As I said before, there is so many automation and modulation things you can do directly in Maschine. Another one of those that may be good for transitions and build ups is creating your own pauses, slow downs, or tape stops. Like other fx and modulation in Maschine, it makes sense once you see it.
My goal is to help you stay creative and fully understand the routing and automation in maschine so you can do whatever you need. We will be creating this “tape stop” effect using Maschine’s own internal fx again.
As always, experiment with other settings and see what you can do…the more you experiment the more you become comfortable and the more you will create your own tricks and styles

word fam, yeah it’s cool and I love those drums, use em often actually LOL
Nice Video Doc. I love new techniques and options to the workflow. These video’s really reinforce the inside the box techniques I’m trying to perfect right now.
Good news fam! I’m gonna keep digging up gems, if you have something you want to know how to do in the box let me know, I’ll try my best to figure out a way…if it’s possible, I’ll get it done!
Joe im glad you are showing all the good and helpful things in Maschine. With all the grumbling on time stretch, min and sec scale, linear control, etc. you show what maschine is truely for. Groove Production. It is the greatest TOOL in music production I have. If I need to do something else, I use something else. Yes it would be great to do other things but it is what it is. Great vids JOE for President.
Word man, just really trying to dig in and help everyone be creative. Sure there’s stuff I want, I’m probably the biggest “feature requesting, workflow improving, this is what it needs” dude around lol. But truth be told, I rarely ever leave Maschine these days, just because it’s so workflow friendly for me, but ultimately, just so much FUN. So all these little things man, I’m trying to show, anything I can think of or any questions people have on what they want to do. Also just want every MT member to be an expert on Maschine and what it… Read more »
yesss thanks sj another great video.
tell knock to do his sample challenges come on knock lol
No doubt fam, enjoy. Yeah, he going through the list, will be some more coming soon 🙂
Good stuff buddy.
Word, hope you can use it fam!
Man thats slick.I have to ty that one nice thanks SaintJoe.
Word man! Try it out
That beats hypnotic man! this is something i’ve been wondering about since listening to boonie mayfields album, this effect is all over that album! how do you get rid of the automation lines so easily with the mouse?
Thanks fam. When you have paint turned on, just “right click” and it erases them. so I hold down the right mouse button and “paint” over them to erase.
sweet got it, hold ctrl while doing it for the mac users!
My bad I forgot mac usually don’t have right click LOL hahahaha, yeah ctrl+click on the mac sir 🙂
Just for note if you use a Microsoft compatible mouse OS X will recognize the right click.
Yeah I thought I heard that before
OH!!! i dig that HELL outta this tutorial. i was thinkin i had to go out and find a VST for this. you’re a genius man. btw…i dig that beat. OMNI is pretty dope!
Cool man, have fun wit it! Yeah Omni is sick!
@big syborg you can set your mac to right click by having 2 fingers on the pad when u click. thats how I do it.
man that sound is hypnotic lol.
Nice! Does that work on the magic pad thing as well as the laptop tracpad?
Havent got a trackpad, only have the mouse… Good to know for the fam though!
Indeed it is!
thanks for this! nice tip!!
Not a problem fam!
awesome video, how do you automate maschine’s effects in ableton, or do the automations export along with the audio?
you would assign the parameters you want to automate to the 8 macros at the group levels and you can automate those in Ableton or just export the audio
This was brilliant SJ… Massively enjoying these tools and techniques for using maschine to its fullest . Spend alot of time traveling to see my lady in Sweden which unfortunately takes me away from maschine, these vids and tutorials are relationship preservers, cause I can watch them anywhere and feel I’m still spending the time learning . Haha !
Cheers
Cool man, that’s the idea we definitely want you to be able to learn wherever you have an internet connection 🙂
Glad you dig it man!
I love that kick,
Fade out, beat delay, reverb etc… All is interesting to be creative in a track.
For now, as I see, we can apply only 3 FX per group of sounds (1 man in + 2 aux)
As we have 16 tracks into our FX group, how can we apply 16 different FX on a single group ?
remember you can apply fx at group and sound level. Each sound has room for 3 fx plus 2 aux routings, each group has room for 4 fx plus 2 aux routings
yo this is ill my dude…ive learned hella on this site..thx for all your hard work
Dope fam, glad you are getting the help you need homie, that’s what we here for 🙂
Thanks Joe don’t know how I missed this gem…. I was knocking my head trying to find a vst for macs that did just this. :-()
it’s all good man 🙂
Hey Saint, how did you drag the pitch down like that?
( drag and pull)
just dragged the ring around the knob to automate it if that’s what you mean, the little orange line on the outside of the knob.
When you clicked the automation once and then dragged in the direction of the picth that you wanted. It kinda filled in the lines as you pulled down. Hope that clears it up a little.
Oh ok, make sure you click the little square in the bottom left corner that says “paint” then you can paint in your notes.
