There are a few ways to find the tempo/bpm of a sample in Maschine. I just want to show a few common ways.
- Tap Tempo
- Using the metronome to find the tempo
- Using the sample edit/slice screen
- Using a BPM analyzer software http://www.mixmeister.com/bpmanalyzer/bpmanalyzer.asp
Let me know what ya think, or let me know your favorite way to find the tempo of a sample
great vid, will help a lot of people
thanks, I get many questions on it, I know simple stuff like this can greatly improve a person’s workflow.
So what is time stretch? Does mashine do it and exactly how is it useful?
Timestretch let’s you change the tempo of your samples without changing the pitch. Maschine does not do it currently.
I usually use the tap tempo as well when looking for the bpm on my samples. It will be real cool if NI could come up with a bpm finder within Maschine…..man…. that’ll be sweet.
You talk about workflow improvement…OOoooooweeee!!!
Yeah I’ve been using tap tempo since the mpc days, but the lil bpm analyzer is cool, especially since it quickly finds the bpm of your whole recordings folder if you want 😉
But tap tempo is so quick for me and I usually get it where I need.
Oh my request! Thanks SJ!
You and a couple others 😉
One question, does the bpm analyzer support mp3s?
Didn’t try it on mp3, was mainly using for something sampled into Maschine which would be wave after you sample it anyway. I would imagine it can do mp3 too though, check and see 🙂
I believe that it does, as i use it to find my BPM for my mp3’s for serato
there it is then :), thanks fam!
Bam! Thanks guys.!
Good info saintjoe
Joe plz delete first comment by me plz .. 🙁
Ahahahahaha lol, I’ll be sabit son! lol
Dope vid Fam !
Thanks bro!
Tap tempo works for me but that analyzer is a cool tool also. Thanks SJ U Da Man
No doubt fam, all about choices.
I’m a tap tempo man myself, but I know many who are not.
Tap Tempo all the way for me – I find it to be the quickest and most accurate, and maybe a bit of tweaking from there if I’m off a little bit.
Or a lot if I wasn’t really feeling the sample I was listening to at the time lol.
I hear you bruh lol
Yes !!!!
Glad you liked it bro!
I used Traktor before this Vid …….. Nice SJ 😉
Dope man! Glad to help.
Traktor for whole songs, for short already snipped pieces I will use either Apple Loop Utility, Wave Editor’s guess tempo function, or tap tempo. The bpm calculator in Maschine is great until you pitch up or down, then not so much (that’s when online calculators come in handy), and there’s also Audio Finder, which I like a lot (it could crash less tho), which will guess, and can also crop to sample perfect lengths to get a certain tempo once you’ve got a rough chop, if you want. Anyone who has a Mac should grab the free Virtual DJ Home… Read more »
Good tips fam, I’m a tap tempo man myself. But always good to hear other tools and utilities.
I load my samples into Traktor which has a decent bpm counter.
Yeah it is, you know me, I always try to show free options when I can 🙂
On my PC I used WaveLab which knows the tempo of samples and allows you to time stretch, however, with Maschine you don’t really have to know the tempo because you can slice your sample and it will go with any tempo 😉
Yep, this is true, but not everyone likes to use slicing as a time stretch tool (even though this was it’s original purpose) plus some things don’t autoslice well, just depends on the sample. Also not everyone is using the straight loop, since you may just want to chop a few pieces out, it helps folks to know the original tempo.
Personally I just use tap tempo for everything myself, been doing it for years so I can usually find the tempo I want pretty quick.
iPhone has a free app called BPM, you can do tap tempo on there then dial it in on maschine. That’s how I do it while working in my DAW
Nice one fam, thanks!
i just tap that ish out homie!! lol
Yeah me too brotha LOL
Dude just wanna say good lookin out cuz if not for u I wood have returned this bitch. I got a general type of question. I have a dedicated drive which I run my pro tools on. Do you suggest I use that same drive to run maschine? And since I initially loaded it on to my Mac laptop which folders inside the native instruments would I move to my hard drive? Everything seems to be fine running as is but I have yet to complete a whole song or even start to mess with the effects yet….
That’s whasup fam. I would suggest leaving the install where it is, but you can just save your projects to the external drive. Or if you want you can move just the Maschine library to the external, however, since it’s running fine, if you don’t need the space, I’d just leave it where it is and make your default user folder be on the external or anytime you do a save on a project, save it to a Maschine project folder on your external drive.
I use FL so I can time stretch my sample first, then I put it in maschine
Yes indeed, also remember you can open FL as a plugin in Maschine too 🙂
Thanks for the tip Saintjoe.
you know it bro!
One way I find BPM on a loop if it is 1 bar or 2 bars is use the loop mode in ADSR and make sure that the end points are right. Then sequence a single note that is held down for 8 bars. If the BPM is even a little off it will show up after 8 bars of looping. Then push/pull the tempo until it stays in sync.
Yep, you could also have it in oneshot mode and adjust the tempo until it loops properly
is this vid down? i just see writing.
Yeah this one was, got it fixed, thanks for finding it!
