up perfectly… odd, maybe not… but i can finally get back on my merry way to learning this Maschine… just couldn’t get past this point without it bothering me none stop… whew!!
now, what’s next?
nice fam!
Hey Joe,just downloaded the Sean Divine and trying to load it threw the import format 1Xformat.. doesnt work,i cant see it in my browser only in the files, the same for west coast wave,i dont see it in the kits…how can i load and see all those in my library browser?
Thanks
If they do not have maschine kits in it then it will not show up under kits in the browser, it will only import into the samples tab. I don’t think either one of those are maschine formate if I remember correctly. So you can just add them through preferences and do a rescan, it will place the sample files in the user tab under samples.
Thnaks man!
No problem at all
I ended up having to re-download my expansions because my import was bugging out on me. One strange thing though, when I select Group and NI on the maschine studio, I only see one of my expansions, then if I click “User” I see the rest of them. Shouldn’t they all be under the NI tab? Since they’re all NI expansions?
Did you accidentally add them in the user library section manually? They should definitely all be under the NI tab.
saintjoe thanks for getting back! I did add them to the user library (when I first got the maschine studio). So what I did was removed it from the users library then rescanned the factory library. The factory library is still scanning so hopefully it will show up once the scan is complete. I only removed one from my user library for now just so i can see if that works. Does that sound about right? Also, I wanted to ask you a quick question about tagging. I created some custom kits (and didn’t tag them) and loaded them into… Read more »
Yeah if you have tags on them before you import the tags should show up when you import them.
It looks like the expansion pack isn’t showing up in my Factory Library after rescanning.
Sorry to hijack your comments. So it looks like all you need to do is remove them from the users library shut down, and restart 2.0. It will re-scan your library upon opening and everything will be under NI.
Yeah it should be scanned automatically, they only showed up in user because they got added manually.
what’s up saintjoe, looks like i’m still having problems importing. let me ask you this, if I wanted to just re-import my kits (i don’t have that many) from scratch, how would I go about doing that? It was a relatively easy process in 1.8 but in 2.0 i’m having issues. Thanks a ton for all your help.
You can go into preferences under user libraries and remove all the folders from there.
I’ve been removing, re-importing and re-scanning my library but my kits continue to show only in the sounds menu. Maybe I just didn’t tag my kits right in 1.8? By tagging, I just select the bank, type, etc. from the selection menu right? Is there something else I needed to do? Thanks again.
If you’ve actually saved them as a kit file, you have to do the “import 1.x” to get the groups to show up. If you just tagged the samples then they will only show up under samples.
In 1.8 when I saved a kit, I just did the “save with samples” option, and it saved it as a .mgrp file along with a folder with all of my samples. Is that what you’re talking about?
Yep, you should be able to import that using the “import 1.x” format. It will be in your user location, under the maschine bank, then it should have the rest of your tags.
and then once i’ve saved, i checked the boxes in the appropriate “bank, type, subtype” selections
I notice the stim pack being tagged with a subfolder but not the asr 10 kit wasn’t tagged, can you explain why?( can you also explain how one would tag a sample vst such as kits like organic drums?
Flux created the Stim Pack specifically to have Maschine tags and data, the asr10 kit was just some kits I made from the samples of that library so I tagged it how I wish. To tag your own kits you can just save the group and then in the browser under you user section you highlight it, click edit at the bottom of the browser, and save your tag.

Thanks, I determine to gain the knowledge about this piece of gear….
I’m not trolling, I just though this question would be suitable for here and maschine 2.0 creating and saving your own custom kit? If this breaking the rules I apologize in advance… What if a person purchase a kit but it didn’t have tags. (in this case lets say organic drums) I notice you had organic drums at a discount rate but I wasn’t a member then, however organic drums has some drum packs or maschine kits. Those maschine kits are not tagged, how would I go about tagging the whole unit?? ( Their are 22 kits to be exact… Read more »
You can import the kits into your user area, then, highlight them all in the browser, click “edit” and give it a tag. You can also remove tags that way, as long as you click apply it will change the tags.
I believe at the 349 time frame you go into this but you stop, Can you show a video on this..
This video shows how to tag kits you’ve save in your user location
https://maschinetutorials.com/maschine-2-0-creating-and-saving-your-own-custom-kits/
i moved my sounds and kits to another HD, everything is loaded and reimported, but only my homemade groups are linked to their samples, all the 3rd party groups are requiring me to individually link them or locate the sample location which is obviously in the same folder as the group file. Can i batch save or map multiple group files to their samples at once? or do i have to go the one by one route?
Depends on what type of third party kits, you may have to just add alias info in preferences for them.
I recently did this as well, for some stupid reason the cpu goes into dumb mode tony… I just reinstall them unto my sample hard drive and it’s working like brand new… We shouldn’t have to go through this dumb stuff so something tells me this is some type of NI issues, however it works, then again i had these samples on my c drive and on my desktop and on my sample hard drive so maybe it was me being messy and not being in order causing the system to act dumb…
Sounds weird to get CPU issues based on where your samples are located though.
Joe! I believe I have gain a great understadning of how this works now… I have the organic which unfortunately I didn’t purchase from here aw, I’m aware you tags those so that would have been sweet however looking at the demo on this vids gives me some understadning… I believe what your saying is in the stim pack kit flux created those three tagged catagories boom bap, flux ft and melodic kit? To sum up The drum kits will go in the group area of mashine and the loose samples sucj as kicks, claps, snares etc would go inside of the… Read more »
Totally correct, it depends on the company and how they tag things as to what tags you see. Some make kits but do not tag them at all so not all kits are made to actually show up in the browser. But yes, kits will be under groups and individual samples will be under the sample section.
This is why I get the information from you on here and soundsandgear SJ you the man!
Always glad to help!
What s up StJ. Im trying to properly get the samples from the free downloads, But I am having an issue when trying to import into library. It opens up at the bottom to check a lot boxes. Do I check all of them and also. I have the different kits but I have them zipped in a folder on the desktop. What steps do I need to take to get these sounds to groove?
If you want them to have specific tags you would check the boxes you want to use. Make sure you unzip them and place them where you want to keep them first before you import them.
