Hey what’s good fam, back with another quick tip for you to add to your Maschine toolbox.
In this tutorial I go over the new features in 1.8 that allow more detailed control over the length, position, velocity, and pitch of individual events in the Maschine sequencer.
If you like total control over your groove and the events within your patterns, this is definitely something you want to checkout

nice! i had no idea we could do this!
Yeah, not on the Mikro but on the big maschine, it’s really nice man.
though we can’t do this on the Mikro (what I have) within the software whenever I have to shorten a note from say, a 16th note to attempt a 32nd note, it won’t allow me…is that a grid setting? or am I missing something? thanks man!
Yeah lower your grid setting
This is a great feature, very usefull for me! thanks for the heads up Joe 😀
No doubt man, have fun with it 🙂
I will 😛
thats gonna help out alot. especially with pitching and trying to get that snare role.
Indeed man! Definitely provides more options
Nice one Sj I been doing this with the mouse all this time, knew there was a way to do this on the hardware just to lazy to RTFM!! lol.
Hahahahaha lol well its new in 1.8 lil
This is a cool improvment in 1.8.
However, if you have a lot of notes in a sequence, its gets a little abstract trying to workout which note is, for example ‘Event 16’… :/
For something like that, you really need to look at the screen.
I’ve only messed with this feature a little bit – do you think overall it is faster than simply making the edits using your mouse?
Faster, not really, but again, it’s one of those things. Some prefer to do as much as possible from the hardware 🙂
Me, I just reach out and grab the note to move it or edit it, but I do like being able to change the pitch of a specific event, which isn’t as simple to do from the software.
You know what would be awesome?
A little basic graphic representation of your midi sequence on the Maschine hardware – complete with moving playhead!
That would make editing longer sequences from the hardware a sinch!
yup, I agree, that way it would highlight which event you were on and you could actually see it 🙂
dope joe …thanks bro
No doubt fam, let me know if you have any other questions
Yeah thats nice thanks for the video SaintJoe. Ques? every since i loaded 1.8 update my maschine does weird stuff like.Backlight LCD screen goes dark or second screen not showing everything properly. What could be the problem SaintJoe?
that sounds like it could be a hardware issue, I would try a different usb port and if it still happens I would contact NI
This video makes me thrilled I upgraded from the Mikro to the “big” Maschine. One question, though. Is there an easy workflow to select MORE than one event at a time (but not all of them)? In other words, say I want to grab every other high-hat and change the velocity of them (as an example) …
you can select them all, or half, etc, but selecting every other one is not instantly possible, you can hit the pad to select them all, or use the start/end to select multiple, but you can’t select every other one, etc.
Gotcha. So you can select events that are continuous with one another, but not ones spaced apart?
right
thank for the info glad to know that can be done
no problem fam, glad to help
Dope tips bruh. Didn’t know this was possible.
Question tho and I might of missed it from other tutorials. Can you set a fixed note length in machine?
not really a fixed length, only fixed velocity. You can quantize so the notes quantize to your grid but that’s not really the same I suppose
So much what I was looking for 🙂
Great! Glad to help.
Hi! This is all great, but i think there’s a “bug” of some sort. I’m experiencing it – and i also see it on your video.
After you finish editing an event of a certain sound, you go to a new sound and want to edit event on it. But – the last event on the previous sound is still highlighted, so that any change you apply to the new sound\event – also affects the last previous event you were editing. This is highly annoying. Or perhaps i’m overlooking something…?
You should be able to deselect the previous sound event.
how?
When you hold select, you pick which pad you want to work with, so if you hold select and hit the previous pad it will no longer be in focus and you can select the next pad/sound. If it’s not working for you it’s definitely a bug that should be filed with NI.
Gotcha! Thanks!
no problem!
ok
I can’t see the video
Give it a try now.
Ok ti works now. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome!
