With plugin support, one of the common questions I get is how to access Battery 3 inside of Maschine
Mainly because Battery 3 kits can have so many samples in them
In this tutorial I show how to access all those sounds using keyboard mode and the octave functions, as well as how to setup a custom map for Battery to use whenever you want to build you own kits with it.
Battery 3 is a very powerful drum/percussion sampler, so it makes sense to explore ways of using this directly inside of maschine

Why’s ya plugins list going off screen.. Huh?
No seriously though, good video.
Cuz battery is at the top lol, I don’t like showing the whole screen if I don’t have too, waste of space imo 🙂
I’ll post a picture for you lol
when u put in keyboard mode u can still play all the sounds from the kit on ur keyboard right?
Yessir. You can always play the sounds from your keyboard, keyboard mode only refers to what the pads on the Maschine controller do.
This is a really good one Joe – at least for me.
I think I’m going to jump into Battery with all those drum sounds…yeah that could be something special.
My next weapon of choice is Battery!! I love these types of vids.
Battery is a beast, you will soon find many things you wish Maschine had after messing with Battery. I’ve been asking them for a while, to allow us to drag from Maschine’s browser into plugins like Battery, would be so dope lol. I mean I can have battery loaded in Maschine, and drag samples to it from my desktop or windows explorer but not the Maschine browser! Sorry lol…I get a lil excited. But yes, Battery is a beast, the stuff you can do to your drums in there is insane. Glad you like the vid man, I try to… Read more »
Yeah no doubt, this was good one man. Sparking ideas with vids like this homie. AWESOME!!!
Y’know I love Battery, but hate it’s integration with Maschine…..
UNTIL NOW! Thanks for this; and with Studio One I can then take the midi, explode to pitch and voila! I can effect each sound again, as if it were the individual sounds of a group…. Thanks for a great tip… I hope NI keep developing Battery; it seems to be getting sidelined at the moment, what with Maschine, Studio Drummer, and the other Kontakt drums available… I wish they’d just brings its features to Maschine along with it’s wicked multi sampled kits.
No doubt man, they need to merge em better, but they not neglecting Battery at all, it’s still a monster and I’m looking forward to the next version 🙂
It does so much that Maschine can’t. If they just let us drag from maschine browser into it, I would be very happy 🙂
Man when i get back home i am going to try this HELL YEA lol only thing i dont like about battery is that the time strech is not as good a Kontact 5 IMO but other that BATTERY ALLLLLLLLLLLL DAY lol
Yeah man, gotta remember kontakt 5 just got time machine pro, and battery shares a lot with kontakt, so hopefully we’ll see that move over 🙂
yeah hopefully maschine will be getting time stretch pro lol
Yeah I know right? lol…we can only hope lol
Great video, started messing with Battery last week so this is a big help.
That’s whasup fam! Glad to help!
Dope Video, I will be using this one.
Good news brotha!
That Octave jumping is dope! I’ve been using Battery for most of my practice work. This is a BIG help.
Nice man! Battery is crazy, I want to see better integration between the two. I have dreams of opening up battery as a group in Maschine, so the whole group turns into an instance of battery with each pad being a cell in Battery, instead of having to load it as a sound like we do now 🙂
Good Tutorial, it took me some time to figure this out myself.. but unfortunately I’m stuck with my next problem. I realy started to like doing my drums in battery in Maschine, cause there so many options in the same environment to edit and design the samples the way I want them – but for aranging and mixing I like to route everything to Ableton.. so here’s my question: Is it possible to route my kick, snare, etc seperately from battery via Maschine into ableton or do I have to open a new instance of battery in Ableton and set… Read more »
Unfortunately we can’t currently route from plugins inside of Maschine externally. You would only be able to route the battery instance to an external output, not the individual sounds inside of there.
thx anyway..
no problem, it would be cool if we could.
What about maschine mikro? I see that the controller editor doesn’t have a dedicated template for battery … ??
Nevermind — I see you did this ON a mikro … But why is there no template for battery 3 then?
You don’t need a template when using battery inside of maschine, you just use pad mode to access the sounds, templates are if you want to control the plugin directly in another daw for instance.
Thanks much — any idea where there is no template for mikro though, and there is for maschine?
They didn’t have a factory battery 3 template for mikro, they may have made one recently or it may be included in the newest controller editor install, but I rarely ever check the factory templates, so I can’t say for sure lol
Hey Joe! Is there a way to use the step sequenzer with battery in the same way it works with other drum kids?
not really because you can’t use the step sequencer when you put the pad in keyboard mode, you would have to load the battery samples directly to the maschine pads or load an instance of battery on each pad.
damn Joe U the shis nit. should have known u had a tut for this
Lol glad to help fam
Very usefull vid once again! Maybe stupid question but whats the point of setting a blanc bank as default?
What you can do with that? (yeah i’m new with it lol)
you have a blank kit mapped out to maschine that you can put different sounds into as needed
pretty obvious actually. i’m doing the walk off shame right now lol Thanks for answering bro, apriciate it!
hahaha, all good bro!
