Another question I get a lot when it comes to using Maschine in a DAW is how to get more outputs. Of course, that means simply loading more instances of the Maschine plugin.
However, one thing that causes some confusion is how to actually control the different instances from your Maschine controller.
In this tutorial I show how to quickly change the focus of which instance your controller is tied too, it’s pretty straight forward but definitely allows more flexibility when using multiple instances of Maschine in your DAW.

Word that was very helpful!
Cool, glad to help!
Yes Yes Yes . Dope Post fam!
Glad you dig it fam!
i got a simple question lol,
i’m missing a video on how to load Maschine as a vst in Ableton, in every video in the series its already loaded as a plug in in Ableton so you cant see how you do that?
Can you make a short one perhaps , i know its easy, but i have messed things up before lol
what you mean like how to drag it into ableton or where to set the preferences?
Yes, basicly what folder i have to assign in Ableton preferences to get Maschine inthere as a plug in.
I would think just the maschine folder lol but im not sure so im not trying 😉
It would be whatever your plugin folder is, where you store all your plugins 🙂
Huh, So if i add my maschine vst folder where i stash all my maschine vst’s , in ableton, maschine becomes a vst in ableton? Correct? 🙂
just copy the maschine.dll file into that folder and add that folder as your plugin folder in Maschine
Uhm where can i find that Maschine.dll file? I cant find it :$ sorry for all the questions bro thanks
do a search on your pc, I don’t know where you installed it 🙂
Try your vstplugings folder in your programs folder, or check the NI folder and look for a folder that says vst plugins
Omg yes its in the vst folder LOL imma better go start wearing my glasses again smh thankszzzz 😀
Hahahahahahaha lol!
This is very Helpful
glad to help!
I’m sure this has been mentioned in a video at some point, but I can’t seem to find it for the life of me, what if I used this workflow inside of logic, but wanted to pitch up an instrument in a kit like a snare or a sub or something? I tried using the piano role on a sub inside of a drum kit and when I drag and dropped the midi to logic it played the root note and nothing else.
Thanks in advanced!
Where you dragging the MIDI or the Audio information?
The drag and drop audio button from a kit in maschine, into logic.
Hmmm it should definitely work, I can have Knock look into dragging pitched up or pitched down instruments in Logic. Are you doing like a role or just changing it to a different pitch? Also, do you have the pad soloed when you drag it out?
That’d be tight! I just double checked, and yea like I’d do a snare role for instance say starting on C4 and work down to C3 and it pitches down fine in maschine’s instance in logic, but if I drag that scene’s midi into logic it just plays the root note. I have sounds to midi set up in maschine and proper inputs and everything to.. And no I’ll drag out the whole kit when I do it.
OH! You’re dragging MIDI, in that case, don’t use “sounds to midi notes” you just want to right click on the pad itself and use “sound midi settings” and give that specific pad a midi channel, that way it can use all the notes of a midi channel for that sound instead of just the one note when using “sounds to midi notes” 🙂
Oh my god hahah! Thanks so much, so then say I have one drum kit loaded in an instance of maschine in logic, and I route a snare to it’s own midi channel. Will I have to open another instance of maschine in logic just for the snare?
Nope, you would just have a single midi track for the snare and make sure that it’s sending back to Maschine on the proper Midi channel 🙂
Awesome! And on the group kit I leave the sound midi batch setup to sounds to midi notes? Sorry for all the questions!!
Yep! No worries man we are here to answer those questions. You use sounds to midi notes when you only need each pad to respond to it’s own midi note, when you are using instruments or keyboard mode, you change a specific pad to “sound midi settings and give it it’s own midi channel 🙂
haha now I really feel bad.. So I’m in Knock’s logic and maschine template… And I have one kit loaded in an instance. I just changed the snare pitches and left everything else in the kit the same, and kept output in the kit routed to group and the groups sound midi batch setup is at default. I right clicked on the snare pad and sent it to channel two, and when I drag the kit midi I got no output for anything in logic.. Soo lost!
you have to make sure you’re sending the midi back to maschine on the right track
Thanks for everything Joe!
no problem man!
Is there a limit on how many instances can be used within ableton or any other daw?
Is it based on the power of the computer?
It’s based on the computer and how much power it has
Is it possible to automate tweaks within Maschine VST within Ableton?
I would love to be able to play drum kits and pad mode in maschine. Can this (and step sequence) be recorded into Ableton from Maschine hardware in maschine mode not ableton template?
Maschine pad playing can be recorded into ableton for sure, checkout the series I did on ableton there’s quite a few videos showing how to integrate the two.
I will watch them ASAP.
I would love to perform live using Maschine and automate everything into Ableton.
I need to solo and mute tracks at the same time. Using one instance of Maschine vst maybe the best option (groups and sounds having own channel in Ableton)
Yeah, there are lots of ways to use them together
Wow thats a great idea SaintJoe,
I am thinking of using this idea for Evolve, got some ideas for some creepy ambient stuff, hope to get done for Halloween,ha,ha
I am buzzing with ideas, shame I have to go to work (as well all do),ha,ha.I been playing all day otherwise
Nice man 🙂
