Hey what’s good fam!
Got a question in the forum about how to automate your fx so it’s only turned on for specific patterns and off in the others.
The questions was pertaining to fx that do not have an on/off switch or an amount knob to automate.
In this video I show how you can set it up using a filter as an example.

That is a fantastic (and necessary) trick. Thanks!
Glad to help man!
cool thanks saint joe, appreciate the video! but what about an fx like driver that i can’t seem to automate it where it plays the sample normally like how you adjusted the automaton parameters? yah know?
On Driver I would probably start with distortion all the way off, then add it as needed, and “turn it off” at the end of the pattern. It’s going to take some experimentation with different fx but the concept is similar.
tried this but even with distortion off it still has an effect on it but like u said, probably just fine tuning working around it etc will be the best bet…
is this something that is def weaker than per say ableton live for automating effects or is it just because maybe i’m used to automating the on/off in ableton more?
automation in a daw is definitely more flexible, but also it’s just a limitation of the fx itself, you could also do it as a send, where you put the fx in it’s own group and then you could automate the send amount sent to the fx
I may do a video on that as well just to show the difference
ok cool yeah cuz i just replaced it with a flanger for kicks and giggles, and on that it had a mix output so there it was real simple to modulate if i’m on the right path… thanks boss!
No doubt man!
yeah this is a definite workflow bonus for me. Been messing with automation a lot
Cool man.
Being fairly new to Machine, this is a great way of turning off the automation betwen patterns.
Nice idea Saintjoe!
Glad to help man!
Great tip!
I’m noticing a momentary blip at the end of the pattern when the effect snaps back to default. Is there an easy way to move it right up against the end of the pattern?
Also: is there an elegant way to implement this using only the hardware?
So grateful for all you share. Big ups!
Not super easy to do from the hardware but you could do step automation and try it that way, I find it easier to just draw it in.
Hey guys. The videos are not loading, specifically this one. I do have a paid membership account. it sucks because it is important topic
Please try it again, it should be showing properly now. Player code needed refreshed due to backend updates. If you come across any other video that isn’t working for you feel free to let us know. Thanks!