128s yo, getting battery soon
You don’t need battery to do that, just drag your samples to the sample map inside of Maschine
A while ago i switched pads in battery, but the effects stayed on the old pad, there was a delay on one, i switched the pads the sound moved but the delay didnt move with it? Does this makes sense to you maybe? I dont ge it , am i missing something? Lol
This was all battery sounds
The effect was an insert on the pad, not the sound itself
Also, some pads are linked to eachother, so if you switch one, it is linked to the other pad? I dont get that either?
Battery works at the cell level, not just pads, so it just depends on how something was setup when they made the kit.
Okay , i’m gonna mes around some more with it it 😛 and me talking about other vst’s , men i better learn the whole K8 first lol
Cool 🙂
O yeah, thanks
Hi Sj-1 … at 1:40 you left a step step: on the standard Maschine, to access the octave buttons, being pinned in keyboard mode is not enough… you also need to hold down the PAD MODE button while changing octaves. Otherwise buttons 7 & 8 don’t do anything. I’m running 1.7 so maybe it’s a new function… Mikro appears to work different.
Yes, pinning in keyboard mode is pinning in pad mode, the only way to pin keyboard mode is to pin the pad mode button. That way you can see all your notes in keyboard mode on the controller. Mikro actually has octave lables in the screen where standard Maschine doesn’t.
Here goes a stupid question: how do I get the Battery 3 demo into maschine as a vst? The video starts and it’s allready set up, isn’t it.
check this out
https://maschinetutorials.com/managing-vst-and-au-plugins-inside-maschine/
Yes I did before but I can’t find a battery vst since I downloaded the demo. Strange
Did you run the installer? You don’t remember where you installed it?
I can’t find a vst in the downloaded stuff. There’s the program, some pdf’s and some demo midi and samples stuff. That’s all.
I’m sure it can’t be that hard to get it into action. What’s the name of the file I need to add to the plugin folder? I can’t find anything on this with google. I can’t understand why
It’s Battery 3.dll
Check in c:\programs\vstplugins or c:\programs x86\vstplugins, etc
Also check inside the native instruments program folder, see if there is a vst plugins folder in there.
It really depends on where you installed it.
I’m on a mac. I read that vst on mac is not .dll
correct, it’s not a dll on mac, not sure of the exact extension, but it should be where all of your other plugins got installed. It will install an AU and a VST version.
Got it at last! I reinstalled it. Don’t know if that did the trick.
A thing to remember if maccers ask SJ: vst’s are in the directory:
drive name: users: name: library: audio: plug-ins:vst
Sure I hope to remember it too 🙂
Now I can try to control it with the maschine controller like you show. Thx again
Cool man!
As always you are the the maschine tutorial king with the one two punch delivery! I will be trying to apply this to the new batttery 4. I use to use it a lot but stopped messing with it this plugin is like the software drum machine grandfather to maschine, I’m in agreement with the integration they should just merge batter with maschine as one since it is a drum machine plug in. So glad to see you got us covered with the official custom integration, all I had to do was come the site and got my question answered… Read more »
Glad to help fam, it works the same in B3, I may need to update 🙂
Well it looks like they’ve removed the midi learn function as it was in Battery 3 hmmmmm, that’s the thing with updates features are either gone or hidden…oh well back to the drawing board lol!
aha figured it out from browsing a forum, the midi learn is a tiny icon in the key range area on the main tab!! Really non-intuitive but oh well glad I got it!!
Yeah it’s the lil midi icon, sorry, been out all day just saw this, maybe I need to do a video for b4 too 🙂
Ha ha ain’t no maybe you know it’s the next item on the menu brother, the update is long overdue and definitely full of new editing features so I’m sure your gonna turn it inside out. What a beast it is indeed!!
hahahaha, well, as for setting it up in maschine it’s pretty similar, but I probably will
As far as I’m concerned geist or any other drum machine of this type can hang with battery!! Numero uno!
Hey Joe,
I did exactly what you did with mapping Maschines pads to Battery. But for some reason when I hit Maschines pads to see if the correspondence is there, Battery’s pads don’t stay lit up when I hit it. And the key range doesn’t change at all either when I hit the pads (C3, E3…)
I have no idea why it’s doing this.
Help me out please.
Make sure you have the pads mapped so each one is only mapped to a single pad and not a key range. Also make sure you are in keyboard mode when you do it.
Kool it works!!
Thank God for Saint Joe
Lol
Glad to help fam!
Hey Saintjoe, – hope all is well with you,
I wanted to ask if you know of a way to use the Maschine step mode with Battery 4?
Because it is an instrument and not individual sounds, you’d have to change the note for each pad you input, so by default it will be c3, but if you wanted to use another sound in batter you’d input the note and then change the pitch of that note on the step mode screen until it matches the sound you want in battery.
Thanks man,