Dope! illmind Blap Kit 2 coming should be out in a week or 2.
Thanks Joe I really needed the tape stop effect in maschine. Time to get creative.
No doubt fam, if he do another kit I’ll pick it up, use it quite a bit, nice drums.
Wow, this tutorial has been a breakthrough for me. Now i know how my favorite producer does stuff like this, always thought it was hard.
First day in, and learned this much already.
Thanks alot Saint!
Good stuff man, welcome to the fam!
There’s plenty more to go around and if you don’t see something you need help with just ask!
i like the paint option but like doing automation from the controller and doing auto write
Yep, it works either way 🙂
Yo I bought a subscribtion and still can’t see the video?
You didn’t complete the registration process after paying, check your email for the link.
This one was dope man….and the beat is pretty dope.
No doubt fam, glad to help!
How can I do this in maschine 2 ?
Still works the same way, using automation.
One of the reasons i rejoined was to get updates on 2.4.6.. & also to get this Tape Stop thing thoroughly understood with the 2.4.6 version of Maschine. the video you have here looks like the old version 1.8 (before 2 & 2.4).. in 1.8 the menus & tabs are displayed differently then Maschine 2.0 & upward. In the new 2.4 the tabs (1, 2,3, & 4) that use to be right next to “Master, Group & Sound” are not displayed, so how do you find that stuff in the new 2.4.6 version.?? where is “Add Modulator”.. How do you… Read more »
The effects are exactly the same, so you would automate it the same way no matter which version you are using, it is not version specific. Is there something specific you are stuck on?
it may seem the same for someone who is already well versed & familiar with how to do it. but I’ve never used the Tape Stop feature before, so other then checking YouTube vids (that are also dated 4 years ago), & your vid posted here I’ve haven’t gone through the process of actually doing it. & when I go to set up the Tape Stop in Maschine 2.4.6, the layout is different, so I’m not able to find where things are located.. i.e. the dropdowns used to assign things to Group & Sound, those tabs (that use to lay… Read more »
Ahh ok, definitely sheds a bit more light on it. For routing sounds, make sure you are on the “output” tab. And for the plugins you need to be on the “plugin” section. Here’s a quick overview of that area https://maschinetutorials.com/understanding-the-maschine-2-0-channel-and-macro-section/ The “add modulator” is only shown when you have the automation lane open at the bottom. Here’s an overview of that section: https://maschinetutorials.com/understanding-the-group-pattern-and-automation-control-section-in-maschine-2-0/ In terms of modulation, you can also automate it directly from Maschine you don’t have to do it with the mouse I was just showing that you can, if you press the auto write button any… Read more »
Thanks a Trillion.. i’ll try out what you suggested when I get back to my lab this evening.. take it easy/Peace
No problem, let us know fam!
SaintJoe In trying to create the Tape Stop FX by making a modulator to do pitch bends, I think I’m clear on part of this, but still lost on other parts. this is what i’m doing (i wish i could upload a print screen) 1 I chose a pattern, & labal it “FX” 2 Go down to the modulation icon & click the “+”, then add “Modulator”, then right-click & chose “Sound” – “input’… Chose “Audio” & select “Grain” Then I know I need to go up & assign the other “Groups” to that FX” slot that I created. How… Read more »
You have to go into the channel section as I mentioned above, make sure you watch the video to see how to route outputs for channels/sounds.Then route to whatever group/pad you have the effect loaded on
https://maschinetutorials.com/understanding-the-maschine-2-0-channel-and-macro-section/
In order to draw/paint you need to change the tool, it’s right at the bottom you don’t even have to expand anything to see it. There’s an arrow, paintbrush, and an eraser.
Bro, i’ve watched that video you’re referring me to, a few times. i kind’a get the routing (but not sure if the sound go out to the FX In.. or visa versa). & i think what i’m supposed to do is put the Grain Stretch FX below the “Master, Group & Sound” section.. then go below & add a Modulator for Grain Stretch & i think also one for Pitch.. But i’m NOT doing something right.. because its not working. i admit, i’m the lefthanded student thats not getting it (Lol). thats why i paid to be a member on… Read more »
All good fam lol, no worries. Let me see if I can break it down. 1. Load grain stretch on a pad, at the sound level, not the group or master. Lable that pad “grain stretch” 2. Go to whatever you want to have paused/stopped, groups or individual pads, and on the output tab for those, route the output tab of that to the “grain stretch” input. Make sure you’re looking at the channel output tab to do this. (you can also do it in the mixer) 3. Go back to the grain stretch pad, and that’s the one you… Read more »
Muchas gracias. i’ll go back in the cave & try this again. .. when i’ve gone to paint in the pitch shifting it down from 100%.. i’ve seen that its different from 1.8.. is that correct or am i mistaken. the Visual is different… but its doing the same thing correct.?
The only difference I can think of would be if you have the grid larger or smaller where the lines may look closer together or farther apart.
